Bulls vs Hornets injury report: Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, LaMelo Ball, and more

It’s been almost a week since the Chicago Bulls last took the court—a 123–91 loss to a shorthanded Golden State Warriors team. But like their opponent, Chicago wasn’t fully healthy heading into the matchup either.

Against Golden State, Chicago was without Kevin Huerter, Tre Jones, Isaac Okoro, and Jalen Smith. After five days of rest, three of those four are set to return. Jones, Okoro, and Smith will rejoin Billy Donovan’s rotation after absences of three, eight, and five games, respectively.

Huerter is the only Bull, aside from Noa Essengue, who will miss a second straight game due to injury. He suffered an adductor strain just six minutes into the December 1 matchup against the Orlando Magic. The 6-foot-7 wing didn’t travel with the team to Charlotte, joining Ayo Dosunmu as one of the players who remained in Chicago.

John Lennon was killed 45 years ago today. America learned about it from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football.

Millions of Americans were watching the Patriots and Dolphins on “Monday Night Football,” a humdrum game between two mediocre teams, when Howard Cosell delivered the news that still feels shocking 45 years later.

“Remember, this is just a football game, no matter who wins or loses,” Cosell said in his distinctive staccato just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 8, 1980. “John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the West Side of New York City — the most famous, perhaps, of all the Beatles — shot twice in the back, rushed to Roosevelt Hospital, dead on arrival.”

It was an indelible TV moment, much like Walter Cronkite’s trembly, on-the-verge-of-tears announcement in 1963 that President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated in Dallas. Lennon, the world soon learned, had been shot four times in the back as he and wife Yoko Ono were walking into the Dakota, the historic Manhattan co-op where the couple lived with their 5-year-old son, Sean. (The killer, Mark David Chapman, is still in prison.)

“One of the nurses said, ‘John Lennon.’ I thought, What does John Lennon have to do with it?” A surgeon remembers the night he tried to save the former Beatle’s life

Frank Veteran was on call the night Lennon was shot. He was the last doctor to attend to the slain Beatle

In 1980, Frank Veteran was a resident in surgery at Roosevelt Hospital on New York City’s west side. At 30 years old, he was in his fifth and final year of surgical training Between the pressures of medical school and his job, he’d had little time to keep up with current events, let alone the comings and goings of his childhood heroes.
