    Doctors' union concerned by nurses' behaviour at SA health service

    South Australia's doctors' union says it is concerned "patient care is being jeopardised" because of alleged behavioural problems at the Gawler Health Service.

    The nurses' union says it has has not identified any evidence "indicating systemic bullying by nursing staff".

    The Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network, which covers the Gawler Health Service, says it is investing in steps to support employees and strengthen workplace culture.

    A patient's clinical care plan was allegedly blocked by a health service manager against the advice of specialists at a facility north of Adelaide, a report by the South Australian doctors' union claims.

    Doctors’ union flags conduct concerns at Gawler Health Service

    According to ABC News, South Australia’s doctors’ union has raised concerns that alleged behavioural problems at Gawler Health Service could jeopardise patient care. The SA Salaried Medical Officers Association (SASMOA) submitted a report to SafeWork SA detailing concerns about workplace culture, including allegations of bullying, harassment and disrespectful behaviour by some nursing staff.

    The report stressed that not all nursing staff were accused of the conduct. It said doctors had been left anxious and distressed, with concerns about professional liability and patient care. Among the incidents described was an allegation that a nurse snatched a mobile computer station from a doctor during a patient admission. The report also said the possible demotion of a senior doctor was openly discussed with colleagues without that doctor’s knowledge or consent.

    RBA governor Michele Bullock says the war in the Middle East is creating a "highly uncertain" environment that could see inflation rising even higher than anticipated.

    But she is not concerned about stagflation occurring in Australia, nor a wage-price spiral.

    The RBA Board's next two-day monetary policy meeting will be held on June 15 and 16.

    Reserve Bank governor Michele Bullock believes the country will avoid a recession even if oil prices continue to climb, while rejecting even the notion that Australia is facing a period of stagflation.

    On a day that US President Donald Trump warned that the Strait of Hormuz could remain closed until September, the governor used a Senate committee hearing to argue that despite the economic headwinds caused by the war, the economy was still likely to grow over the coming years.

    The war has delivered a global shock to growth and inflation, with central banks around the world either lifting interest rates or signalling their intentions to tighten monetary policy. The Reserve Bank itself has lifted interest rates three times this year, although financial markets believe it will not move at its June and August meetings.
