SKY’s the limit, as a new era dawns in men’s cricket | Cricket

Indian cricket is rarely static, but the shakeup within the team, ahead of the T20 World Cup, feels transformative as well as edgy.

The expectations are massive: the team must defend a well-earned supremacy on home soil in less than two months, while reframing its identity with a new generation of players, an upgraded philosophy, and a higher tolerance for calculated risk.

Compare the T20 World Cups of 2007, 2016 and 2024 with the upcoming one, and the shift in culture seems almost tectonic.

The most visible marker of it has been the team’s rapid transformation following the retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Their way of cricket was powerful and entertaining but still relatively old-school, their batting largely hinging on scoring according to the situation. T20 cricket, meanwhile, has evolved into a format that rewards explosive intent over prudence, flexibility over a particular order.

Warriors Announce Draymond Green Update Amid Steph Curry Situation

Both Steph Curry and Draymond Green were out of action for the Golden State Warriors on Friday. With Jimmy Butler and Jonathan Kuminga also out injured, the Warriors suffered a 131-94 blowout loss at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The shorthanded Warriors stood no chance against reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30 points, seven assists) and the defending champions. It was an embarrassing 37-point loss for Golden State, which dropped to 18-17 on the season.

The silver lining for the Warriors is that they get a chance to put this deflating defeat behind them as they return to action on Saturday in a home game against the 12-21 Utah Jazz.

Stephen Curry (ankle) hopeful to return Saturday

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said following Friday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder that he is hopeful Stephen Curry will be available for Saturday's game against the Utah Jazz. (Kenzo Fukuda on Twitter)

Steve Kerr is hopeful the core three can return tomorrow versus the Jazz. Steph Curry was managing an ankle tweak while Jimmy Butler was home sick tonight. Kerr said Draymond Green will play for sure.

Curry missed the first game of the Warriors’ back-to-back set with a tweaked ankle on Friday, but coach Kerr is hopeful he will return to the lineup on Saturday. If he is unable to play, Brandin Podziemski is expected to see increased minutes once again.

Opener Kerr carried her bat to be unbeaten on 106* at the Cello Basin Reserve against the Auckland Hearts on Monday, having won the toss and batted first.

She underpinned her team to a competitive total of 184/2 and enjoyed brilliant support from fellow WHITE FERN and opener Georgia Plimmer who produced her own career best in a record partnership.

Grace Scrivens’ All-Round Brilliance Seals 7-Run Escape for Central Hinds

Women's Cricket Live Scores, Match updates, Women's Fixtures, Results, News, Articles, Interviews and more

Central Hinds edged out Canterbury Magicians by a narrow seven-run margin in a high-scoring, momentum-shifting contest in the 9th match of the Women’s Super Smash 2025–26 at Nelson, a game that swung repeatedly before being decided in the final over. In a clash defined by fearless batting, late-innings pressure, and decisive middle-over bowling, Central Hinds held their nerve to defend a challenging target and climb the points table.

Asked to bat first, Central Hinds set the tone early through an aggressive opening stand that immediately put the Magicians on the back foot. Bryony Smith was fluent from the outset, mixing timing with intent as she raced to 45 off just 25 balls, striking eight fours and a six. Her opening partner ensured stability while Smith dominated the scoring, and the first wicket fell at 61 in the 7.2 overs, giving the Hinds a brisk platform. Smith’s dismissal brought Grace Scrivens to the crease, and the momentum barely dipped.

¡Cancha brava! South American football in dispute

The exhibition, curated by Luiza Romão, Matias Pinto, and Gisele de Paula, offers a historical, political, and poetic journey through the subcontinent based on football. It explores audiovisual installations, soundscapes, interactive experiences, photographs, and artworks, many of which were produced exclusively for the exhibition. Sponsors of the exhibition include Mercado Livre, Arkema, Goodyear, Farmacêutica EMS, and Itaú, with additional support from Adidas, Grupo Globo, Pinheiro Neto, Zanchetta, and Sabesp—all through the Federal Culture Incentive Law, Lei Rouanet.

As the title suggests, the exhibition is bilingual, exploring the intersections between Portuguese and Spanish. Cancha is a word of Quechua origin that means both ‘popcorn’ and ‘field’. And Brava means both “angry” and “great”. Together, they describe the fans who support and follow their teams intensely and unconditionally, everywhere, through thick and thin. !Cancha Brava! is thus a synthesis of the history of our football, comprising a lot of passion, peculiarities and fifty-fifty balls.

Run review – crime caper about notorious bank robber Brenden Abbott misses a few tricks

This Binge series based on the so-called ‘Postcard Bandit’ has all the ingredients of a cracking drama but is foiled by uneven pacing

Any show with “Run” as its title surely ought to bolt out of the gates and fang it hell-for-leather – barely stopping to catch its breath, proverbial sirens wailing. So it was a touch disappointing to discover that this new six-part series about notorious bank robber Brenden Abbott (George Mason) takes a while to find its rhythm, jumping around in time and stop-starting when it could’ve been charging ahead. Non-linear structures can be invigoratingly unconventional but in Run it often stalls momentum and feels too clever by half.

In 1987, Brenden Abbott – aka the Postcard Bandit – stole $112,000 from a branch of the Commonwealth Bank in suburban Perth. It was a bold armed robbery – dropping through the ceiling, just as the branch was beginning to open – but it also wasn’t uncommon. Armed bank robberies were almost an everyday occurrence in those days, as branches carried large amounts of cash and the security was rudimentary.

An extremely hot air mass will spread across Australia next week, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-high 40s in parts of four states.

Next week’s heat will be driven by a slow-moving upper-level ridge passing over Australia, which will allow a broad ‘heat trough’ to develop at the surface. This weather pattern will cause hot air to intensify over WA from this weekend before spreading across southern, central and southeastern Australia next week.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned Ballarat residents to prepare for a "mixed bag" to start 2026, swinging from thunderstorms to a mid-week heatwave that could push temperatures close to 40 degrees.

While the season had a slow start, BOM meteorologist Bureau forecaster Simon Timcke said the region will become "a little bit unstable" as a low-pressure trough moves across the state.

This shift brings a high chance of a "flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder" over the Ballarat area on the weekend of January 3 and 4.
