    Indian Wells: All 15 stars to withdraw as seeded trio could follow

    Main draw action at the 2026 Indian Wells Open will get underway on Wednesday 4 March, and 15 players have already withdrawn across both singles events.

    Indian Wells is the first ATP 1000 event of the season and the third WTA 1000 after tournaments in Doha and Dubai in February.

    The combined ATP/WTA tournament, which is staged at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in the Californian desert, is one of the most prestigious events in the sport outside of the four Grand Slams.

    Indian Wells is the first leg of the ‘Sunshine Double’ in the United States, with the Miami Open — held later in March — the second leg.

    Four WTA Players Withdraw From BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells

    The main draw of the 2026 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, often referred to as the fifth Grand Slam, is scheduled from March 4th to 15th. Mirra Andreeva will start as the defending champion after winning her second WTA 1000 title 12 months ago. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Australian Open winner Elena Rybakina are also on the entry list. Four women, including a two-time Grand Slam champion, withdrew from the prestigious tournament.

    Barbora Krejcikova was the most notable player to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open. The former French Open and Wimbledon champion cannot play in California due to an injury. Amanda Anisimova received a walkover from Krejcikova at the Dubai Tennis Championships because of that physical issue, and she has not recovered in time to compete at the third WTA 1000 event of 2026.

She is hoping to become a general practitioner or a gynaecologist, but even after years of study, there is no guarantee her wage will be high enough to buy property where her family and friends live.

    “We’re expected to work hard, study hard, but there are things that people would have looked forward to 20 or 30 years ago, it’s not the same for us. Buying properties before, that would have been seen as just something that you do, whereas now you’re lucky if you can buy a property,” Elarjoun said.

    Basic habits to help young people be financially resilient

    With interest rates on the rise again, house prices continuing to soar, and inflation outpacing wages, it's no surprise that many people are struggling with the cost of living.

    Increasingly, young Australians say they're not just worried about the situation now, but also what it means for the future.

    Will ‌Jacks has impressed with bat and ball to rescue England from a poor start and help them to a 51-run ‌victory over Sri Lanka in a low-scoring Super Eight match at the Twenty20 World Cup.

    Tournament co-hosts Sri ‌Lanka appeared to be well set after restricting England to a below-par 9-146 in the Group 2 match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

    But Jacks, who made 21 useful runs down the order, returned to claim 3-22 as England bowled out Sri Lanka for 95 inside 17 overs to prevail.

    Sri Lanka's batters could have taken better options, according to Vikram Rathour, after the hosts crashed to 95 all out against England, chasing 147. Rathour has been the side's batting consultant since January, but Sri Lanka have been a modest T20 batting side for years now, falling short of the Super Eight in the last T20 World Cup, and having had to qualify for the two previous iterations.

    And still, in front of a full house in Pallekele, and with a relatively low total to chase, Sri Lanka lost five wickets in the powerplay. Rathour said the pitch had been tricky.

    NBA All-Star Ratings Way Up After Jump to NBC

    Preliminary ratings show the All-Star Game was the league’s most-watched in 14 years.

    The NBA All-Star Game delivered a much-needed ratings win for the league’s midseason showcase.

    The 2026 NBA All-Star Game drew 8.8 million viewers across NBC, Peacock, and Telemundo, according to preliminary Nielsen data and Adobe Analytics, the network announced Monday. That number would be an 87% increase in viewers over last year (4.7 million, second-lowest in history), and the most-watched NBA All-Star Game since 2011.

    It was the first NBA All-Star Game on NBC Sports since 2002. 

    NBC said viewership peaked at 9.8 million viewers from 7-7:15 p.m. ET, the closing minutes of the third game of the four-game tournament—essentially the third quarter of a regular game—when Team USA Stripes defeated Team World, 48–45.

    Adam Silver considering all remedies for rampant tanking in NBA

    INGLEWOOD, Calif. — NBA commissioner Adam Silver said Saturday that tanking has been "worse this year than we've seen in recent memory" and he is considering "every possible remedy" — including taking away draft picks — to stop the type of overt behaviors he fined the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers for this week.

    "In the old days, it was just sort of an understanding among partners in terms of behavior," Silver said before Saturday's All-Star events. "I think what we're seeing is modern analytics where it's so clear that the incentives are misaligned. … Are we seeing behavior that is worse this year than we've seen in recent memory? Yes, is my view. Which was what led to those fines, and not just those fines but to my statement that we're going to be looking more closely at the totality of all the circumstances this season in terms of teams' behavior, and very intentionally wanted teams to be on notice."

    NBA's marquee event now all about the league's issues

    INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Two minutes before NBA commissioner Adam Silver was scheduled to address the media in an upstairs room at Intuit Dome, his deputy, Mark Tatum, cheerfully shook hands with reporters before taking his seat in the front row.

    That the league’s second-in-command was eagerly anticipating Silver’s words, much like the other occupants in the room, was poignant. Given the most prominent talking points that have dominated league discourse lately — the tanking epidemic, sports betting issues and alleged cap circumvention — have become so prevalent, the build-up to Silver’s news conference was seismic.

    However, following the duration of Silver’s availability — he spoke for around 30 minutes — there were far more questions as a result of his answers (or lack thereof).

    The only way to "align incentives" for NBA, NFL teams is to remove the incentive to tank

    On Saturday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged the NBA’s longstanding tanking problem. He candidly admitted that, when it comes to winning games and securing dibs on the best incoming players, the incentives are misaligned.

    The only way to ensure full integrity of the games in an age of legalized gambling, with every team trying its best to win every single game, is to fully align the incentives. And the only way to do that is to revolutionize the way the draft order is determined.

    It’s that simple. Any effort to tie draft order to performance, or lack thereof, will incentivize a business decision to not try to win, or to actively try to lose.
