With Ferrero, Alcaraz claimed six Grand Slam titles: two French Open titles, two Wimbledon crowns and two US Opens. He amassed 24 tour-level titles, including eight Masters 1000 trophies. The 22-year-old had a career-best and season-leading 71 match wins and claimed eight titles this season.

Alcaraz splits with long-time coach Ferrero

Carlos Alcaraz has surprisingly split with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after seven years working together.

Alcaraz has worked with Ferrero – who won the French Open as a player in 2003 – since he was a teenager, winning all of his 24 career titles alongside him.

That includes six grand slam triumphs, two of which came this year at Roland-Garros and the US Open, and eight ATP 1000 crowns.

Alcaraz was just 15 when he started working with Ferrero, with their partnership ending after he secured the year-end number one spot for the second time (also 2022).

No reason was given for the spilt as Alcaraz announced the news via a statement on social media, which read: "Thank you for turning childhood dreams into realities.

TURIN, Italy — Carlos Alcaraz is one win away from securing the year-ending No. 1 ranking.

Alcaraz rallied past Taylor Fritz 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday at the ATP Finals and now needs to either win his final group match against Lorenzo Musetti or an eventual semifinal to finish a year No. 1 for the second time in his career.

Alcaraz, who improved to 2-0 at the season-ending event for the top eight players, could seal a spot in the semifinals if Alex de Minaur beats Musetti later.

Carlos Alcaraz has seized control of Alex de Minaur's group in the ATP Finals after coming back from a set down to defeat Taylor Fritz 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 6-3 in Turin.

The world No.2 needed two hours, 48 minutes to see off the American and back up his first round victory over de Minaur.

That left the Australian knowing if he can beat Lorenzo Musetti in the Jimmy Connors group's second match on Tuesday (local time) he would set up a winner-takes-all final group tie with Fritz as both chase a semi-final place.
