Proteas coach on national team’s depth

van Dyk dropped six players when she announced her final team for the Games set to take place from 23 July to 2 August.

The Proteas are in Pool A with England, Malawi, Uganda, Australia, Tonga, and Northern Ireland, and with the Africa Cup of Nations set to be played later this year, she insists that the depth in the selection pool would allow the players to rest and give others a chance throughout the year.

"We had a team meeting on Monday discussing the period we are moving into now, where we don't just have seven players and twelve players that will do the job for us. We want to create the depth we need so that we can use different players in different competitions seeing that the season is getting quite hectic especially with some players playing overseas. For the Africa Cup, we have a very different plan in mind and we have already set out a squad for that."

Commonwealth Bank shares have suffered their largest one-day fall on record, closing 10.4 per cent lower today.

The previous worst day for Australia's biggest bank was in March 2020, when the stock dropped 10 per cent in the early days of the pandemic.

CBA's major peers also came under pressure on the ASX, with Westpac (-2.8pc), ANZ (-1.6pc) and NAB (-1.5pc) shares all dropping.

Despite the heavyweight financial sector posting losses, the ASX 200 only ended the session half a per cent lower, as other sectors rose. 108 of the top 200 stocks made gains.

Commonwealth Games: Team uniforms for Australian athletes revealed

Australia’s Commonwealth Games stars will be suited and booted as they head to Glasgow, with each athlete to sport RM Williams boots as part of their team uniform.

The get-up for our Aussie athletes was revealed on Wednesday, with limited edition iconic boots the headline feature for the July event.

The usual green and gold will again be the hero colours for Australia, with dark green blazers featuring golden lining.

Aussie long jumper and hurdler Delta Amidzovski said she was thrilled to be donning the outfit for what will be her first Games at the age of just 19.

“It definitely represents much more than just putting on a piece of clothing,” she said.

R.M.Williams unveils Team Australia uniforms for the 2026 Commonwealth Games

As the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games begins, Team Australia will step onto the global stage wearing ceremonial and village uniforms designed by iconic Australian heritage brand R.M.Williams, in partnership with Commonwealth Games Australia.

Eight years after first designing uniforms for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, R.M.Williams continues its role as a legacy uniform partner to Commonwealth Games Australia, celebrating an ongoing commitment to Australian sport, craftsmanship and culture.

The ceremonial and village uniforms are distinctly Australian in look and spirit, drawing on the country’s green and gold sporting heritage, with Indigenous design elements woven through graphics and detailing. At their heart is a strong sense of unity, with artwork symbolising the athletes coming together as one team.

‘I’d pick her’: Aussie-born star ‘back to her best’ as England call-up looms for Comm Games

West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan says Sasha Glasgow has returned to her best and is backing her for selection in England’s Commonwealth Games team later this year.

The Australian-born Glasgow pledged her allegiance to England back in 2023 and went on to represent the Roses on nine occasions before injury derailed her international career.

From 'anger and hate' to feeling 'lighter', Jack is back to being herself

Shayna Jack says she is feeling "lighter" and more herself after anger and a sense of injustice fuelled her push for the Paris Olympics.

The 27-year-old claimed victory in the women's 50 metre freestyle at the Australian Open swimming championships on the Gold Coast yesterday, putting her in a strong position to fight for a spot at what will be her third Commonwealth Games at trials in June in Sydney.

However, she told reporters yesterday that reaching the Commonwealth Games would be a richer personal journey after she used the pain and anger at her two-year doping suspension to drive her to Paris — something which took its toll on the personable Queenslander.

CBA hits home loan borrowers with 30 basis point hike from tomorrow

Australia’s biggest bank, Commonwealth Bank, will hike both fixed and variable home loan interest rates for customers tomorrow. Lenders have been quick to announce they will pass on the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) cash rate hike in full, with fixed rates also continuing to climb in response to the hike and the possibility of more to come.

Commonwealth Bank has announced it will increase all of its fixed home loan products by 30 basis points on Friday. The hike will coincide with the bank’s 25 basis point increase to variable home loans.

"In response to broader funding and market conditions, we are updating our advertised fixed home loan rates for new lending, effective 27 March 2026,” a Commonwealth Bank spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.

The Commonwealth Bank reportedly suspects around A$1 billion in home loans were obtained fraudulently, including through AI-generated documents. The Australian Financial Review says the bank has reported itself to police and the corporate watchdog to investigate.

According to sources quoted in the newspaper, Australia’s largest bank discovered the suspected fraud last year, partly thanks to two whistleblowers. After rival bank NAB was allegedly defrauded of around $150 million, the Commonwealth Bank also reportedly began investigating its own loans. Its Australian home loans alone are worth around $634 billion.

Big four banks find themselves embroiled in loan fraud probe

Police suspect that just one criminal network has defrauded all four of the country’s major banks by at least $300 million amid growing concerns that the washing of illicit funds through real estate is a systemic problem.

Westpac and ANZ have reported suspected fraud in their loan books to NSW Police, joining National Australia Bank and Commonwealth Bank, which have been working to assess the scale of the potential wrongdoing.
