ESSENDON interim coach Dean Solomon has labelled Carlton forward Harry McKay’s time-wasting efforts in the dying moments of the Bombers' five-point King’s Birthday Eve loss as "smart".

McKay took a mark 60m out from goal and signalled to the umpire that he was taking a shot, winding down the clock as he used his 30 seconds to prepare.

McKay's shot dropped 30m short of the goal line, highlighting that he was never in range.

Earlier, Jai Serong snapped a last-gasp major to earn Sydney a two-point win over St Kilda, after the Swans had trailed by as many as 33 points in the first half.

Essendon dominated the early stages of the game, and won only their second first quarter of the season, but the Blues surged back to level the scores at three quarter time before a dramatic final term.

Harry McKay lined up for a kick from goal well outside the distance and let the clock run down 42 seconds before kicking to the square. Essendon kicked a goal from Zach Reid with nine seconds left, but fell short to remain on one win for the year.

Bombshell report reveals Victory to sack Diles, former Matildas boss tipped for job

Melbourne Victory have reportedly made the stunning decision to relieve head coach Arthur Diles of his duties.

Japan's rugby board has suspended Eddie Jones over incidents of "verbal abuse" during an under-23 tour of Australia.

Jones was alleged to have levelled the abuse at match officials during the April tour.

Jones will be suspended as head coach until June 5, and will not be allowed to attend Japan's Test match against Italy on July 4.

Eddie Jones has been suspended from coaching Japan during its rugby union Test match against Italy in July after "incidences of verbal abuse" during a recent tour of Australia.

The Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) announced the disciplinary measures late on Wednesday after it found the Australian had breached the union's ethics and disciplinary regulations.

Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones says he “deeply regretted” his behaviour after being suspended for four matches and fined by the Japanese Rugby Football Union for abusing match officials during an under-23 tour of Australia last month.

The Japanese Rugby Football Union (JRFU) has reduced Jones’ lucrative salary and handed down a six-week suspension over what it described as “verbal abuse directed at local match officials”.

The 66-year-old will miss Japan’s opening Test of the upcoming Nations Championship tournament against Italy on July 4.

Jones will also be barred from involvement in two matches against Hong Kong on May 22 and 29, as well as a Japan XV fixture against the Maori All Blacks on June 27.

Japan have suspended their head coach, Eddie Jones, for four games and cut his salary for âverbal abuse directed at local officialsâ during a tour in Australia. Jones will miss Japanâs Nations Championship opener against Italy on 4 July, the fourth game of his ban.

The Japan Rugby Football Union said the 66-year-old Australian violated their ethics and disciplinary regulations during a Japan Under-23 tour in April. âThese measures relate to incidences of verbal abuse directed at local match officials,â it said.

âI accept the disciplinary action of the JRFU relating to the U23 Japan national team tour of Australia,â Jones said. âSome inappropriate remarks that I made caused discomfort to local match officials and other related parties.

Mike Wells has quit two years after replacing former coach Scott Ninnis.

The 36ers lost in the decisive game of the five-game NBL championship series last month.

Mike Wells has stepped down from his role as Adelaide 36ers head coach, a month after the basketball team lost the NBL championship series to the Sydney Kings in the fifth and deciding game.

Wells recently signed a contract extension for two more seasons, but said the decision to stand down came after a lot of reflection.

"I'm incredibly proud of what we've built in Adelaide over the past two seasons," he said.
