The price of running a diesel car has shot up and up over the past month thanks to the war in Iran, with the latest average price for a litre of diesel now hitting 191.5p according to the RAC.
And in many forecourts, the price has already hit £2 a litre, forcing drivers feeling the squeeze to take drastic action to try to get by.

The practice of replacing fuel with cooking oil is not unique to Estonia. Some Estonians who use older cars with simpler engines have turned to using cooking oil, as oil costs about one euro per liter, while the price of diesel has exceeded two euros per liter. Karlo, who uses regular cooking oil in his 1997 Volkswagen Transporter van, said that the method is only suitable for cars with older engines, and that a little diesel must be added to the mixture anyway, because with a tank filled only with cooking oil, the car will have difficulty starting.

A waste-to-energy project across nine councils – including Casey – is teetering after a waste-transfer station (WTS) in Hampton Park was rejected by VCAT.
The WTS’s operator Veolia Recycling & Recovery had appealed to VCAT after the Environment Protection Authority Victoria refused a development licence last year.
On 10 April, VCAT member Nick Wimbush upheld the EPA refusal, largely because of the potential odour impacts on nearby residents.
The WTS was planned to collect up to 550,000 tonnes of waste a year from nine municipalities, as part of the South East Metropolitan Advanced Waste Processing consortium project.
The waste would then be compressed and bulk-delivered to a waste-to-energy (WTE) incinerator in Maryvale.

The Chevrolet Camaro muscle car is poised to return in 2028 after a four-year hiatus, a new report has claimed, with petrol power and rear-wheel drive.
However, reports claim the reborn Camaro may be a four-door sedan, not a two-door coupe – a first in the 59-year history of the nameplate.
Company insiders cited by specialist website GM Authority claim the Camaro revival is due to ride on an updated version of the most recent sixth-generation model's 'Alpha' underpinnings, and is due to enter production in late 2027.
Chevrolet could return to the sedan market, not with a Toyota Camry rival but rather a rear-wheel drive sports sedan – much like the Commodore-based SS.
Chevrolet is introducing its first rear-wheel drive sedan since the SS, a rebadged Holden VF Commodore, and it’ll help fill the void left by the defunct Camaro coupe.
GM Authority reports word from insider sources that say the new combustion-powered, rear-wheel drive Chevrolet will likely be a four-door sedan, although a two-door coupe which could revive the Camaro nameplate in future has not been ruled out.

Qantas estimates its fuel bill could reach up to $3.3 billion due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, more than $800 million above its previous estimate.
The airline says it has reduced domestic flight capacity in May and June, with most cuts on routes between major capital cities.
