Nawaqanitawase desperate to extend wild NRL sojourn one more week

He’s been in the NRL for basically five minutes, but Mark Nawaqanitawase has achieved more in his short career than others do over years.

He’s played State of Origin, he’s played for the Kangaroos, and he’s a win away from playing in a grand final.

Since making the switch from rugby sevens after the Paris 2024 Olympics, ‘Marky Mark’ has undeniably set the NRL on fire. He’s scored tries for fun – and stopped just as many – opposite some of the best wingers in the game, and done it all with a smile.

He scored on debut in the final round of the 2024 season, and virtually hasn’t stopped. He’s scored 43 tries from 45 appearances, including nine doubles, four hat-tricks and even a four-try haul against the Storm in late 2025.

Cricket boundaries, Mexican waves and first-time fans: Why Eden Park fails the Warriors

In more than 15 years of covering the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, I’ve never seen a Mexican wave in the crowd during a match.

Yet just after halftime on Sunday at Eden Park, with the game against the Knights delicately poised at 6-6, many of the 48,000 fans in
attendance were on their feet to create the ripple effect. That was an instant – and telling difference – when assessing the experience last weekend, as the Warriors returned to the Auckland venue for the first time since 2014.

AFLW Match Report: Roberts shines in milestone match as Eagles down Bombers

WEST Coast has put more distance between itself and its 0-4 start, winning its third game in a row and in doing so, consigning Essendon to yet another loss.

The winless Bombers, who now sit at 0-7, started hot and finished strong, but the damage was done by the Eagles in the middle two quarters as their talented brigade of young guns set up the 6.9 (45) to 4.11 (35) contest.

Essendon was up for the fight early, attacking each contest with pace and intent, but West Coast managed to hold on and ride out the storm.

Once the initial heat was absorbed with only minimal damage on the scoreboard (a Steph Cain goal to open proceedings), the Eagles wrestled back control and were able to start playing on their own terms rather than chasing the Bombers’ handball chains around the ground.

The Bostock family are gearing up for a massive weekend of football, with siblings Indie and Jack both putting it all on the line in their preliminary finals.

Indie is on a 10-game winning streak with the Titans, having made her club debut in Round 2, while Jack has not suffered a defeat in his 15 games played this NRL season, as well as wins in Origin Three and his sole game with Redcliffe in the Hostplus Cup where he scored two tries in his comeback from an ACL injury.

Retiring Dolphin Ray Stone has been lauded by coach Kristian Woolf over his toughness ahead of what could be his final NRL game.

Woolf said Stone, 29, is "in the top group" when it comes to the toughest players in the league.

Stone will be in action when the Dolphins host the Roosters in the preliminary final at Lang Park from 7:50pm AEST on Friday night. ABC Sport will live blog the match.

Coach Woolf calls Stone one of NRL's toughest players — ABC News Australia

In Australia, 29-year-old Dolphins player Ray Stone will end his NRL career after the 2026 season. The match against the Sydney Roosters in the preliminary final could be his last if the Dolphins do not reach the season's deciding match.

Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf called Stone one of the league's toughest players. As ABC News Australia reports, last season the forward played the final six rounds with a broken arm and took the field in the final 15 rounds after receiving injections in both shoulders. After the season ended, he underwent shoulder surgery.

Woolf said that what he values most is not only Stone's physical toughness, but also his commitment to the team. According to the coach, the player does not want to let his teammates down: he puts in effort when chasing an opponent after a kick, making tackles and carrying the ball into contact.

UN delegates walk out as Netanyahu attacks Israel's critics

Scores of UN delegates have once again walked out on Benjamin Netanyahu as he prepared to give a table-thumping speech in which he lavished praise on US President Donald Trump and attacked Israel's critics.

The Israeli prime minister used the address to decry accusations of genocide — from a UN-backed inquiry, human rights groups, genocide scholars and world leaders at this week's UN summit — as the "greatest lie of the century".

He took particular aim at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has described Mr Netanyahu as the "architect of a horrific genocide" and in the past suggested he might order New York Police to arrest him. Mr Netanyahu is the subject of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Indignant Israeli PM stares down critics but wins few new friends

Lashing out at his country’s critics, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu angrily dismissed allegations of Israeli genocide in Gaza in a defiant speech to the UN General Assembly that asserted his nation’s right to wage war against Iran. Scores of delegates trooped out of the hall in protest.

Netanyahu addressed the plenum after days of speeches by world leaders condemning Israel’s war in Gaza and accusing him of orchestrating a genocide against the Palestinian people. At times, the Israeli leader, facing a tough race for re-election next month, became emotional and indignant as he lectured his critics, among them New York’s mayor.

Falcons trample punchless Packers as Bijan Robinson runs riot in Penix return

Bijan Robinson rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns as the Atlanta Falcons capitalized on the return of quarterback Michael Penix Jr and trounced the punchless Green Bay Packers 35-14 on Thursday night.

Atlanta (1-2) erased an early 7-0 deficit by scoring 27 straight points to take control amid a chorus of boos at Lambeau Field. The Falcons outrushed the Packers 242 yards to 17.

Green Bay (1-2) lost a home opener for the first time since falling 30-22 to the San Francisco 49ers in 2012. The Packers had won 13 straight home openers from 2013-25 to share the NFL record with the Miami Dolphins, who also won 13 in a row from 1976-88.

The Falcons Running Back Gives The Team 1 Reason To Believe

The Atlanta Falcons haven’t exactly had the best start to the 2026 season.

They’ve been outscored 54-16 through a combined two games, and the performance of stand-in quarterback Cooper Rush was unpleasant to say the least.

Despite this, Falcons running back Bijan Robinson has still been performing at the level that they expect him to, and with the impending return of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to the lineup for Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers, things could be looking up for the Falcons sooner rather than later.

The team struggles haven’t exactly seeped into the performance of the dynamic Falcons running back.

Robinson is going to be good to go for Thursday night's game, despite being listed on the team's injury report earlier in the week due to an ankle issue of some kind. He will continue to be involved as the RB2 on this offense behind Bijan Robinson for the foreseeable future.

Brian Robinson Gets into end zone in win

Robinson rushed 10 times for 50 yards and a touchdown and returned two kickoffs for 54 yards in the Falcons' 35-14 win over the Packers on Thursday.

Robinson's backfield mate Bijan Robinson and No. 1 receiver Drake London stole the show Thursday while accruing 194 yards apiece, but Brian had his own moment in the spotlight when he capped off a 10-play, 92-yard drive in the third quarter with a seven-yard touchdown run. Brian Robinson now has back-to-back games with double-digit carries and has at least 50 rushing yards in each, keeping him somewhat relevant in very deep formats heading into a Week 4 road matchup against the Saints on Monday, Oct. 5.

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said he believes the outcome of the Lachie Neale case should have come earlier.

Neale was handed a reprieve from a one-match ban to allow him to play in Saturday's AFL grand final.

Neale and the Brisbane Lions will look to claim their third premiership in a row when they take on the Dockers.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan doubted Lachie Neale would be cleared for the AFL grand final, as his "cynical" Fremantle counterpart Justin Longmuir took umbrage with the lengthy process.

Appeals board stunner: Neale free to play in the grand final, cops fine instead

Lachie Neale is free to play in the grand final after the AFL appeals board sensationally handed him a fine, overturning a one-match suspension on Thursday night.

The board of chairman Richard Loveridge and members Wayne Henwood and Stephen Jurica found that the AFL tribunal should have used the exemplary and compelling circumstances exception to reduce Neale’s one-game ban for gut-punching Jack Ginnivan.

They instead gave him a $10,000 fine after the AFL was denied the opportunity to introduce new evidence in the hearing – vision taken during a trial of an optical data tracking trial by Champion Data.

Loveridge said the board only wanted to consider the evidence that the tribunal originally considered.
