MEMPHIS, Tenn. — — Cedric Coward hit two late 3-pointers and scored 21 points to help the Memphis Grizzlies hold off the Brooklyn Nets 103-98 on Sunday.

49ers race out to 7-0 lead in Philly

Quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson have the 49ers up early in Philadelphia.

Purdy connected with Robinson on the second offensive play of the game and Robinson turned a modest gain into a 61-yard pickup after the catch. Purdy went back to Robinson a few plays later and their two-yard touchdown put the 49ers up 7-0 with just over three minutes off the clock in the first quarter.

Purdy also hit running back Christian McCaffrey with an 11-yard pass on the way to the end zone.

Robinson only had 22 catches in the regular season, but the 49ers are missing Ricky Pearsall Sunday and could use more from him over the rest of the afternoon.

Niners tight end George Kittle was carted off the field in the second quarter of Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles after suffering an apparent lower right leg injury.

The Buffalo Bills rallied to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-24, on Sunday to advance to the AFC Divisional Round once again under head coach Sean McDermott and quarterback Josh Allen.

Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman is out of the NFL mix this year after announcing on Dec. 29 that he planned to "run it back" with the Irish in 2026. But that statement hasn't stopped clubs from wish-casting him to the pros.

Browns in reset mode: Here's what we know after ouster of Kevin Stefanski

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The "Get Up" crew reacts to the Browns' decision to fire coach Kevin Stefanski after six seasons. (2:27)

Less than six months ago, coach Kevin Stefanski had a strong show of support from Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam despite the organization attempting to rebound from a 3-14 campaign during the 2024 season.

"We've got to do better. I think we'll know what better looks like," Haslam said.

Ultimately, a 5-12 record in 2025 wasn't better. The Browns on Monday announced the firing of Stefanski, who guided Cleveland the past six seasons and led the franchise to two playoff appearances while also winning two NFL Coach of the Year awards (2020 and 2023). Stefanski leaves Cleveland with a 45-56 regular-season record and a 1-2 record in the postseason.

Who’s to blame for Browns’ latest firestorm? Kevin Stefanski? Andrew Berry? Think bigger — Jimmy Watkins

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Fire the coach. Fire the general manager. FIRE EVERYBODY, as fans like to say.

Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam has tried every pink slip combination. He’s axed every person within purview of a porous ownership tenure, except for the first person he blamed during his opening statement on Monday.

“… First of all, ownership takes full responsibility for where we are,” Haslam said after firing coach Kevin Stefanski. “To win eight games in two years is horrible – it’s totally unacceptable and it’s not going to continue.”

I’m not convinced, no matter who replaces Stefanski or how well general manager Andrew Berry rebounds from the Deshaun Watson trade. Haslam’s empty promises sound as familiar as Cleveland’s 5-12 record this season. And his latest rendition reminds us that you can pull, yank and rip at the Browns’ issues, but you cannot remove the root.

NFL playoff picture update: If the Eagles beat the 49ers, they will play the Bears in Chicago

Given the results of Saturday’s two NFL playoff games, we now know that the Philadelphia Eagles will be traveling to Chicago to take on the Bears in the Divisional Round.

That is, if the Eagles are first able to beat the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s Wild Card game at Lincoln Financial Field.

It looked like the Eagles might get a desirable result with the Carolina Panthers coming close to staging an upset over the Los Angeles Rams. But Matthew Stafford led the Rams on a clutch drive to escape Charlotte with a win, setting the stage for the Eagles to either 1) host the Rams or 2) play the Bears in Chicago if they get past the 49ers.

Roob's Observations: Will the Eagles finally let Jalen Hurts take off and run?

On the latest Takeoff podcast, John Clark is joined by Hall of Fame quarterback, Kurt Warner to break down the Eagles matchup with the 49ers.

Will Jalen Hurts use his legs more than during the regular season? Will Dallas Goedert have another big postseason game? Will the offensive line regain its form after a week off? Can we trust Jake Elliott to make a high-leverage kick?

So many questions and we take a stab at some answers in a wild-card weekend Roob’s Random Eagles Observations!

    1. One thing that could really help bring the offense to life as the Eagles head into the postseason is Jalen Hurts using his legs. He’s still a weapon as a runner, even though he ran less than ever this year. But it’s been a big piece of his postseason success over the years, and it’s time for the Eagles to spring him on the 49ers and the rest of their postseason opponents as long as they’re alive. In his first four playoff runs, Hurts has run 75 times for 384 yards, not including kneel downs. That’s 38 yards per game and 5.1 per carry. During the regular season this year, he was at 26 rushing yards per game (not including kneel downs) and 4.6 per carry. Hurts’s first four years he never averaged below 8.5 carries per game. This year he was at 5.6. So he’s still good at it, he just doesn’t do it as much as he used to. I don’t know if the Eagles were intentionally holding Hurts back as a runner this year to try and keep him healthy, but he is healthy and it’s time to unleash him. When Hurts gets out in the open field, he’s still dangerous and the Eagles could sure use that extra dimension as they try to revive the offense against the 49ers.

George Kittle injury update: 49ers tight end carted off in playoff game vs. Eagles

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle suffered an apparent injury in the second quarter of his team's wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The injury occurred after Kittle caught a 6-yard pass from Brock Purdy on the right sideline. The veteran tight end tried to push off on his right leg as Eagles safety Marcus Epps approached to make the tackle but it gave out.

Kittle remained down after the play and grabbed his right leg. The 49ers' medical staff came onto the field to tend to him. He was loaded onto the cart due to the injury and immediately taken back to the locker room.

49ers star George Kittle carted off, leg injury vs Eagles. How bad is it?

PHILADELPHIA − The San Francisco 49ers lost a key player on offense when tight end George Kittle was carted off the field with a lower leg injury.

Kittle had just caught a short pass to the sideline when he was tackled by Eagles safety Marcus Epps. Kittle's ankle or foot appeared to bend backwards and he went to the ground.

Kittle stayed down and was eventually carted off the field. The injury happened with 5:53 left in the second quarter, with the Eagles leading 13-7.

Kittle has long been one of the 49ers' best offensive players. He had 628 yards receiving in 11 games this season.

49ers TE George Kittle has limited practice

49ers tight end George Kittle (ankle) had a limited practice on Wednesday.

He played 40 of 42 snaps in the Week 18 loss to the Seahawks, making five catches for 29 yards, a week after missing the Week 17 game against the Bears.

The 49ers practiced without left tackle Trent Williams (hamstring) and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee/ankle). Williams has not practiced since his injury early in the Week 17 game, and Pearsall aggravated his PCL injury against the Bears.

Pearsall was limited in all three practices last week before missing the loss to the Seahawks.

Linebacker Dee Winters (ankle), defensive end Keion White (groin/hamstring) and running back Christian McCaffrey (rest) also didn’t practice.

Mailbag: UFC on Paramount+ early takeaways, plus managing expectations for Zuffa Boxing's debut

UFC fights are officially available to watch on Paramount+, so what’s the early verdict on the look and feel of the new broadcast home for Octagon action? Plus, with Zuffa Boxing’s debut just a couple weeks away, why haven’t we heard more about it?

All that and more in this week’s mailbag. To ask a question of your own, hit up @BenFowlkesMMA on X or @Ben_Fowlkes on Threads.

@fistfulofbuddha: Have you checked out the new Paramount UFC interface? What do you think about it so far?

I’ve clicked around a little bit. It seems like you can find portions of past numbered events (though not the entire cards, at least from what I’ve seen) as well as some curated collections. But if you’re expecting it to be like UFC Fight Pass, with an easily searchable library of UFC fights going back decades, forget it. Right now, there don’t seem to be that many individual fights separated out in a way that’s easy to find.

Portsmouth 1-4 Arsenal: FA Cup third round – live

A hat-trick from Gabriel Martinelli helped Arsenal come from behind to beat Portsmouth with plenty to spare

Righto, Ed Aarons’ report is with us, which means we’re finished here.

In Scotland, SPL leaders Hearts scraped a 1-0 win at Dundee, playing the whole of the second half with 10 men and requiring a brilliant injury-time save from Craig Gordon to hang on to the points. They lead Celtic and Rangers by six points.

Mousinho reckons it was a contest for 65 minutes, but the better side won. Pompey’s goal came from an aggressive press and his team worked it well after that, but the defending at set-pieces wasn’t good enough. His players can take heart from how they played, but the injuries they’ve suffered are a problem for a thin squad.

Portsmouth 1-4 Arsenal (12 Jan, 2026) Game Analysis

Gabriel Martinelli hit the headlines for the right reasons by scoring a hat-trick as Arsenal overcame an early scare to thrash Championship strugglers Portsmouth 4-1 in the FA Cup third round.

Mikel Arteta's Premier League leaders fell behind less than three minutes into a rain-soaked contest at Fratton Park when Pompey captain Colby Bishop finished from close range.

Andre Dozzell's own goal quickly levelled the tie before Brazil forward Martinelli struck either side of Noni Madueke's penalty miss to put the Gunners in control.

Martinelli, who was widely criticised for attempting to push the injured Conor Bradley off the pitch during Thursday evening's goalless draw with Liverpool, completed his treble in the 72nd minute.

Every word Mikel Arteta said on Arsenal win over Portsmouth, Martinelli reaction, Havertz return

Arsenal's Spanish manager Mikel Arteta speaks to the media after FA Cup clash with Portsmouth(Image: Glyn KIRK / AFP via Getty Images)

Mikel Arteta spoke to the media following his side’s win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup third round. Despite the gap between the sides domestically, it was by no means a simple task.

The Gunners, who had seen as many as ten changes from the side that drew with Liverpool on Thursday, were not given a warm welcome and fell behind quickly. However, they were bailed out by three beautifully crafted set pieces.

Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz made their cases for the centre-forward positions as Viktor Gyokeres watched on. Gabriel Martinelli scored his first-ever senior hat-trick for the club too.

U23s narrowly defeated in second AFC U23 Asian Cup™ group stage game

The Olyroos thought they had snatched a point deep into extra time when Giuseppe Bovalina bundled the ball over the line at the back post, but a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review showed the Australian's hand touched the ball and the goal was disallowed.

Head coach Tony Vidmar made three changes from the opening game against Thailand, with Manchester United's James Overy and Perth Glory duo Nathanael Blair and Kaelan Majekodunmi making their first starts of the tournament.

The young Aussies dominated possession of the ball for the first half hour but were unable to create chances against a resolute China PR defence. Tony Vidmar's men started to penetrate their opposing penalty box ten minutes out from half time when a marauding run from Aydan Hammond ended with a collision in the area, but the referee dismissed penalty appeals from the Australians.

Late Olyroos drama as VAR rules out 94th minute equaliser in frustrating defeat to China, must win match looms

Giuseppe Bovalina had an equalising goal disallowed in the fourth minute of stoppage time as the Olyroos desperately tried to salvage a point in their Under-23s Asian Cup clash with China.

Bovalina, a second half substitute, thought he’d bundled home a wicked Ethan Alagich cross but replays clearly showed he had handled the ball after a ricochet off China’s goalkeeper, keeping the score at 1-0.

The disallowed goal capped a frustrating afternoon for Tony Vidmar’s side, whose historic goal scoring woes in recent Under-23 tournaments returned as they were unable to break down a stubborn Chinese rear guard.
