Jane Doe said she felt ‘unsupported and disbelieved’ by Cornell president in letter sent to faculty leaders
A woman who sued Cornell University last month over an alleged gang rape at a fraternity house in 2024 said she felt âunsupported and disbelievedâ by Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff shortly after she reported her alleged sexual assault, according to a letter she wrote to two senior Cornell faculty members.
The 101-page complaint â in which the woman is identified as Jane Doe â prompted a re-opening of an investigation into her claims and a re-examination of how universities across the US handle allegations of sexual assault. It also prompted Cornell students and faculty members to call for a vote of no confidence in the administration
Jane Doe says embattled Cornell head Kotlikoff doubted her gang-rape claim
A former Cornell student who alleges she was gang-raped at a fraternity house has said she felt "unsupported and disbelieved" by the university president.
Known anonymously as Jane Doe, she has written a letter accusing President Michael Kotlikoff of asking why she waited several weeks to report the incident.
The Ivy League institution in upstate New York says her account of the Cornell head's reaction is "incorrect".
She addressed her letter to campus faculty who will hold a rare vote this month on Kotlikoff's leadership. Doe filed her lawsuit last month alleging she was raped by several men in October 2024 at a Chi Phi fraternity party.
