Lily Allen Opens Up About Being In Therapy For Her Shopping And Spending Addiction

Lily Allen is sharing another deeply personal chapter of her life, revealing that she’s been in therapy for a shopping and spending addiction.

Speaking on the latest episode of her BBC podcast Miss Me? with longtime friend and co-host Miquita Oliver, the “Smile” singer revealed she’s been in therapy for what she described as a “spending addiction”.

“I actually did EMDR therapy yesterday on my spending,” she told Oliver. “And how it’s related to my sense of self-worth and we tried to separate the two. So let’s see how that goes.”

Allen went on to explain that she believes her urge to constantly spend stems from feelings of not deserving financial security. “I think I try and get rid of it [money] because I don’t think I deserve it,” she admitted.

Lily Allen Checks into Therapy for Spending Addiction

Following the success of her year-topping breakup album West End Girl, Lily Allen admits that she's "convinced [she's] a billionaire," and has enrolled in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for the past four months due to an apparent shopping addiction that she says resulted in the recent purchases of a £120,000 Porsche and a £16,500 Hermes bag.

"You've got to treat yourself and mark the moment. I'm convinced I'm a billionaire. Handbags have been bought, jewels and a car has been bought," the singer-songwriter shared during a Christmas episode of her Miss Me? podcast alongside Miquita Oliver.

She added, "I think I try and get rid of it (money) because I don't think I deserve it."

Lily Allen admitted to being a shopaholic: the singer is undergoing treatment for addiction

Music star Lily Allen made a surprising admission: she has started therapy for her shopping addiction. The 40-year-old singer revealed that she cannot restrain herself in her spending, buying designer bags and a Porsche worth £120,000.

After the success of her latest album, West End Girl, Lily shared that she decided to seek help as her purchases began to spiral out of control.

The problem of shopping addiction is quite common among celebrities, who often face pressure from society and the media. Lily's admission may be an important step not only for her but also for others facing similar challenges. It also underscores the need for open dialogue about mental health and addiction in today's world.

Timothée Chalamet Baffles Fans With His Take On Pivotal 'Love Actually' Plotline

While chatting with Love Actually stars Emma Thompson and Rowan Atkinson on The Graham Norton Show, Timothée Chalamet left fans—and Thompson—confused with his take on her and late co-star Alan Rickman's relationship in the film.

Morgan Ross is a writer, editor, and script doctor based in Washington, D.C. She received a B.A. in International Relations and Journalism from Mills College. Outside of writing, Morgan enjoys visiting museums, helping high school students achieve their dreams, and wrangling her two lovely cats, Roxie and Salem.

In 2003, Love Actually became a Christmas movie monolith. Directed by Richard Curtis and packed with a cast including Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, and approximately half of Britain, the film cemented itself as both a holiday comfort movie and a recurring source of fictional emotional torture.

Tyra Banks being sued for $2.8million in messy lawsuit over ice cream shop amid strife over Australia move and bizarre rant

Tyra Banks' Smize & Dream ice cream venture has turned into a nightmare.

Court documents exclusively obtained by the Daily Mail reveal the supermodel's former landlord has filed a $2.8 million lawsuit against her for breach of contract.

Christopher Powell alleged in the October 2025 complaint that Banks, 52, entered into a 10-year commercial lease to open an ice cream shop and 'learning center' at his Washington, DC, property but then 'abruptly' backed out and refused to pay the rent.

He has claimed Banks and her longtime partner, Louis Bélanger-Martin – who is also being sued – 'fabricated grievances to justify their breach' and that Banks 'weaponized her celebrity influence to deter' Powell from filing a lawsuit.

Tyra Banks sued for $2.8 million by landlord over ice cream shop lease

A Washington, D.C., landlord has filed a $2.8 million breach of contract lawsuit against Tyra Banks and her ice cream business, Smize & Dream.

In court documents obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Christopher Powell claims that he entered into a 10-year commercial lease in April 2024 with Banks, her nonprofit School of SMiZE, and partner Louis Martin that would see her open up an ice cream shop in his D.C. building. However, he claims that Banks suddenly terminated the lease that summer and is now refusing to pay rent.

Lawyers for Powell, Banks, and Martin did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
