Rita Wilson looks back: ‘Cancer was terrifying, but now I see it as a gift. It gave me an extra lease on life’

The actor and producer on being a teenage model, making My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and the secret to long-lasting love

Born in Hollywood in 1956, Rita Wilson’s first role was in The Brady Bunch at the age of 15. She went on to appear in Frasier and The Good Wife, as well as romcom classics such as Sleepless in Seattle and Runaway Bride. She produced the highest‑grossing romcom of all time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, as well as Mamma Mia! and A Man Called Otto, which starred her husband, Tom Hanks, and son Truman. Alongside her career on screen, she has released music since 2012. Her sixth studio album, Sound of a Woman, is out on 1 May.

Rita Wilson had a blunt request for Tom Hanks amid cancer diagnosis

The actress and country music singer, who battled breast cancer more than a decade ago, opened up about how the health scare impacted her relationship with longtime husband Tom Hanks.

In 2015, Wilson, then 58, revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction.

During an appearance at 92NY on Tuesday, April 28, for her upcoming "Sound of a Woman" album, Wilson told friend and interviewer Demi Moore about the emotional request she had for Hanks if she didn't survive her cancer journey, according to People magazine.

"I said to Tom, I'm like, 'OK, if something happens and I go first, I just have two requests,'" Wilson, now 69, said, per the outlet. "And one is that you should be sad for a very, very long time."

Rita Wilson Reveals Cancer Diagnosis Deal With Husband Tom Hanks

Rita Wilson, 69, is looking back at one of the personal conversations she had with husband Tom Hanks, 69, after her cancer diagnosis—and the two requests she made if things didn’t go her way. Speaking on Tuesday at the Sound of a Woman: Rita Wilson in Conversation with Demi Moore event, the actress said she wasn’t sure what the future held when she was diagnosed in 2015, so she laid it out plainly for her husband of nearly four decades. First: “Be sad for a very long time.” Second: “Throw me a party. I want it to be a celebration of life,” she said, with people “telling stories and joy and remembering me in that way.” That deeply personal moment later inspired her 2019 song “Throw Me a Party.” Wilson’s reflections come as she marks 10 years cancer-free. In a March 31 Instagram post, she looked back on her journey, including undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery—milestones she said have left her “extremely grateful” for the support of her family, friends, and doctors. Wilson first met Hanks on the set of the sitcom Bosom Buddies. After two years of dating, they got married in 1988 and went on to have two children, Chester “Chet” Hanks and Truman Theodore Hanks.

Embiid status up in the air as Sixers look for another bounce back in Game 4 vs. Celtics

The Sixers will have a chance at home to even their first-round playoff series against the Celtics on Sunday night before things head back up to Boston.

The Philadelphia 76ers will get a chance at home to even their first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics on Sunday in Game 4.

The Celtics were able to reclaim the series lead on Friday, going up 2-1 after defeating the hosting Sixers in Game 3. It was a much closer affair though than Boston’s first win in this series — a 32-point victory in Game 1 — with Philadelphia putting up another valiant effort until simply faltering a bit too much at the end of the 108-100 contest.

Celtics, 76ers Game 4 injury reports: who’s in, who’s out

Joel Embiid (doubtful) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (questionable) are both on the 76ers injury report ahead of Game 3 vs the Celtics.

PHILADELPHIA — The Celtics will be at full strength when they face off against the 76ers in Game 4 on Sunday night in Philadelphia. The team shared a completely clean injury report, even though it appeared that Jaylen Brown and Derrick White both got banged up in Friday’s Game 3 Celtics win.

But, the 76ers continue to list Joel Embiid (post-appendectomy surgery recovery) as doubtful, while adding Kelly Oubre Jr (questionable with right adductor soreness) to the injury report.

White seemingly hurt his neck in the first minute of the ball game, while Brown turned his ankle in the fourth quarter. Neither player subbed out of the game, and both confirmed they were fine after the fact.

Of the 2200 passengers and crew aboard the Titanic, which set sail from Southampton bound for New York, just six were Australian.

But only one Australian born crew member, a young nurse from Adelaide, was among the 700 people to survive the sinking of the "unsinkable" vessel in the early hours of April 15, 1912.

Her name was Evelyn Marsden and while the story of the fateful ship has been retold countless times in the past 114 years, her tale was largely forgotten.

Macca's brings back discontinued menu item after 18-month absence

Macca's is bringing back its Korean Sticky BBQ sauce from April 15, after customer's demanded its return.

This follows an 18-month absence after the menu item was temporarily discontinued at the end of 2024.

The return of Korean Sticky BBQ sauce will be part of the fast food giant's new Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ range of burgers and snacks.

Koran Sticky BBQ sauce was originally released by McDonald's in 2024 alongside the Squid Game World Card promotion, before being discontinued at the end of the year.

Now the "most requested" menu item is back, as part of a new menu range. However this time Maccas has taken things one step further by releasing what it is describing as a "first-of-its-kind range".

McDonald's brings back one of Australia's 'most requested' items from 'secret menu' for new range

Macca's has brought back one of its "most requested" items after it was spotted at a handful of stores as part of a secret menu.

The fast food chain trialled the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McCrispy, the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McSpicy as well as the Korean Sticky BBQ Sauce in October last year.

It was seen at New South Wales stores such as Rockdale, Haberfield, Waterloo, Castle Hill, Auburn and Thornleigh, according to Frugal Feeds.

Fans couldn't get enough of it and begged the Golden Arches to make it a permanent part of its national menu.

Macca's has finally agreed, and the items will hit menus across the country later this week.

‘Dunked’ burgers and live dunks: Macca’s Korean Sticky BBQ is back

Macca’s is bringing Korean Sticky BBQ back to menus from April 15, this time as part of a new chicken range entitled Dunked.

The limited release introduces a shift in format, with the entire chicken fillet coated in sauce rather than finished with it, pushing a heavier, more saturated take on the chain’s existing chicken burgers.

Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McCrispy: Made with crispy 100% Aussie chicken breast, coated in Korean Sticky BBQ sauce, topped with lettuce and mayo, and served on a toasted potato bun.

Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McSpicy: Made with 100% Aussie chicken, coated in a slightly spicy Korean Sticky BBQ sauce, topped with lettuce and mayo, and served on a sesame seed bun.

Adam Back says he is not Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto

A British Bitcoin entrepreneur has told the BBC he is not the digital currency's mysterious inventor after a New York Times article named him as its creator.

Adam Back, a prominent Bitcoin developer, said the high-profile investigation was a case of "confirmation bias" and that he is not the person known as Satoshi Nakamoto.

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is one of the internet's most enduring mysteries and Back has been accused of being Satoshi many times before.

But Back told the BBC on X: "I'm not satoshi, but I was early in laser focus on the positive societal implications of cryptography, online privacy and electronic cash."

Sit back and let us take you on a journey to the Moon with Artemis II

On launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, billions of dollars' worth of rocket sits on the tarmac, ready to take off.

More than 50 years after our last visit, this is humankind's next moonshot. If all goes well for NASA's Artemis II mission, the astronauts on board could fly the furthest that humans have ever gone.

So how does the next generation's journey to the Moon compare to other famous space flights, and what should we be looking out for?

In the hours leading up to the launch, four astronauts are strapped into the crew module of the Orion spacecraft. You can think of this as the heart.

'Absolutely phenomenal': Astronauts in awe of Earth as they prepare for next phase of Moon mission

The Artemis II astronauts are "doing great" and the spacecraft is "performing well", Nasa chief Jared Isaacman says

The crew are currently orbiting the Earth before heading towards the Moon in a few hours – why are they going and what are they doing onboard now?

So what does our planet look like from space? See the crescent Earth from 70,000km up – and just how tiny the Moon looks from the astronauts' perspective

Looking down on Earth, mission specialist Christina Koch says: "You can actually make out the coastline of the continent, you can make out rivers because of the sun glare, you can see high thunder clouds"

Full report – Nasa’s Artemis II rocket lifts off for historic moon mission

Nasa launched Artemis II on a historic crewed mission to the moon.

The 10-day test flight, which will not land on the moon, is a mission packed with milestones. The mission includes the first woman and first person of color to fly into cislunar space, the area between Earth’s orbit and the moon.

Artemis II’s Orion space capsule could fly them farther from Earth than any human being before them.

Former Chicago mayor, former White House chief of staff and former ambassador Rahm Emanuel talks to Fox News Digital about a potential 2028 White House run.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Rahm Emanuel is shrugging off the Democratic Party's identity debate and emphasizing that the showdown for the Democrats' 2028 presidential nomination should be about ideas and not gender.

Democrats are already thinking demographics and if a ‘straight, white Christian man’ must be the pick in 2028

Some Democrats are mulling whether the party’s best chance at winning back the White House is to pick a “straight, white Christian man” in 2028 for the top of the ticket.

Having lost twice to Donald Trump with female candidates for president, Democratic strategists have echoed concerns voiced last year by former first lady Michelle Obama: America “is not ready for a woman.”

Behind closed doors, several Democratic strategists have bluntly said some form of, “It has to be a white guy,” according to Axios.

“There is a fear — and I actually don't think this is just a grass-tops fear, I think you'd hear it from voters, too — that a woman has now lost twice,” an unnamed Democratic strategist told the outlet. “So not discounting the hundreds of other times men have lost … but is it the right thing to nominate a woman?”

Some Dems' 2028 strategy: a straight, white, Christian man

Some top Democrats are quietly debating a fraught question: whether the party's best bet for winning back the presidency in 2028 is to nominate a man — perhaps a straight, white, Christian man.

The big picture: The Democratic Party takes pride in being a champion of women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and religious minorities. Electing Barack Obama, the nation's first Black president, was the high point for the party's goal of boosting diversity in the executive branch.

Driving the news: Most of these conversations have unfolded behind closed doors, but a striking number of Democrats have begun voicing their concerns more openly, exposing a larger debate within the party over electability.

Back in the game: The evolution of Danielle Spencer

It was the pandemic that sparked Danielle Spencer’s musical renaissance and her new album Regenerate is the result.

For Danielle Spencer, a return to music was not part of a carefully mapped comeback strategy. It began quietly, almost accidentally, during the strange pause of the pandemic years.

“I didn’t actually set out thinking I was writing an album,” Spencer explains on the line from her home in Sydney. “I just started writing again. We had all been a bit like prisoners during COVID, and I needed something that would wake me up creatively.”

What began as a few tentative songs eventually grew into Regenerate, Spencer’s first album in 16 years. The album marks a new chapter for the singer-songwriter best known for her 2002 debut White Monkey and its 2010 follow-up Calling All Magicians.

After a challenging few years, Australian singer-songwriter Danielle Spencer is finding her voice again – and this time, she’s letting the world hear it.

The musician and former wife of actor Russell Crowe has poured her heart into her most personal album to date, which she admits was created during a period when life felt very heavy.

“I tend to want to write songs if I’m feeling flat or struggling with things a bit,” Danielle, 56, reveals to Woman’s Day.

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

The surprise appearance of US Vogue chief Anna Wintour at the Oscars made the red carpet prelude to this year’s awards ceremony feel like the Met Gala.

There was no official theme, but Hollywood stylists joined forces and appeared to decide that feathers, florals and embellishment were compulsory attire. Here are the outfits that made fashion Christmas come early this year.

With Anne Hathaway presenting on stage alongside Wintour, you would think that The Devil Wears Prada actress would be a Christian Louboutin shoo-in for best dressed in her Valentino gown. Then along comes nominee Rose Byrne.

The 24 Best Dressed Stars From the 2026 Oscars

Awards season ended with a bang at the 2026 Oscars. Unsurprisingly, many Hollywood A-listers saved their best looks for last—arriving at the 98th Academy Awards in their finest formal attire. Would it be the Oscars without a little razzle-dazzle?

While traditional glamour certainly dominated the evening—think sharp suits and elegant gowns, two enduring mainstays on the Oscars red carpet—there were a few choices that felt just a little fresher, more modern, and not at all expected.

Naturally, many of the winning moments came from the best-actress nominees. Rose Byrne opted for traditional glamour in her black strapless Dior number by Jonathan Anderson, complete with delicate floral embroidery. (The look was based on a look from Anderson’s recent spring 2026 couture collection.) Jessie Buckley opted for color-blocking in Chanel, choosing a pink and red off-the-shoulder gown inspired by Grace Kelly that was both soft and romantic.
