'Sketchy' conditions blur Bathurst pecking order

The Supercars field was met with “sketchy” track conditions at Mount Panorama, with a dicey first day of action muddying the competitive order ahead of Friday qualifying.

While Jarrod Hughes’ off at Hell Corner in Practice 1 was the only genuine incident, several drivers had moments they may look back on, and count themselves lucky.

A dry lead-in to the race weekend translated into plenty of dust sitting offline, with dust and sand being brought onto the track across a busy day of categories.

Prior to Practice 2, which was for co-drivers only, Ayrton Hodson crashed heavily in final DUNLOP Super2 Series practice.

The journey to the Great Race has begun, with Thursday’s uneventful Supercars practice hampered by complaints over the Bathurst track surface.

But the biggest moment of the day would come late as Victorian teen Jake Santalucia was lucky to walk away from a horror smash that saw Porsche Carerra Cup qualifying red flagged.

Santalucia had already secured pole but was still flying down the mountain when he lost control, hit the wall and became airborne before slamming into the concrete on the opposite wall.

Supercars news: Teams dealt brake curveball at Bathurst 1000

Drivers complained of poor braking performance from early in the first session, leaving teams to switch between pads, bleed hydraulic systems and even adjust pedal positions.

Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton told Speedcafe that the culprit appeared to be the latest batches of pads.

“We’re still trying to work it out,” Dutton told Speedcafe following Practice 2.

“There’s two different batches of pads that you can race on, so we’re trying to ascertain; is there a difference, what is that difference, and what is the feel of those?

“Your braking can affect the handling of the car, so you’ve got to be mindful that you’re setting the car up with representative pads.

TicketNetwork Targets Resale Conditions in DOJ’s Live Nation-Ticketmaster Settlement

Home » TicketNetwork Targets Resale Conditions in DOJ’s Live Nation-Ticketmaster Settlement

TicketNetwork is urging a federal court to strengthen the Justice Department’s proposed Live Nation-Ticketmaster antitrust settlement, targeting provisions that could make a rival’s access to new primary-ticketing opportunities depend partly on how it operates its separate resale business.

In Tunney Act comments submitted Sept. 4, TicketNetwork argues that the settlement takes an important step by recognizing that Ticketmaster’s consumer-facing marketplace can be separated from the back-end technology that creates, manages and validates tickets. But the company says the proposed rules could still leave Ticketmaster controlling which competitors can use that infrastructure and under what conditions.

Following a series of legal proceedings against Live Nation and Ticketmaster, the music industry is closely watching what comes next.

While the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reached a tentative settlement earlier this year, 33 state attorneys general proceeded to trial and secured a jury verdict in April 2026 finding Live Nation operated as an illegal monopoly. Other legal actions are also coming to a head.

Here is a breakdown of what happens next across the federal settlement, the state-led breakup trial, and ongoing consumer litigations.

The public comment period for the settlement between Live Nation and the Department of Justice closed Sept. 4 and there was a last-minute flurry of objections to the deal from Live Nation and Ticketmaster competitors and long-time opponents.

The public comment period is required by the Tunney Act, the Nixon-era legislation designed to give judicial oversight to antitrust settlements and prevent corruption. Under that law, U.S. District Judge Arun Subrmanian must approve the agreement. He has said he’s likely to make his decision on the settlement between mid-September and mid-October.

NIVA Calls for Ticketmaster Breakup, 50% Cap on Live Nation Tour Control

Home » NIVA Calls for Ticketmaster Breakup, 50% Cap on Live Nation Tour Control

The National Independent Venue Association is urging a federal court to reject the Justice Department’s proposed Live Nation settlement unless it is substantially rewritten to include structural remedies, including a breakup of Live Nation and Ticketmaster and a new rule barring Live Nation from promoting more than half of any major artist’s U.S. tour.

NIVA’s formal Tunney Act comments, submitted Sept. 4, go considerably further than simply criticizing the behavioral restrictions negotiated between Live Nation and the Justice Department. The independent venue trade group argues that meaningful competition cannot return without attacking Live Nation’s control over entire tours, separating Ticketmaster from the concert promoter, divesting Live Nation-controlled artist management businesses and directing financial relief toward independent stages harmed by the company’s market power.
