Tehran launches more strikes after second round of US attacks in southern Iran

The US and Iran again traded strikes in exchanges that continued into Thursday, as observers reported a "dramatic" drop in the number of ships travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US says it hit 90 military targets, some near the Strait. Iran says 14 people have been killed in the past two days.

State media also reported that targets near the Bushehr nuclear power plant were hit, citing the deputy governor of the province. The US has not commented on the latest strikes.

Iran said it targeted US assets in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar in response. Later on Thursday, Tehran launched more strikes on sites in Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq, state-linked media reported.

Residents in southern Iran have described two nights of fear this week after explosions shook coastal communities as the US launched fresh strikes on targets including the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik.

US Central Command confirmed the attacks, saying they were carried out to âfurther degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the strait of Hormuzâ.

For residents in Posht-e Shahr, Bandar Abbas, back-to-back explosions marked another night of terror as they scrambled to check on friends and family. Noor, a teacher who lives near the fishing pier, said this weekâs strikes were stronger than most in recent months.

A fitness club is being sued after an employee at one of its childcare facilities in Southern California threw a 23-month-old child in the air and failed to catch him, resulting in a traumatic brain injury, according to the complaint.

Matthew and Elena Kittle filed the lawsuit July 2 against The Bay Club, an upscale club with multiple locations, including one in El Segundo, just south of Los Angeles.

They allege that while their son, identified by the initials C.K., was at the daycare center at The Bay Club El Segundo on March 17, 2025, an employee tossed him into the air — 6 feet above the ground — but failed to catch him, the lawsuit says. C.K. fell to the ground and hit his head on the hardwood floor, and the employee fell backward and landed on top of him, the suit says.

A family is suing a fitness club in El Segundo after they said their child was seriously injured when he was tossed in the air and dropped on the floor at the gym's daycare.

The 23-month-old child was dropped by a daycare worker last March at the Bay Club, according to the lawsuit.

In the lawsuit, the father said he brought his child to the daycare and left for the Manhattan Beach Country Club. When he returned, the child was seriously injured, according to the lawsuit.

As the Spanish flu pandemic raged and soldiers returned home from World War I, a plot of land in Burke Road, Camberwell, was sold off under strict conditions.

A one-tonne southern elephant seal named Neil, whose beachside antics have attracted millions of views on social media, appears to have returned to sea.

The five-year-old has spent several weeks at his usual twice-yearly haul-out spot in southern Tasmania.

Videos of Neil crushing signs and poles and lounging on suburban streets near fences have gone viral online and attracted streams of visitors to the otherwise sleepy coastal town.

But on Thursday, Tasmaniaâs Department of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) said it appeared Neil had left the area.

Derryn Hinch, the outspoken — and at times controversial — broadcaster and former senator, has died aged 82.

The barnstorming journalist was known for his distinctive broadcast style, honed over decades in the media, as well as his law-breaking crusades to expose sex offenders that earned him several stints in jail.

His death was confirmed on-air on his former radio station, 3AW.

The ABC confirmed the former senator had died in his sleep this morning.

The radio station reported on Friday that Hinch died overnight at home.

One of Hinchâs friends, 3AW host Darren James, told the network on Friday he was âyet to processâ the death.

âHe messages me every morning â¦ I didnât get the messages this morning.â

Don't rely on AI for personal finance advice, study finds

When it comes to personal finance, artificial intelligence gives advice that can be inaccurate or demographically biased, and can range widely depending on the particular program that consumers use, according to a new academic research study.

The research â which studied seven "widely available" generative AI platforms â found "significant variation" in how GenAI answered prompts about emergency savings, asset allocation and withdrawals from a retirement portfolio.

Researchers examined free-access versions of ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Gemini, Meta AI and Perplexity.

"GenAI-driven responses may sound confident but can still be incomplete, misleading, or incorrect," according to the paper, published last month in the Journal of Financial Planning and authored by finance professors at the University of Georgia and University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy.

‘Suffocating’: Kai Allen reveals in-car oxygen scare

The Grove Racing driver revealed on the Fox Sports broadcast that his helmet air fan system malfunctioned during the immediate build-up to the Darwin finale.

He swiftly unplugged the system once he realised he was breathing carbon dioxide and went on to finish the race sixth.

However it was after the race that symptoms began to set in, Supercars medical delegate Dr Carl Le putting Allen on oxygen at the circuit.

Allen has since been undergoing further treatment in a hyperbaric chamber to prepare for the Townsville 500.

“On the Sunday [in Darwin] I had a little issue with the dry ice system,” Allen explained.

KAI Allen has revealed a health scare of his own from last month’s Darwin Triple Crown.

The Grove Racing ace reported dealing with carbon dioxide intake as part of a systems malfunctioning on the Sunday at Hidden Valley.

Driver welfare had already been a major topic from that particular day, with Brodie Kostecki (illness) and Thomas Randle (heat stress) having had to be replaced in their respective cars.

Kostecki himself had a carbon dioxide drama way back on Supercars debut, during the formation lap for the 2019 Bathurst 1000.

“I had a little issue with the dry ice system,” Allen said in a pre-recorded interview which aired this morning on the Townsville 500 broadcast.

New Zealand motorsport legend and Australian Touring Car Champion Robbie Francevic has died aged 84.

Francevic, born in Auckland, enjoyed a highly successful career in his homeland in a variety of categories before being encouraged to take on the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1985.

Starting his career in a range of modified Fords in his homeland in the 1960s, Francevic attempted to break into stock cars in America, before turning his hand to Formula 5000 open wheelers through the following decade.

However, it was New Zealand car owner and former racer Mark Petch who entrusted Francevic with his Volvo 240T when local touring car regulations shifted to the international Group A formula in 1985.

Cancelled musician Jayson Gillham has lost his case against the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra over comments he made about the war in Gaza in 2024.

Justice Graeme Hill handed down his verdict in the Federal Court of Australia in Melbourne today, one month after the end of the three-week unlawful discrimination trial that tested the limits of free speech in Australian workplaces.

Justice Hill rejected Gillham's contention the MSO took "adverse actions" against him because of his statements about journalists killed in Gaza.

An acclaimed British-Australian pianist has lost his workplace discrimination case against the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) over comments he made about Gaza during a performance.

Jayson Gillham sued the MSO after it cancelled one of his performances in 2024, days after he said during another show that Israel had killed more than 100 Palestinian journalists in Gaza.

But Justice Graeme Hill ruled that Mr Gillham's concert was not scrapped because of his political beliefs.

Rather, it was to "address the anticipated adverse impacts" of the pianist's comments on the orchestra's business and reputation, he ruled.

"I find that the MSO did have a policy for not expressing support for either side of the Israel-Gaza conflict," Justice Hill said.
