The NRLW will farewell two of its most influential figures with Sydney Roosters pair Millie Elliott and Corban Baxter announcing their retirements.

Elliott and Baxter confirmed on Wednesday that this NRLW season would be their last, leaving the duo on track to go out with another premiership at the Roosters.

She is 28 and hopes to play for Australia at the end-of-year World Cup, but after having a child last year the front-rower wants to prioritise a growing family.

An emotional Baxter said on Thursday she had made the call after returning from last year's ACL rupture.

‘Emotional’ scenes as superstar Roosters duo make selfless call

The Sydney Roosters have added motivation in their premiership push this season after stalwart NRLW players Corban Baxter and Millie Elliott announced they will retire from professional rugby league at the end of 2026.

Baxter captained the Roosters to their maiden NRLW premiership and will retire a highly decorated representative player, having suited up for New South Wales, the Australian Jillaroos and Māori All Stars.

Trainer pleads to move back home after lying about having a ‘leak’ and copping a three-year ban

Of all the excuses, veteran trainer John Leek jnr claimed he had pulled over in quiet street in a small country town and stepped into his trailing horse float for a leak.

But when Racing Victoria stewards opened the door to the float, he wasn’t emptying his bladder.

Instead, they caught the 72-year-old horseman attempting to stomach tube his racehorse – a drenching practise that is banned on race day under the rules of racing because it is considered performance enhancing.

That seemingly innocuous roadside stop in Terang on a crisp winter afternoon in July last year, as Leek was taking his horse The Storyteller to the Warrnambool races, has cost him his training licence for the next three years. He was disqualified by the Victorian Racing Tribunal last month.

Whole Foods recalls cheese sold in these 7 states. See affected items

Whole Foods is recalling cheeses sold in a handful of states over a potentially deadly labeling error.

According to a Sept. 11 notice from the Food and Drug Administration, the recalled cheeses contain egg lysozyme, an egg white protein, that was not disclosed on the products' labels. This could pose a risk to people with allergies or a severe sensitivity to eggs, including potentially life-threatening allergic reactions.

No illnesses have been reported in relation to the recall, which the grocery store chain initiated after its staff discovered the error. While the cheese has been removed from shelves, its best-by dates extend into October, meaning it could still be in customers' kitchens.

His letter helped Zak Butters choose the Dogs. Now he thinks they'll finish top four

The young fan whose letter helped get Zak Butters to the Bulldogs hopes his team can make the top four next season

HUNTER Zerafa said he felt "amazed and happy" when the 11-year-old was told his letter to Zak Butters had help sway the superstar midfielder's call to join the Western Bulldogs after a long time deciding his future.

AFL.com.au revealed on Tuesday that the letter, which was dropped anonymously into the letterbox of Butters' home and pleaded with him to choose the Dogs alongside an attached 20-cent piece, had struck a chord with the outgoing Port Adelaide midfielder as he weighed up choosing Geelong or the Dogs.

‘We’re onto it:’ AFL’s warning on sweetheart side deals and lopsided trades

The AFL has warned clubs it will not approve lopsided player trades and will be especially alert to sweetheart deals designed to encourage clubs to accept free agency compensation for losing a player.

With Port Adelaide free agent Zak Butters declaring on Saturday that he wants to move to the Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast’s Ben King announcing he wants to return to Victoria, without yet nominating a destination club, the AFL has warned clubs they will police the value of side deals.

To encourage clubs to let a restricted free agent leave, and not match the contract terms, which would force the two clubs into a trade for the player, the club receiving the free agent has often in the past sought to negotiate separate deals on generous terms for the club losing the free agent.

EFL Cup LIVE: Reaction as Liverpool, Arsenal, Fulham, Brentford and Peterborough win

West Ham have to score to take it to penalties. Into injury-time at London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen's pullback is met by Taty Castellanos, but his prod towards goal doesn't have enough power on it and Fulham clear it off the line.

Tottenham are pushing to get an equaliser to take this game to penalties and James Maddison and Savio are on for them, with Conor Gallagher and Mohammed Kudus making way.

And that’s why Liverpool can’t afford to let Alisson leave. Seeing Giorgi Mamardashvili on the team sheet is always a concern.

A perfect 10 out of 10 penalties and that means it is down to sudden death.

On the officiating in the match: "It's been a tough week for officials as everybody is probably aware. I think we just need to let them ref the game and be human beings and make decisions because we have gone through a period in the game where I feel like they weren't actually making decisions in both boxes because if the technology we have in the game and I feel like that is a real shame.

Reading 1-2 Brentford: Callum Wilson and Fabio Carvalho send Bees into Carabao Cup fourth round

Brentford secured their spot in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a hard-fought win at League One Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Callum Wilson and Fabio Carvalho both found the net in the first half to put Brentford into a two-goal lead, before Paudie O'Connor's second-half header ensured the visitors had to work for their victory.

It took just three minutes for the Bees to take the lead when Dango Ouattara's pass evaded the home defence and Wilson finished calmly for his second goal for the club since his summer arrival.

The hammer blow for Reading came in the 46th minute when Ouattara grabbed his second assist of the evening to set Carvalho free and he finished past Joel Pereira with ease in his first game since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in November 2025.
