Jackies imports fire in upset of United

American imports Tyger Campbell and Bryce Hamilton fired as Tasmania boosted their NBL postseason hopes with a thumping 92-73 upset of Melbourne United.

Campbell top-scored with 20 points and Hamilton added 18 in the JackJumpers' huge win at John Cain Arena on Tuesday night.

David Johnson scored 14 and Josh Bannan had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Will Magnay (nine points, 10 boards) also shone as the JackJumpers won a one-sided rebound count (51-31), including a 14-5 advantage in offensive boards, and dominated in the paint.

Their impressive offensive output came despite shooting of just 4-of-17 from long range, in what was their best overall performance of the season.

JackJumpers outmuscle United in Open Air Game

The roof was open at John Cain Arena and the Tasmania JackJumpers deliberately chose to not test the elements too much and their focus on the inside worked a treat with a dominant 92-73 win over Melbourne United.

It turned out to be a complete domination on the inside from the JackJumpers as they outrebounded United 51 to 31 including 14 offensive boards to five.

Being aggressive attacking the rim was key too and as a result United centre Jesse Edwards was in foul trouble the whole game and limited to 18:54 for 13 points and four rebounds.

The JackJumpers were rewarded too by going 22/31 at the foul line and combining that with only the 11 turnovers and then not putting the ball up in the elements too much with 4/17 three-point shooting meant they put in a dominant performance to win by 19.

Bond-to-be: 10 celebrity names in the mix for Hollywood's most coveted role

It is one of the highest-grossing and longest-running film series of all time, spanning over 60 years, 27 movies and seven actors who have manned the helm as agent 007.

But the question on everyone's lips: which Hollywood heartthrob will be next to take over the coveted James Bond role?

Speculation has been swirling for quite some time, however casting details remain shrouded in secrecy.

So who will be Daniel Craig's worthy successor? We took a look at all the notable names in the mix for the seductive spy.

Much chatter surrounding the Bond-to-be has been centred around enduring favourite Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Long alleged to be a frontrunner in the race to play the titular spy following stand-out performances in Nosferatu (2024) and 28 Years Later (2025), the 32-year-old has now reportedly completed screentests at Pinewood Studios.

On a Thursday night in December, the stars of Heated Rivalry walked into the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. The occasion was an industry party the two men would not have been invited to just a few weeks ago, held at a hotel that would have likely turned them away. But then their smutty, NSFW drama about two closeted pro hockey players became a surprise hit on HBO Max. So Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams were welcomed inside like royalty—two smooth-chested crown princes mingling with Baz Luhrmann, Vicky Krieps, and the cast of The Pitt.

Down to Puck: Why Women Are Going Wild for ‘Heated Rivalry’

The Canadian series with explicit male-on-male sex scenes has tapped into a long-overlooked corner of the audience — and caught Hollywood by surprise

Thursday nights at the Poliquin household in Vancouver, British Columbia, are set aside for appointment viewing. That’s when new episodes of Heated Rivalry — the steamy gay hockey drama that has everyone buzzing — drop on premium streamer Crave in Canada and HBO Max in the U.S.

Not everyone joins in on the fun. The family’s two children, 11 and 13, are dispatched to their rooms. Matt, the dad, wanders off to the kitchen. It’s just Joy, a 45-year-old mom, who’s planted on the couch, eagerly awaiting every horny hookup between the show’s hunky protagonists: Russian Ilya Rozanov (played by Texas-born Connor Storrie, 25), star center of the fictional Boston Raiders, and Shane Hollander (Canadian actor Hudson Williams, 24), team captain of the also-fictional Montreal Metros.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 Sets Up Two Major Deaths Ahead Of The Series Finale

The following post contains spoilers for the events of "Stranger Things" Season 5, Volume 2.

Ahead of the fifth and final "Stranger Things" season, series co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer tiptoed around any theories about potential character deaths in the show's concluding episodes. Although "Stranger Things" has killed off fan favorites before — and could easily do it again — the Duffer Brothers have gently pushed back against the idea of any character meeting their demise for gratuitous reasons that don't serve the plot.

"We just always want to think ahead and not just do it to shock people or because people have a bloodlust, which they seem to have," the pair told The Independent in November. "We want to make sure that if someone dies like Eddie, who we killed last season, his death resonates throughout the course of Season 5."

Every death in Stranger Things 5 part 2 (plus the close calls that faked fans out)

After what felt like an eternity, the second part of Stranger Things season 5 has arrived on Netflix and the latest batch of episodes does not play around.

With the series finale fast approaching, there is a lot of ground to be covered to bridge the first and final parts of the season. The episodes are full of action and heartbreaking moments, and yes, there are some characters who perish along the way and others who have very close calls. If your nerves can’t take waiting to know whether your favorite character makes it to the series finale alive, allow us to be your source for spoilers!

    Battery fire warning

Noosa’s fire chief has issued a warning about the dangers of lithium-ion batteries, particularly over the New Year period.

Station Officer Brian Riley said there were many dangers with over-charging the batteries, particularly on e-bikes and scooters.

“We’ve had cases where a phone was being charged overnight under a dooner and it caught fire,” Mr Riley said.

He said the batteries can cause fires that are hard to put out, can restart even if they appear to be out and create toxic fumes and explosive gas.

Apart from phones and e-bikes, they are also used for power tools, cordless vacuums, laptops, toys and cameras. Even electric toothbrushes.

Bowen Yang’s ‘SNL’ Exit Is Most-Watched Episode in a Year

“Saturday Night Live” scored its most-watched episode in more than a year on Dec. 20 with 5.4 million viewers.

Not only was the episode hosted by pop star and “Wicked” actress Ariana Grande with Cher as musical guest — it also marked Bowen Yang’s final outing as a cast member. Yang joined “SNL” as a writer in 2018 before becoming the late night sketch show’s first-ever Asian cast member during Season 45 in 2019. News of his exit was reported the day before his last show.

This isn’t the first time Grande has brought strong ratings to “SNL”: When she hosted in October 2024 alongside musical guest Stevie Nicks, the resulting 5.6 million viewers were the show’s biggest audience since Elon Musk hosted in May 2021. During Season 50, Grande’s episode was only outdone when John Mulaney hosted the following month, hitting 6.8 million viewers, and Grande’s Season 51 episode has been the biggest since then.

‘SNL’ Hits Season High With Holiday Episode Featuring Ariana Grande & Cher

Saturday Night Live hit a season high as it rang in the holidays.

NBC has revealed that the Ariana Grande-hosted episode, which featured Cher as musical guest, averaged 5.4M viewers, making it the most-watched episode of the show’s Season 51.

The previous high was the 4.6M that tuned in for the October 4 season premiere, which was hosted by Bad Bunny. The numbers were live-plus-same-day Nielsen data.

The episode was also the most-watched episode since November 2, 2024, which was hosted by John Mulaney, and the highest Christmas episode in five years.

In terms of digital reach, it was the second ranked episode on Peacock, behind the season premiere, and drew 503M social views across YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok, which the network says is “outpacing” last season’s Ariana Grande-hosted episode, which was the most viewed social episode of Season 50.

Cher returns to 'SNL' after 40 years. Fans wonder if she lip synced.

It only took a mere 40 years, but Cher finally returned to Studio 8H.

The icon graced the “Saturday Night Live” stage as the musical guest Dec. 20, also the show’s final episode of the year.

In a blond wig and pastiche of kitschy pants and a leather jacket, Cher, 79, performed her 2023 holiday song, “DJ Play A Christmas Song.”

The vocoder-heavy track was delivered by the seemingly ageless singer and actress with low-key charm as she smiled at the pack of dancers twirling and spinning around her on the blue-hued stage.

At the end of her performance, Cher did her patented mic clasp and bow before holding her fingers up in a heart.

‘Heated Rivalry’ and the Art of a Truly Joyful Press Tour

During an otherwise bleak news cycle, the stars of a queer Canadian hockey drama have managed to win hearts and viewers.

It’s not often you see a press tour that is as joy-filled as the project that it’s publicizing — even rarer is one that seems to peddle the same crackling chemistry off- as it does onscreen.

But that’s what appears to be happening with Canada’s queer romance series Heated Rivalry, which centers on closeted hockey rivals Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), and is based on a book series by the same name. The six-episode first season made its U.S. debut on HBO Max in late November — and in the weeks since, the series that New York magazine says makes “Heartstopper seem like Teletubbies” has flooded the Internet with swoon-worthy GIFs, memes and myriad think pieces, as its wide-eyed stars dole out one viral interview after another. (If you haven’t yet watched Williams’ five minute skincare routine, which is somehow 20 minutes long, it is a sheer delight.)

A defiant Ben Stokes has gone into bat for his England teammates ahead of the Boxing Day Test.

Stokes said the mental health of his charges was his top priority as the fallout from England's Noosa trip continues.

England have made two changes for the Boxing Day Test with Ollie Pope dropped and Jofra Archer ruled out for the rest of the tour with a side strain.

An emotional Ben Stokes has defended the England team after a social media video said to feature Ben Duckett was the latest crisis to hit their disastrous Ashes tour.

Another England fast bowler injured as Stokes issues emotional defence in face of 'pile on'

An emotional Ben Stokes vowed to close ranks around his players amid ongoing fallout from their mid-Ashes Noosa getaway, as England's tour went from bad to worse after Jofra Archer became their latest bowler to go down with injury.

A pace attack hyped as the quickest England have ever brought here has now seen its two fastest pacemen go down with tour-ending injuries as Archer was revealed to have suffered a side strain during last week's Adelaide Test.

Mark Wood was sent home with a knee injury last month after bowling just 11 overs for the tour, with Archer now joining him having sent down 80 overs across the first three Tests. The 30-year-old has endured an injury-plagued career and spent four years on the sidelines before returning in July.

Stokes calls for ‘empathy’ for England players and pledges support for Duckett

Ben Stokes has called for the public and the media to show “empathy” towards his embattled England players. It comes as their Ashes campaign threatens to fully unravel in response to a guaranteed series defeat and allegations of excessive drinking during a mid-tour break in Noosa.

Sitting 3-0 down going into the Boxing Day Test, England have been hit by reports that their downtime in between the defeats in Brisbane and Adelaide was akin to a “stag do”. The emergence of footage appearing to show Ben Duckett drunk and slurring his words on a night out has heightened things.

The video, taken by an English traveller called “Sam” and posted on social media, has not cost Duckett his place albeit England have made changes to their XI for the fourth Test. Jofra Archer’s tour is over with a side strain, Ollie Pope has been dropped, with Jacob Bethell and Gus Atkinson coming in.

Australia defeats words with actions to complete rapid Ashes romp

It ended as it was always supposed to, with a scrum of Australian cricketers in the middle of the Adelaide Oval, leaping and hugging and screaming in celebration of Ashes victory.

The overnight headlines pitched a foregone conclusion and Australian coronation, and had you slept through everything that happened in the four hours before that mid-pitch convergence, you may have assumed you missed the procession.

England's backbone, belatedly fortified, took Australia about as far as it could have ever hoped to. With little more than a bit of determination and some respectful batting, England whittled the chase to under 200, under 150, under 100, all the way into the pits of Australian stomachs.

The key moments that turned Ashes in Aussies' favour

England were left to rue their inability to 'seize the moment' as they surrended their Ashes challenge in 11 days' play, so what were those series-defining key moments?

With the Ashes series decided before Christmas, the Bazball autopsy is certain to be thorough.

Were England deficient technically? Tactically? Mentally? Or perhaps all of the above?

Well, according to the England leadership, a larger factor than both the batters' shot selection or bowlers' lines and lengths was their side's inability to "seize the key moments".

What makes a moment? It's a subjective term, but it's effectively a passage of play that could last a full session or a single ball. They're the mini-battles and periods of time that determine the outcome of the match.
