How daylight saving leaves one Australian border town operating on two different clocks

SBS acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country and their connections and continuous care for the skies, lands and waterways throughout Australia.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, daylight saving kicks in for the long Australian summer, when clocks skip forward by an hour from 2am to 3am.

But while the citizens of NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the ACT will enjoy an extra hour of sunshine after clocking off, Queensland remains the eastern seaboard outlier.

Daylight saving is an annual talking point on the Gold Coast, with Mayor Tom Tate on Wednesday reiterating calls for daylight saving to be introduced in Queensland's southeast corner.

When does daylight saving time end? Here's when to 'fall back' in Seattle

SEATTLE – Much of the U.S. will soon shift their clocks back an hour to mark the end of daylight saving time. It comes after many had moved an hour forward in the spring.

While most associate daylight saving time with getting an extra hour of sleep, it also means the sun will set earlier, often before 5 p.m. in Washington.

Daylight saving time is the period between spring and fall when clocks are set one hour ahead of standard time to make better use of daylight. Each year, it begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

Adelaide skips an hour this weekend as Australia splits into five time zones

Late dinners, beach walks and after-work drinks are about to get a little brighter, with daylight saving returning to South Australia this Sunday.

The season of late sunsets, after-work beach trips and squeezing a little more into the evening is almost here.

Daylight saving returns to South Australia this weekend, with clocks moving forward one hour at 2am on Sunday, October 4, jumping straight to 3am.

And while it means losing an hour of sleep overnight, for most of us, the trade-off of welcoming back those warm Adelaide evenings is well worth the sacrifice.

From Sunday, sunset in Adelaide will suddenly shift to around 7:20pm, giving locals more daylight for everything from coastal walks, backyard barbecues and midweek catch-ups that no longer feel like they are happening after dark.

Businesses and residents want state to revisit daylight saving

A debate as old as time has resurfaced in Queensland as business groups and individuals fresh attempts to bring daylight saving to the Sunshine State, or at least to its south-eastern corner.

But the Queensland government has quashed calls for another referendum on the topic, despite thousands signing petitions to revisit the perennial debate and businesses saying productivity is being undermined without it.

Disrupt 2026: OpenAI, Anthropic, Replit, and more take over 6 industry stages. 25% off tickets now

The two most noticeable things about macOS 27 Golden Gate are the newly updated Siri AI and the design changes that make windows and icons more consistent. Siri AI offers the same features and capabilities as on iOS 27, but the Mac gives it access to different context — and new ways to be useful.

Over the last few years, apps and browsers have tried to learn more about your work and what you want to use AI assistants for, so they can better answer your questions or perform tasks. Today, many top web browsers, excluding Safari, come with a sidebar-based AI assistant that can look at one or multiple open tabs to provide contextual answers. Apps like Highlight, Caddy, and Littlebird can also look at your current window, then use that information as context for your queries.

iOS 27 is here. See new features, list of compatible devices

Apple debuted its latest software update, iOS 27, on Monday, Sept. 14. The update rolls out Siri AI, a revamped version of the personal assistant with expanded AI capabilities.

iOS 27 comes days after Apple announced the highly anticipated iPhone Duo, the tech giant's first foldable smartphone. Starting at $1,999, the iPhone Duo folds like a book and has two displays so apps, web browsers and home screen pages can run side by side. The smartphone will be available for pre-order on Oct. 16 and available in stores on Oct. 23.

Interested in updating your iPhone? Here's what to know about iOS 27.

Why does the US want to ‘dismantle’ the international criminal court? | Kenneth Roth

Marco Rubio has offered nonsensical rationale in attacking the court. The Trump administration’s real goal is impunity

With the pointless war of choice in Iran going poorly, the Trump administration has declared a virtual war on the international criminal court (ICC). Secretary of state, Marco Rubio, vowed on Monday to “dismantle” the court as a supposed threat to US sovereignty. His rationale is laced with sophistry. The administration’s real goal is to secure impunity for war crimes, even those committed on the territory of ICC member states.

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed and a video posted on X, Rubio conjures up a dystopia in which local American officials such as police officers or border patrol agents “could be dragged before an international court, tried by judges from random countries across the globe, found guilty under international laws we neither consent to nor control, and then imprisoned thousands of miles from America”.

Lawyers condemn US campaign against ICC

Human rights organisations and international law experts are condemning the US administration's pledge to dismantle the International Criminal Court.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio has described the ICC as an intolerable threat to US sovereignty and vowed to dismantle it brick by brick if necessary.

The Trump administration wants to dismantle the International Criminal Court. Can it?

On Monday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote a blistering missive in the Wall Street Journal unveiling plans to dismantle the International Criminal Court (ICC). He claimed it threatened “US soldiers, police officers, Border Patrol agents and elected leaders” under international laws that “we neither consent to nor control”.

The State Department then unveiled the steps it would take to target the court, which include pressuring allies to resist ICC attempts to prosecute Americans, travel bans on ICC officials, and increased sanctions on the court.

The State Department called the court an “intolerable threat to US sovereignty”.

But Rubio’s claims show a wilful ignorance of international law, out of step with someone of his office.

Why does Egypt have players named Ziko and Trezeguet? The story behind the World Cup nicknames

Egypt have remained one of the most competitive national teams in Africa. Led by Mohamed Salah, they have managed to be protagonists, reaching the final stages of the African Cup of Nations. Although their main star is already 34 years old, they still maintain numerous talents in their squad. However, several of them have well-known names such as Ziko or Trezeguet, clearly reflecting their influence from soccer powerhouses in their development.

In the 2026 World Cup roster of Hossam Hassan, Mahmoud Hassan, Trézéguet, Nabil Emad Dunga, and Mostafa Zaki Abdelraouf (Ziko) are an essential part of Egypt’s project. Their names are reminiscent of the legends David Trézéguet, Carlos Caetano Bledorn (Dunga), and Arthur Antunes Coimbra (Zico). However, none of the Egyptian stars officially carry these surnames in their names, so these are presented as a tribute.

World Cup 2026: Mohamed Salah's World Cup nightmare is over as he fires Egypt to history

Mohamed Salah's – and Egypt's – World Cup wait is finally over.

The Egyptian King's match-winning second-half display against New Zealand helped the Pharaohs to their first-ever World Cup win, at their ninth attempt, and leaves them on the brink of qualifying for the last 32.

Salah's 67th-minute goal gave Egypt the lead – after they recovered from a shock early New Zealand opener – before his corner was headed home by Trezeguet to seal the historic 3-1 win.

Salah had made a slow start to the tournament, with an ineffectual display in their opening draw with Belgium followed up by a quiet opening half against the Kiwis.
