The Sixers just turned Paul George into Jaylen Brown and transformed themselves for an unbelievable price

Their title hopes still hinge largely on the availability of Embiid. The difference now is that they will not need Embiid to be anything close to his MVP prime in order to be taken seriously.

And for the long, arduous process of building a contender piece by piece.

So much for all of the hand-wringing about Kelly Oubre Jr. and Quentin Grimes and LaBaron Philon Jr.

The 76ers did the unthinkable on Wednesday. They did it to such an extent that it still isn’t thinkable. In fact, it’s barely believable.

3 things to watch in Knicks-76ers Game 3

Health questions for both teams, Tyrese Maxey handling the blitz and paint discrepancies are all factors in Friday's clash.

The Knicks’ offense and defense would take a big hit if OG Anunoby is unable to go in Game 3.

The Philadelphia 76ers came back from a 3-1 deficit against the 2 seed in the first round. So a 2-0 deficit against the 3 seed in the Eastern Conference semifinals should seem relatively manageable.

But over the last three weeks, the New York Knicks have been the best basketball team outside of Oklahoma City. And through Game 2, they’ve outscored their playoff opponents by 19.4 points per 100 possessions. The Sixers played much better in Game 2 than they did in Game 1, but still came up short, scoring an anemic 12 points on 21 possessions in the fourth quarter.

Brunson steers Knicks to 2-0 lead with tight win over Sixers

NEW YORK — Jalen Brunson scored 26 points and helped New York seize control of a close game after a run of blowouts, leading the Knicks to a 108-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night for a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Playing without the injured Joel Embiid, the 76ers put up a far better fight than in the Knicks' 137-98 romp in Game 1. The game featured 25 lead changes — the most in a playoff game in 11 years — and 14 ties. Neither team led by more than seven points.

"Most importantly it's staying poised, staying composed," Brunson said. "Just figuring out one play at a time, one step at a time and not looking too far ahead."

Knicks vs. 76ers Game 3 prediction, best bets: Can Karl-Anthony Towns keep up the assists?

The Knicks survived a thriller at Madison Square Garden, and the series shifts to Philadelphia, which should be welcoming to New York and its traveling fans for Game 3.

The Knicks are on an impressive five-game win streak during the NBA playoffs that spans the last three games of the first round against the Hawks and the first two games of this second round series against the 76ers.

Jalen Brunson has shown his usual All-NBA ceiling, OG Anunoby looks like he should be an All-Star, Mikal Bridges has found his game at the perfect time, and Josh Hart has done all the little things the Knicks need to win.

Embiid status up in the air as Sixers look for another bounce back in Game 4 vs. Celtics

The Sixers will have a chance at home to even their first-round playoff series against the Celtics on Sunday night before things head back up to Boston.

The Philadelphia 76ers will get a chance at home to even their first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics on Sunday in Game 4.

The Celtics were able to reclaim the series lead on Friday, going up 2-1 after defeating the hosting Sixers in Game 3. It was a much closer affair though than Boston’s first win in this series — a 32-point victory in Game 1 — with Philadelphia putting up another valiant effort until simply faltering a bit too much at the end of the 108-100 contest.

Celtics, 76ers Game 4 injury reports: who’s in, who’s out

Joel Embiid (doubtful) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (questionable) are both on the 76ers injury report ahead of Game 3 vs the Celtics.

PHILADELPHIA — The Celtics will be at full strength when they face off against the 76ers in Game 4 on Sunday night in Philadelphia. The team shared a completely clean injury report, even though it appeared that Jaylen Brown and Derrick White both got banged up in Friday’s Game 3 Celtics win.

But, the 76ers continue to list Joel Embiid (post-appendectomy surgery recovery) as doubtful, while adding Kelly Oubre Jr (questionable with right adductor soreness) to the injury report.

White seemingly hurt his neck in the first minute of the ball game, while Brown turned his ankle in the fourth quarter. Neither player subbed out of the game, and both confirmed they were fine after the fact.

3 things to watch in Celtics-76ers Game 2

A star turn for Tyrese Maxey, continued recovery for Jayson Tatum & Joel Embiid's availability are key for Celtics-Sixers Game 2.

Jayson Tatum is rounding into shape right in time for the Celtics to make a deep playoff run.

The Philadelphia 76ers will need a powerful Game 2 response to invite suspense in their first-round series with the Boston Celtics.

They don’t necessarily need to win Tuesday (7 ET, Peacock/NBC Sports), but simply make it a four-quarter game and the last few minutes meaningful.

None of that happened in Game 1, won breezily by Boston, and now the Sixers have logic against them along with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. And logic might be more powerful because it plants a seed of doubt.

    Celtics 123-91 76ers (20 Apr, 2026) Game Recap

BOSTON — — Jayson Tatum had 25 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in his first playoff game since rupturing his right Achilles tendon last season, and the Boston Celtics rolled past the Philadelphia 76ers 123-91 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Sunday.

Jaylen Brown scored 26 points and Neemias Queta added 13 for the second-seeded Celtics.

Tatum scored 21 points in the first half, playing in just his 17th game this season following surgery last May to repair his Achilles tendon.

“I’m still rehabbing,” Tatum said. “I still attack rehab every single day except for when we have off days. … Still trying to ramp up.”

    76ers 139-118 Kings (20 Mar, 2026) Game Recap

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — — Rookie VJ Edgecombe scored a career high 38 points with 11 assists, Justin Edwards was 7 of 11 from 3-point range and finished with 32 points, and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Sacramento Kings 139-118 on Thursday night.

Quentin Grimes scored 27 points as the 76ers ended a five-game road losing streak and won for the fourth time in their last six games playing without their two biggest stars — Joel Embiid (strained right oblique) and Tyrese Maxey (finger).

Embiid has missed 11 straight games but coach Nick Nurse said he has been making progress.

Edwards shot 11 of 18 from the field overall and went 3 for 3 from the line.

The Sixers took care of business in Sacramento, defeating the Kings 139-118 and bouncing back from Wednesday’s blowout in Denver.

The Sixers treated fans who stayed up to watch with an extremely strong offensive performance, including a couple of career nights against the lottery-chasing Kings.

One of the toughest choices for Bell Ringer this season, so have at it.

Instant observations: VJ Edgecombe, Justin Edwards, Quentin Grimes lead Sixers to much-needed win over Kings

Justin Edwards and Quentin Grimes have played a whole lot of March basketball together over the last two years.

If there is one feeling that has persisted throughout the 2025-26 Sixers season, it is volatility. Signs of major promise have been routinely followed up by devastating crashes back down to harsh realities, and vice versa.

So, it was only fitting that after suffering an embarrassing wire-to-wire loss at the hands of the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, the shorthanded Sixers notched an emphatic 139-118 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Even more fittingly, they still managed to display both high-caliber, cohesive play and brutal, sloppy runs. Luckily for the Sixers, there was much more of the former than the latter.

    Nuggets 124-96 76ers (18 Mar, 2026) Game Recap

DENVER — — Christian Braun had 22 points, Nikola Jokic finished with 14 assists, and the Denver Nuggets routed the injury-plagued Philadelphia 76ers 124-96 on Tuesday night.

Denver kept pace with Minnesota, which beat Phoenix on Tuesday night, in a tight Western Conference race. There are 1 1/2 games separating the third-place Los Angeles Lakers and the Timberwolves in sixth.

Philadelphia played without Joel Embiid (right oblique strain), Tyrese Maxey (sprained finger) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (left elbow strain). Paul George is serving a 25-game suspension.

The sold-out crowd booed Embiid when he came to the bench for the first time in the third quarter. Embiid has missed the last six Sixers games in Denver, denying Nuggets fans an MVP matchup between the Philadelphia big man and Jokic.

Nuggets vs. 76ers Prediction: Preview, Injury Report, Advantages, X-Factors

The Nuggets host the 76ers at Ball Arena on Tuesday, March 17, at 10:00 p.m. ET.

The Nuggets enter at 41-27, fifth in the West, and 18-13 at home, while the 76ers are 37-31, ninth in the East, and 17-15 on the road.

The Nuggets are coming off a 127-125 overtime loss to the Lakers, while the 76ers just beat the Blazers 109-103 after also taking down the Nets.

The season series is 1-0 for the Nuggets after a 125-124 overtime win in the first meeting on Jan. 5, so this is a chance for them to complete the sweep and for the 76ers to prove their recent patchwork run is not a fluke.

    Celtics 114-98 76ers (2 Mar, 2026) Game Recap

BOSTON — — Neemias Queta scored a career-high 27 points and added 17 rebounds to help the Boston Celtics recover from a slow start and rally to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-98 on Sunday night.

Jaylen Brown added 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Derrick White finished with 21 points and eight assists as the Celtics became the fourth team to reach 40 victories. They have won six of seven.

It was the 11th double-double of the season for Queta, who also had three blocks. He has three double-doubles — with at least two blocks in each — over his last five games.

Philadelphia cut what was a 16-point lead by Boston in the second half to 103-97 with just over four minutes to play. But Queta scored Boston’s next eight points to put the Celtics in front 111-98 and help close it out.

Celtics Notes: Queta, Scheierman, Tatum, Vucevic

Celtics starting center Neemias Queta recently detailed his journey as the NBA’s first (and only) player from Portugal in an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape. Queta’s parents moved to Portugal from their native Guinea-Bissau due to the civil war that took place in the West African country in the late 1990s, Spears writes.

Queta has never been to Guinea-Bissau or to Africa, but he hopes to visit his parents’ home country with his mother “in the next couple of years.”

“They were in kind of like a refugee type of situation. It was more trying to get to that safe place and Port Portugal welcomed them,” Queta said.

Sixers Bell Ringer: 56 points from Maxey-Edgecombe duo not enough to beat Celtics

A combined 56 points from the guard duo of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe wasn’t enough to overcome the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

The Philadelphia 76ers fell 114-98 to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Sunday night. It was the fourth and final meeting between the teams this regular season — they split the series 2-2.

Joel Embiid was out for this contest (as he will be for the Sixers’ next two as well) after being diagnosed with a right oblique strain. Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe tried to pick up the slack, scoring 33 and 23 points respectively, but it simply wasn’t enough to keep up with the Celtics.

MINNEAPOLIS — — Tyrese Maxey had 39 points and eight assists, VJ Edgecombe made a career-high six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, and the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 135-108 on Sunday night to snap a four-game losing streak — all by double figures.

Maxey made 16 of 28 shots from the field and hit four of Philadelphia's 21 3-pointers. Quentin Grimes had 19 points, which included five 3s, and seven assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 18 points and four steals.

Coming off a 126-111 defeat Saturday night at New Orleans, the Sixers were again without center Joel Embiid, who missed his third straight game since the All-Star break due to right shin soreness. Embiid also sat out three of the last five games going into the break with soreness in his right knee.

The Sixers tasted their first win in nearly two weeks Sunday night.

Facing the prospect of a five-game losing streak, they earned a 135-108 victory over the Timberwolves at Target Center.

Tyrese Maxey was fantastic with 39 points and eight assists. VJ Edgecombe added 24 points and seven rebounds.

Joel Embiid sat out his fifth game in a row with an official designation of “right shin soreness and right knee injury management.” The Sixers announced Sunday that rookie Johni Broome suffered a right knee lateral meniscus tear while playing for the Delaware Blue Coats.

Unfortunate News For Anthony Edwards Ahead Of Game Against Philadelphia 76ers

The Minnesota Timberwolves (35–22) welcome the Philadelphia 76ers (30–26) to Target Center on Sunday, February 22, 2026, with both sides short-handed in the paint. Minnesota comes in as an 8.5-point favorite after beating the Dallas Mavericks 122–111. Anthony Edwards set the tone once again, averaging 29.5 points per game this season and recently claiming the 2026 All-Star Game MVP.

Still, Minnesota will have to adjust without Rudy Gobert, who is serving a one-game suspension after picking up his seventh flagrant foul point. The Timberwolves are expected to start Naz Reid at center, leaning on him to protect a defense that ranks seventh in the league against a Philadelphia team that has hit a rough patch.

The game featured two big names who weren’t selected as All-Star reserves: Joel Embiid of the Sixers and Kawhi Leonard of the Clippers.

Embiid had 24 points as he continues to gain full strength after a right ankle injury. The Sixers improved to 11-10 without Paul George, who is serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug program.

Leonard led the Clippers with 29 points and Jordan Miller had 21 points off the bench.

Sixers takeaways: Dominick Barlow’s stellar play, sharpshooting from three, and more in win over Clippers

Barlow set a career-high with 26 points and 10 offensive rebounds, becoming the first Sixer to post that stat line since Charles Barkley did so in 1990.

Paced by Tyrese Maxey’s season-high seven three-pointers, the 76ers showed why they are tough to beat when they’re making threes.

And facing Ivica Zubac remains a lopsided matchup for Joel Embiid.

These things stood out in a 128-113 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. The win extended the Sixers’ (28-21) winning streak to a season-tying four games heading into Tuesday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
