Announcement: I'm Co-Hosting HBO Max's Official Pitt Companion Podcast

May I have 30 CCs of ketamine, please? And can someone intubate the patient in Trauma 2? My stethoscope and I are going on a smoke break. In other words: I am expecting another podcast, and I’m delivering it at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. When The Pitt returns for its second season in January, I’ll be co-hosting the official Pitt companion podcast for HBO Max!

The first season of the HBO Max medical drama follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) hour by hour during basically the worst shift of his career. He’s managing a team of new doctors and med students on their first day on the job, he’s having trauma flashbacks to running the emergency department during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, a disgruntled patient assaults a nurse, someone saw a rat, someone else is missing some benzos — and that’s before the department is has to triage a mass casualty incident. The first season of The Pitt won Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series, plus trophies for Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa.

Powerball jackpot surges to $1.25 billion, bringing more holiday cheer

The Powerball® jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.25 billion for Wednesday night’s drawing, giving players nationwide another chance to dream big this holiday season. The jackpot has an estimated cash value of $572.1 million.

Wednesday’s jackpot is the second-largest Powerball prize this year, behind the $1.787 billion prize won on Sept. 6 in Missouri and Texas. This marks only the second time in Powerball history that the game has generated back-to-back billion-dollar jackpots.

“Powerball has only seen back-to-back to billion-dollar jackpots twice, and this one has arrived just in time for the holidays,” said Matt Strawn, Iowa Lottery CEO and Powerball Product Group Chair. “While it’s exciting to see the jackpot climb to this level, please remember to play responsibly. A single $2 ticket gives you a chance to win, while also supporting good causes in your community.”

That was the game's sixth largest prize ever, according to Powerball. The largest prize ever was $2.04 billion won on Nov. 7, 2022.

The Powerball jackpot was last hit on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize. There have been 43 consecutive drawings with no jackpot wins.

25 Unforgettable Places to Go in 2026: Mauritius

In 2026, Mauritius is positioning itself more clearly as a destination for travelers who want cultural experiences, breathtaking landscapes, and incredible wildlife — even travelers on a budget. Improved air access, a growing slate of inland experiences, and renewed attention to conservation are giving visitors more reasons to look beyond the shoreline (and more ways to travel responsibly).

Getting there is simpler than it once was. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport continues to build its role as a regional hub, with strong connections through Europe, the Middle East, and southern Africa. For US travelers, one-stop routes via Paris, London, Dubai, and Johannesburg make Mauritius more accessible than many travelers assume, and once on the island, distances are short. You can drive from the airport to the capital, Port Louis, in under an hour, and cross the island coast-to-coast in a single morning.

Alex Levy’s chip-in lifts him to -8 at AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Alex Levy showcased his skill with an impressive chip-in to move to -8 at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. After losing his card last season, Levy is making the most of his invite this week, demonstrating resilience and determination on the course.

The French golfer has been quietly building momentum throughout the tournament, and this crucial shot underlines his ability to perform under pressure. The chip-in not only improved his position on the leaderboard but also energized his performance for the remaining rounds.

Alex Levy’s journey this season has been a testament to perseverance. After losing his DP World Tour card last year, he received a special invitation to compete in Mauritius. This opportunity has allowed him to prove that he still belongs among the elite players on the DP World Tour.

Ins & Outs: Wanderers v Auckland

Head coach Alen Stajcic has named his extended squad for Friday night’s clash against Auckland.

The Western Sydney Wanderers return to CommBank Stadium on Friday night, 19 December, to face Auckland FC in a high-stakes Isuzu UTE A-League Men clash under lights at 8:00pm.

The Red & Black come off a determined 0-0 draw with Brisbane Roar, where they dominated possession and created several chances. Kosta Barbarouses and Brandon Borrello were constant threats, while Alou Kuol and Anthony Pantazopoulos went close late, but the finishing touch proved elusive.

Auckland arrive in strong form after a 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners that lifted them to the top of the table, with Sam Cosgrove and Randall on the scoresheet. Steve Corica has kept a settled side, with Lachie Brook pulling the strings in midfield and captain Hiroki Sakai returning from injury on the bench.

Kings of the road: Auckland FC bank impressive away win, end Wanderers' home streak

They continued their solid away form on Friday night, with an impressive 2-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers. Second half goals from Sam Cosgrove and Lachlan Brook proved decisive, in a match that was far from straightforward.

    The Wanderers made not
have lived up to their pre-season billing but they remain a difficult assignment and were unbeaten at home before this match. It was also a game played in tough conditions, on a hot humid night in Sydney but Auckland once again demonstrated their resilience.

They struggled to assert themselves in the first half – as the Wanderers had most of the chances – but came back strongly after the break to take the contest away from the hosts.

Rob Reiner Made a New Kind of Fairy Tale | The Princess Bride | 5 Years Ago, Rob Reiner’s Most …

Rob Reiner Made a New Kind of Fairy Tale

On Sunday, when it was reported that the filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, had been stabbed to death at their home in Los Angeles, the news seemed so senseless and baffling, so at odds with Reiner’s lovable image, that it didn’t properly compute. Who could possibly want to kill Rob Reiner, that big comedic Teddy bear, the closest thing America had to a collective dad? The subsequent revelation that the Reiners’ son Nick was allegedly responsible for their deaths is as terribly sad as it is sordid.

The news was especially jarring because Reiner’s relationship with his own famous father had always seemed so enviably affectionate. Reiner was born in 1947, in the Bronx, the oldest child of the comedian Carl Reiner and the actress and singer Estelle Reiner. (Estelle would later achieve cinematic immortality in Reiner’s classic film “When Harry Met Sally,” as the woman who deadpans, “I’ll have what she’s having,” after Meg Ryan simulates an orgasm at Katz’s Deli.) Publicly, the Reiner men made an adorable couple. A 1979 issue of People had the cover line “Famous Fathers, Loving Sons,” next to a photo of Carl pinching Rob’s cheek. Especially in Carl’s later years, they liked to pose with their arms around each other, their bald heads pressed warmly together like two big speckled eggs. During COVID quarantine, in 2020, Carl participated in a star-studded online reënactment of Rob’s movie “The Princess Bride.” In the final scene, Rob, tucked under the covers in bed, plays the role of a young grandson, and Carl plays his grandfather. “As you wish,” Carl says, with a tip of his fedora, when his large adult son, with moving plaintiveness, asks if he can come back to read to him the next day. Carl died soon after, at ninety-eight.

    The Princess Bride

Showboating is not to be encouraged in Hollywood types; the exception that proves the rule in The Princess Bride, in which screenwriter William Goldman indulges in a non-stop cavalcade of clever dialogue, scenes turned on their heads, and ingenious narrative improvisations. It’s a story about the art of storytelling, and smarty-pants thinkers from Umberto Eco to Italo Calvino would approve of the post-modern take on the classic fairy-tale offered here. A pleasure for kids, it’s also worth commending to adults looking for a break from the norm; the late Rob Reiner’s film offers a unique sense of humour that made it a word-of-mouth classic.

5 Years Ago, Rob Reiner’s Most Beloved Fantasy Turned Into an Unexpected Miniseries

Rob Reiner was a creator who had the finger on the pulse of what audiences enjoyed. He was a versatile director, not confined by any one genre in particular. His career had many hits and, more importantly, many classics that have stood the test of time. The Princess Bride remains one of his best, uniting the talent and chemistry of Cary Elwes and Robin Wright as the iconic Wesley and Princess Buttercup. The fantastical story follows lovers who are tragically separated after finding each other. When Wesley’s (Elwes) ship is attacked by pirates, Buttercup (Wright) vows never to love again. Years pass, and she agrees to marry the vile Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) only for the love of her life to return. Full of romance, revenge, and ROUS’s, the film was a crossover hit.
