Duffy seen in public for first time in 16 years as she gears up for comeback

Duffy has been seen for the first time in well over a decade after suffering a terrifying rape and kidnap ordeal. The star was spotted in a local café as she gears up for her return to music for the first time in 16 years.

Welsh singing sensation Duffy, now 41, left the world of music behind in 2010 after her harrowing experience. But now, the star has plucked up the courage and is preparing to make her musical comeback, much to the delight of fans.

The Mercy star has already teased new tracks, having shared a snap of her in a recording studio putting the finishing touches on her first release in over a decade.

Duffy makes rare public appearance as she prepares to detail kidnapping ordeal

Singer Duffy has been seen publicly for the first time after revealing she’s ready to share the story of her horrific kidnapping ordeal.

The Warwick Avenue singer, 41, stepped away from the spotlight 16 years ago after dropping two critically acclaimed albums.

To the shock of fans, Duffy revealed she was the victim of a horrific kidnapping and rape ordeal, which prompted her retreat from the industry.

Earlier this year, it was announced that her experience would be the subject of a new documentary on Hulu, and it seems the Welsh icon is now ready to re-enter the public eye.

She was spotted in Caffi Largo in Pwllheli, Wales, smiling for a photo with staff who praised her for supporting small businesses.

World Cup 2026: Alphonso Davies in Canada squad despite recent injuries

Head coach Jesse Marsch has included Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies in what he described the best 26-man squad "ever assembled" by co-hosts Canada for this summer's World Cup.

Davies, 25, was deemed sufficiently fit for inclusion despite recovering from a hamstring injury, while Juventus forward Jonathan David also makes the cut.

Porto midfielder Stephen Eustaquio, Villarreal's Tajon Buchanan and Tani Oluwaseyi, and Southampton forward Cyle Larin are all included.

"We have really our best group of 26 players that this country has ever assembled at any one time," said Marsch.

"Are all of them right now at full 100%? No, but they're close," he added, signalling frustration at the repeated questions from media about players' injuries.

Who is in and who is out? Canada men's national team roster revealed

Canada men’s national team head coach Jesse Marsch has announced his 26-player roster for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup from the team’s pre-tournament base in Charlotte, North Carolina. Canada will host the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico and will open the tournament in Toronto against Bosnia on June 12. Canada will then face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 in Switzerland.

Marsch took 32 players to the pre-tournament camp south of the border. Six players were cut today. Among defenders, Ralph Priso, Zorhan Bassong and Jamie Knight-Lebel failed to make the team. Marsch also cut midfielder Jayden Nelson and forwards Jacen Russell-Rowe and Daniel Jebbison. Jebbison might have been the biggest surprise, as Jacob Shaffelburg was included in the squad instead.

Adelaide weather forecast for Friday June 12th and the days ahead

Happy Friday! Here’s the weather for June 12th and a look at what’s to come this weekend.

Adelaide is heading into a wet and windy stretch, with rain building over the weekend and more showers set to linger well into next week. While today stays relatively mild and mostly dry in the city, conditions are expected to turn notably gloomier from Saturday, with a run of cloudy days and repeated bursts of rain likely through to Thursday.

For Friday, Adelaide can expect a partly cloudy day with a top of 24 degrees, making it the warmest day of the seven-day outlook. There’s only a slight chance of a late shower tonight, but the bigger story is the strengthening wind, with northeasterlies turning northerly through the morning and becoming quite brisk at times. It’s the kind of day that may feel pleasant enough inland, but noticeably blustery around the coast.

double quotation markEternal infamy for Yaya Sithole, whose second-half red card was probably salvation after an all-timer in defensive calamity. The unsheathing of that red, and two others, made the Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio his own history. There was a lovely moment for Raúl Jiménez, too, as he got on the scoresheet before the Mexican fans booed their team for not piling on the agony for a South African side whose performance was so dreadful it left Quinton Fortune, Aaron Mokoena and Benni McCarthy, South African TV pundits, in speechless catatonia. “What do we say, what went wrong in this game?” asked the anchorman. Answer came there none.

Hosting the enemy: America's FIFA World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino this week strenuously defended the decision to host the World Cup across three countries: The US, Canada and Mexico.

Even before kick-off time, the tournament was mired in controversy over ticket pricing, accommodation and transport arrangements, along with the decision to allow the Iranian team entry to the US despite an ongoing war.

Why the economics make this the craziest World Cup ever

Football World Cups are rarely completely politics-free but never has the beautiful game navigated a geopolitical high-wire act of this kind. The main host is at war with a participant, whose team must commute in on match days from another country.

Add to that the quite astonishing coincidence of the US, Canada and Mexico, the three co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup, being in the midst of an epic trade war. Indeed, in the period in between the opening ceremony at the Estadio Azteca, and the final in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, the three will be renegotiating the USMCA, the North American free trade area.

Kleenex puts ‘check your poo’ message on pack

The packaging carries the reminder alongside a dedicated support hub, poocheck.com.au, aimed at raising awareness of bowel cancer symptoms.

The campaign aligns with Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and comes as research conducted by Kleenex finds many Australians avoid discussing bowel habits. According to the research, 62 per cent of Australians talk about going to the toilet in the form of a joke, while 57 per cent say they are too embarrassed to use the toilet at someone else’s house. Nearly one in three (29 per cent) say they feel uncomfortable talking about going to the toilet altogether.

Despite this, 81 per cent agree that going to the toilet should not be taboo.

New push to lift bowel cancer screening

Despite the availability of a free at-home screening test, fewer than half of eligible Australians currently participate in the national program. Photo: supplied.

BOWEL cancer claims about 100 Australian lives each week, but health experts say more deaths could be prevented if more people took part in regular screening.

Despite the availability of a free at-home screening test, fewer than half of eligible Australians currently participate in the national program.

Cancer Council Australia and the federal government this week launched a new awareness campaign encouraging Australians aged 45 to 74 not to delay screening, with research showing many people continue to put off taking the test.

Rare and eccentric-looking goblin sharks have been seen alive in their deep ocean habitat for the first time ever.

Prof Alan Jamieson, director of the Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre, said goblin sharks were a bit like the colossal squid – creatures with an almost mythological quality. They were almost never seen alive, he said, and previously only when they were accidentally hooked on a fishing line.

“They’ve captured the imagination of so many people, but we’ve never really seen them alive,” he said. “We actually know virtually nothing about them.”

Scientists have captured the first live footage of a goblin shark in its natural deep-ocean habitat, extending the species' known depth and geographic range and offering a rare glimpse of one of the ocean's most elusive predators.

For most of its 125-million-year lineage, the goblin shark has remained almost entirely beyond human observation. Now, for the first time, scientists have captured live footage of the species in its natural deep-ocean habitat – sightings that have excited researchers for extending both its known depth range and its geographic footprint, significantly.

Research published in the Journal of Fish Biology, led by the Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, documents two separate live observations of Mitsukurina owstoni in the Central Pacific – one at a seamount near Jarvis Island, another on the slope of the Tonga Trench.

Taylor Swift, stars and a stunning comeback: New York pull off the impossible in NBA finals thriller

The New York Knicks made a record comeback from 29 points down and moved to the brink of their first championship since 1973 by beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 on Wednesday night (US time).

OG Anunoby tipped in the miss of Jalen Brunson’s long three-point attempt with 1.2 seconds remaining to complete the rally, giving the Knicks a 3-1 lead and three chances to win the championship.

It looked impossible early, when the Spurs rolled to a 27-point half-time lead. But Brunson helped bring the Knicks back with 36 points and Anunoby finished with 33.

No team had come from more than 24 points down in a finals game, when Boston did it against the Lakers in 2008, since the NBA began keeping detailed play-by-play for all four quarters in 1997. The Spurs led 81-52 in the third quarter.

Taylor Swift and other New York Knicks fans celebrate vital win in NBA Finals

A star-studded crowd saw the New York Knicks record the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday night, beating the San Antonio Spurs by one point in the last 1.2 seconds of the game, after trailing by 29 points.

It was game four of the feverish best-of-seven NBA Finals – the first finals the Knicks have hosted in 27 years.

The final score of 107-106 means the Knicks now enjoy a 3-1 lead and are just one win away from a famous series victory.

Famous and not-so-famous fans erupted in chants of "O-G! O-G!" for player OG Anunoby. He scored the winning points when, after inbounding the ball, he rescued a failed three-point attempt and tapped the ball into the basket.
