2026 Mini Cooper S review: JCW Sport

The first new petrol-powered, three-door Mini in a decade isn’t all-new, but it still moves the game on for the model – and is as fun to drive as ever.

Next year will mark the 25th birthday of the modern Mini, rebooted by BMW in 2001 as a higher-priced, retro-styled city car inspired by the original 1959 design.

The classic three-door is now in its fourth generation, rebranded as Cooper – rather than ‘Mini Hatch’, with Cooper in the variant name – and available in petrol or electric forms.

While the electric Cooper is all-new from the tyres up, keeping the petrol version alive has led Mini to a heavy update of the previous model launched in 2014, with new front and rear-end styling, a redesigned interior, new features, and tweaked engines.

Machu Picchu train crash leaves one dead and dozens injured

A train driver has died and at least 40 people have been injured in a head-on rail collision near Peru's most popular tourist attraction, Machu Picchu.

Two trains collided on the single track leading to the ancient Inca town on Tuesday, according to a statement from the local government.

It said that 20 ambulances had attended the scene and that injured people had been transferred to medical facilities in the nearby city of Cusco.

The US embassy in Peru said that US citizens were injured in the crash, while the UK Foreign Office said it was "supporting a number of British nationals involved".

Five Australians safe after fatal train crash near Machu Picchu

A train driver has been killed and at least 30 passengers injured when two trains collided head-on on the rail line to Machu Picchu, Reuters reports.

The ABC understands the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of five Australians aboard the two trains, all of whom are safe.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision near the popular archaeological site, which draws more than one million visitors each year.

Two trains have collided head-on on the railway leading to Peru's Machu Picchu, killing a train driver and injuring at least 30 passengers, according to Reuters.

Police are investigating the crash, which occurred on Tuesday, local time, and involved trains operated by Inca Rail S.A. and PeruRail S.A., companies that mainly transport tourists to the popular archaeological site. A health official said about 20 people were in a relatively serious condition.

Former Test opener Matthew Hayden has called for Australian batting coach Michael Di Venuto to be held to account for failing to provide the technical guidance needed for the side’s struggling top order.

In the aftermath of Australia’s defeat to England inside two days in the fourth Test in Melbourne, Hayden said the home side’s efforts on a difficult MCG surface were “unacceptable” after they were rolled for 152 and 132 in 79.5 overs – the first time in 97 years Australia have lost 20 wickets in fewer overs in a Test.

Plea to help Australian mother Samantha Baillie, injured in Bali accident which left one dead

Friends and family have rallied to support an Australian mother suffering life-threatening injuries after an accident in Bali raising more than $50,000 in a day for her medical bills.

Samantha Baillie was on her first overseas trip when she was injured on December 27.

While details of the accident have not been disclosed, a fundraiser set up by a friend said she was in a critical condition, and another Australian she was with at the time had died.

The fundraiser was set up on behalf of the Baillie family by friend Savannah-Leigh Homer, who said both she and Samantha’s mother had flown to Bali to be by her hospital bedside.

Regional Queensland news presenter ROB BROUGH farewelled by 7 NEWS

The on-air acknowledgement aired at the end of the night’s news, where current presenter Nathan Spurling addressed viewers before a short montage of clips from Brough’s time with the network was shown.

Spurling thanked Brough for his commitment and contribution to Seven Queensland, marking the end of a lengthy tenure with the broadcaster.

“Rob’s been a familiar and trusted voice across Seven Queensland, and above all, our thoughts are with him and his family,” Spurling said.

    Breaking: Seven farewells Rob Brough

TV Blackbox reports that longtime 7News Queensland regional newsreader Rob Brough has been officially farewelled by the network.

Brough, who emerged from regional radio and appeared on the ABC and Nine in Brisbane before joining Seven, hosted Family Feud in the very late 1980s and early 1990s.

He was sacked from the game show without explanation and replaced by John Deeks. Years later, he told an interviewer: “They called me into Seven, nobody knew what was going on. Then management just said ‘we’re going to make a change’, and they didn’t tell me who was going to do it (host the show).”

    Flyers soar through Lightning

We'll keep you updated on special events, the 25/26 season, players, and basketball news.

Maddy Rocci has mixed style with substance to boost the Southside Melbourne Flyers' finals push as they downed the Adelaide Lightning 85-72.

Rocci worked the floor at the Victorian State Basketball Centre on Sunday, grabbing another double-double as she contributed 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

The point guard, who also concedes the highest average of turnovers in the league (5.42), only coughed up a season-low two.

Adelaide kept in touch with the hosts for the first 30 minutes and captain Steph Talbot looked to have provided the spark for a Lightning run when she scored from well behind the halfway line on the three-quarter time buzzer.

Opals stars help Flyers shake off Lightning

A PAIR of Australian Opals were the difference in Southside Melbourne Flyers’ 13-point win over Adelaide Lightning, kicking away to a nice 85-72 victory after a tight first three quarters. Flyers co-captains Cayla George and Maddison Rocci – who were announced in the national squad to head to Turkey earlier this month – dug deep to produce strong performances in the Round 11 WNBL win.

After Sydney Flamers’ upset win over the UC Capitals the day before, both the fifth placed Flyers and sixth placed Lightning suddenly saw the door ajar for that crucial fourth place in the WNBL Finals race so the stakes were higher than normal. The two teams were also coming in off the back of losses in Round 10 with the Flyers losing at home to the Bendigo Spirit, while the Lightning also lost to the Spirit on the road, before being thrashed by the Lynx at home on December 21.

Teen talent Manuela Puoch has given the Southside Melbourne Flyers the "spark" they needed to close within one game of the fourth and final playoff spot after an 85-72 win over the Adelaide Lightning at the Victoria State Basketball Centre.

The 19-year-old had 15 points off the bench, including 2-from-4 from the three-point line, and was the catalyst for a third-quarter run which allowed the Flyers to pull away from the visitors.

‘Grotesque’ barriers block off Primrose Hill for New Year’s Eve

Popular spot for watching fireworks cordoned off after disbanding of dedicated Royal Parks police

Primrose Hill has been blocked off by “grotesque” barriers to stop revellers entering to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The park in Camden has panoramic views of the capital and an estimated 30,000 people celebrated New Year’s Eve there in 2024.

However, this year it is shut, with the gates locked from 8pm on Tuesday until 6am on New Year’s Day, after dedicated parks police were scrapped as part of a cost-cutting measure.

Some of the park has been cordoned off with solid hoarding and temporary fencing, while other parts have temporary fencing to prevent spectators from entering.

Celebrating New Year in the cinemas

The Spring Festival holiday, now the country's most lucrative box-office season, was once considered a cinematic dead zone.

In the early 1990s, it was common for theaters to shut down during the first few days of the Chinese New Year. That convention was overturned in 1995 with the release of action giant Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx, which became a hit during the holiday, pioneering the concept of hesuidang — a term that has since expanded to encompass the entire New Year and Spring Festival period.

This piece of cinema history was recently revisited at an event hosted by the China Film Administration and organized by the China Movie Channel at the China National Film Museum. The gathering marked the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema, while promoting newly released and upcoming titles vying for the holiday audience.

What The New Zealand Incident Tells Us About Anti-Sikh Hate In 2025

If there is one through line that defines 2025 for Sikhs globally, it is that Anti-Sikh hate has become normalized, coordinated, and algorithmically amplified.

Across the West, far-right nationalist and white supremacist movements have gained renewed confidence and visibility, aided in part by social media platforms that increasingly reward outrage, racial grievance, and conspiratorial thinking. Since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, changes to content moderation and engagement algorithms have helped create an environment where hate no longer merely survives online. It thrives.

Sikhs, as a visibly distinct, economically successful, and politically engaged minority, have increasingly found themselves in the crosshairs of these movements. Turbans, beards, Gurdwaras, and public religious processions mark Sikhs as outsiders in societies where xenophobia is gaining steam. But what makes the current moment uniquely dangerous is not simply the rise of Western far-right hate. It is the way that Hindu Nationalist networks, mainly operating out of India, have actively fused themselves to these movements to target Sikhs in the diaspora.

    Anti-immigrant confrontation in New Zealand

A parade by hundreds of members of New Zealand’s Indian Sikh community was confronted in South Auckland on December 20 by an anti-immigrant group calling itself “True Patriots of NZ.” The far-right outfit is an offshoot of the fundamentalist Destiny Church, led by self-appointed “apostle” Brian Tamaki.

The group of 50 blocked the Great South Road, disrupting the parade and preventing it from moving. The “patriots” performed a Māori haka before linking arms and chanting, “One true God,” “Jesus, Jesus wants you gone!” and “God of nation.” A line of police kept the two sides apart with no arrests.

Tamaki describes the True Patriots as “Guardians of the Kiwi Way of Life. Defenders of Faith, Flag & Family.” They profess to stand against “globalism, mass immigration, and woke ideology.” In an online video, members are seen wearing t-shirts with slogans declaring, “Kiwis first” and “Keep NZ, NZ” along with a banner proclaiming, “This is New Zealand, not India.”

The real stand-ups who helped punch up Bradley Cooper’s comedy-drama ‘Is This Thing On?’

This is read by an automated voice. Please report any issues or inconsistencies here.

It was abundantly clear to actor-director Bradley Cooper that if “Is This Thing On?,” his comedy-drama set in New York’s stand-up scene, lacked authenticity, the film would fail. With the iconic Comedy Cellar at its heart, he found the key to unlocking that — by casting several of the real-life comedians who regularly take the stage there. Among them were two women at the top of their game right now with sold-out shows and substantial social media followings: Chloe Radcliffe and Jordan Jensen.

“Bradley fell in love with the Comedy Cellar and the relationships that go on there,” Jensen recalls.

‘Is This Thing On?’ Review: The art of finding therapy through comedy

Is This Thing On? follows couple Alex (Will Arnett) and Tess Novak (Laura Dern), who have both amicably agreed to end their marriage. As they try to navigate this new change in their lives, Alex finds healing through performing open mics at local stand-up comedy shows. He turns out to be quite good at making people laugh, and while using comedy as a form of therapy, Alex and Tess begin to see they’re more compatible apart than they ever were together.

When it comes to things that tend to make people unhappy, I imagine divorce is pretty high up on that list. It’s even worse when the two partners have been married for decades, and if that’s not bad enough, have young kids on top of it. At a glance, it’s not a good situation for anybody, but just like marriage isn’t all sunshine and roses, perhaps divorce isn’t all doom and gloom.

How the life of UK comic John Bishop became Bradley Cooper’s latest directing effort ‘Is This Thing On?’

Screen quizzes Cooper, writer/star Will Arnett, writer Mark Chappell and producer Kris Thykier about the film’s zigzag production journey

It was the autumn of 2022, and Bradley Cooper was on a short break between two shooting blocks of his film Maestro, and returning from Los Angeles to New York. Will Arnett – his friend for more than two decades – was flying in the same direction to meet up with his London-based writing partner Mark Chappell and continue work on their screenplay for a relationship-comedy film.

Taking the same flight together, Cooper asked Arnett what he was working on. It was then that Arnett shared the premise of Is This Thing On?, and its perhaps unlikely inspiration: how Liverpool-born pharmaceutical salesman John Bishop, feeling low during the dissolution of his marriage, had entered a Manchester bar hosting an open-mic comedy night, put his name down on the performer list to evade the entrance charge, and found himself in front of an audience improvising material about his own divorce. Bishop returned to the stage in subsequent weeks, using stand-up as personal therapy, and finally pivoting to a career in comedy. Along the way, stand-up also provided the key to mending his broken marriage.

Liam Gallagher teases 2026 Oasis activity: "Bring on 2027 I mean 2026 I mean Happy Easter"

It comes just weeks after he said the band would not be touring again until 2027 at the earliest

Liam Gallagher has stoked rumours by teasing possible Oasis activity for next year.

Earlier this month, the frontman appeared to confirm that the band would not be touring again until 2027 at the earliest, replying to inquisitive fans on X by tweeting, “We’re not doing anything in 2026 sorry”.

That was then followed up by a blunt denial that Oasis would be playing at Knebworth next year, as well as a comment that “I don’t [have] snizzle to do until 2027 I mean happy Christmas.”

After a fan joked that "Oasis 2025 will officially be over in a day", Liam replied on X: "Bring on 2027 I mean 2026 I mean happy easter (sic)"

On Wednesday (31.12.25) morning, another fan asked about the possibility of a European tour, and the Britpop legend teased: "All in good time Rkid."

Did Oasis’ Liam Gallagher just tease a 2027 tour?

Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher may have teased another tour for the band, but it may not come for a couple of years.

As 2025 comes to an end, the year in which Oasis embarked on their reunion tour concludes, and lead singer Liam Gallagher may have teased the band's next steps.

A fan on X, formerly Twitter, was getting emotional over 2025 ending. They posted a GIF of Noel Gallagher walking around with a guitar, captioning the post, “Oasis 2025 will officially be over in a day..”

However, Liam Gallagher may have given them a glimmer of hope. He responded, “Bring on 2027,” he said, before jokingly correcting himself, “I mean 2026[,] I mean Happy Easter.”
