    NWS confirms 3 tornadoes hit Winnebago County

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The National Weather Service out of Chicago reports its survey crew confirmed three tornadoes touched down in Winnebago County on April 17.

    The NWS says it will have more information on peak wind speeds, as well as path lengths and widths soon.

    The NWS out of the Quad Cities also shared preliminary findings that a tornado that caused widespread damage in Lena was a “strong EF-2.”

    Further information is expected in the coming days as crews complete their assessments.

    Video captured a frightening look at what it was like as a violent storm tore through an Illinois town outside of Rockford.

    Dramatic footage from a live stream camera in the town of Lena, Illinois, showed a severe storm inching into the town just over 40 miles west of Rockford. Intense winds are seen whipping the region as debris from buildings flies around.

    Shortly after the storm, the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office urged people to avoid the town of Lena entirely.

    "There is no way to get into town due to trees and wires down. Emergency Services are assisting people per Sheriff Stovall," the sheriff's office wrote in an alert on social media.

    Five tornadoes touched down across Illinois during Friday's storms

    The National Weather Service confirming five tornados swept through Illinois last night as the threat of flooding continues in the Chicago area.

    ILLINOIS – Five tornadoes were confirmed in Illinois during Friday's storms by the National Weather Service.

    The National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes touched down in Winnebago County, including in Pecatonica, Ill., Harrison, Ill., and Roscoe, Ill.

    They also confirmed two other tornadoes in Gibson City and Buckley.

    Severe storms barreled through the Chicago area Friday evening, bringing damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and localized flooding.

    As of around 7 a.m. on Saturday, more than 8,300 ComEd customers in Northern Illinois and 8,600 NIPSCO customers in Northern Indiana were affected by power outages.

    Ahead of a duel, Rodger innocently asked Ciska what she would do if she won the show's whopping $200,000 prize.

    "I would take it all out of the bank, change all the notes into the colours like the $5s, $10s, the $20s, all the pretty colours, put it all in the bath and jump in naked," Ciska said without hesitation.

    World Rugby boss hails Hong Kong’s ‘global influence’ at WXV announcement

    Hong Kong will host some of the world’s best women’s teams in two-week WXV Challenger tournament in September

    Hong Kong will host another significant rugby tournament this year, with the game’s global governing body awarding the city the WXV Challenger in September.

    The two-week tournament, featuring some of the best women’s teams in the world, including Hong Kong, is expected to be held at Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground.

    Announcing the decision on Sunday on the sidelines of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, World Rugby chairman Brett Robinson called the WXV a “very, very important competition” for his organisation.

    Amstel Gold Race marks the beginning of the Ardennes Classics as it returns for its 60th anniversary this Sunday (April 19), with Mattias Skjelmose and Mischa Bredewold looking to defend their titles.

    This year, Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel have opted not to ride the race after busy Classics seasons. Pogačar was edged out by Skjelmose last year and is likely in need of a rest after a brutal second place to Wout van Aert at Paris–Roubaix last Sunday.

    As rising fuel prices push interest in electric vehicles to record levels, this EV company hopes for a silver lining.

    As electric vehicle sales rise to record levels, Polestar is hoping current uncertainties around fuel supply mark the beginning of a new era for EV uptake in Australia – and believes its brand is in a great position.

    A record 14.6 per cent of new cars sold last month were electric, up 42.3 per cent compared to the month prior. Sales of used electric vehicles also rose, reportedly doubling over the same period.

    “The questions around Australia's fuel security, and the independence that can be gained by customers driving electric, I think, is now better established than it was,” Polestar Australia managing director Scott Maynard told Drive.

    Mostert apologises over controversial Kostecki clash

    Chaz Mostert has publicly apologised to Brodie Kostecki and the Shell V-Power Racing team following the dramatic end to Race 13 in Christchurch.

    On the penultimate lap, Kostecki fired down the inside of Turn 2, and hit Mostert's Toyota. Mostert returned serve, the two cars clashing before Kostecki was sent into the infield.

    Kostecki came back across the road, and the out-of-control Shell V-Power Mustang sent the pack scattering. Notably, Will Brown narrowly missed Kostecki's stricken car.

    Mostert crossed the line fourth, but was reclassified 17th after being slapped with a 30-second penalty. Kostecki finished 18th, and lost both the championship lead and the Jason Richards Trophy to Broc Feeney.

    Mostert and Kostecki came to blows in the closing stages of the race as the latter tried to make a crucial pass that would have clinched the Jason Richards Trophy.

    He got alongside Mostert on the exit of Turn 2 before Mostert bumped the Shell Mustang off the road on the run towards Turn 3.

    That tipped Kostecki into a spin initially through the infield and then across the track at the exit of Turn 3, where he was narrowly missed by Will Brown.

    Race control wasted little time acting, Mostert swiftly hit with a 30-second penalty by driving standards advisor Craig Baird.

    Supercars champions Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki collide at high speed in fiery fight for Jason Richards Trophy

    Reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Matt Payne has registered back-to-back commanding wins to end the historic first round in Christchurch.

    After cantering to victory in the second 37-lap sprint on Saturday, Ford ace Payne continued his hot pace in Sunday’s 200km race.

    Starting on pole, the New Zealander was untroubled for the majority of the race to celebrate another win in front of home fans.

    “It was really nice to have a quick car, just being able to execute,” said Payne, whose only two wins for this season came within 24 hours.

    “That was the perfect race for us — a couple of safety cars — but we were just damn fast and it was damn enjoyable.
