Qantas slashes WA fares in massive blockbuster sale

Travellers have been offered a major airfare bonanza, with Qantas slashing the price of flights across Australia and WA as part of its biggest domestic sale of the year.

More than two million discounted economy and business seats have gone on sale across 101 routes and 60 destinations, with fares available for travel through to August 2027.

For West Australians looking to escape the State, return flights can be snapped up with one-way fares from $249 to Darwin, $279 to Adelaide and $299 to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

There are also bargain fares within WA, with Perth to Geraldton flights starting at $169, while Perth to Broome is available from $249.

Panthers champion Nathan Cleary has provided a huge update on his playing future, all but ruling out a potential move to the New Zealand Warriors because of fears he could block the path of his little brother, Jett.

What Cleary does beyond the 2027 season – and even if he is prepared to head to the open market on November 1 – has become one of rugby league’s biggest storylines.

The Warriors, where Cleary’s father Ivan coached and played, has been one rival club regularly linked to the halfback, along with the cashed-up PNG Chiefs and their tax exemptions.

Buyer drops nearly $72m on one of world's most complete T-rex skeletons

A T-rex skeleton has been sold for millions at an auction in New York. (Supplied: Sotheby's)

A Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton nicknamed "Gus" has become the most expensive fossil to be sold at auction.

The skeleton measures 11.6 metres long and is made up of 183 fossilised bones, making it one of the largest and most complete tyrannosaurs discovered.

Palaeontologists have raised concerns over the surging market for dinosaur bones putting valuable specimens into private hands.

A Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton nicknamed "Gus" has become the most valuable dinosaur fossil bought at auction.

The fossil, discovered on a South Dakota cattle ranch in 2021, sold for $US50.1 million ($71.8m) after a 10-minute battle between seven bidders at Sotheby's, New York.

Tyrannosaurus Rex most expensive dinosaur ever sold

A 67 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex has been sold for £37.4m ($50.1m) at a Sotheby's auction in New York – the most ever paid for a dinosaur.

The fossil of this infamous predator stands more than 12 feet (4m) tall, and with over 60% of its bones recovered is one of "the most complete" specimens ever found, according to Sotheby's.

The winning bidder at the sale on Tuesday has not yet been disclosed.

Gus, as the T. rex has been affectionately named, was discovered in 2021 on a remote ranch in the US State of South Dakota.

"This result has been years in the making," said Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby's worldwide head of science and natural history.

Recently we reported on comments from PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino who offered a diplomatic statement on the company's position with regards to multi-platform releases, stating:

“Our current main policy is that, for single-player games developed in-house, we will further refine the value of the gaming experience that PlayStation can offer. At the same time, we believe it is important for live-service games to reach a wider audience through online multiplayer, so we continue to view releases on both PS5 and PC as the standard.”

Power bills set to fall despite Iran uncertainty

Homes and businesses will start feeling immediate relief from rising electricity bills within weeks after regulators locked in price cuts for consumers across the eastern seaboard.

The Australian Energy Regulator on Tuesday said it would reduce the maximum rates that retailers can charge customers on standard electricity plans, known as default market offers, from July 1.

The default price cuts – up to 5 per cent ($137) in parts of NSW and 7 per cent ($155) in south-east Queensland – mark the steepest cuts since 2022, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine pushed up the cost of energy and triggered double-digit power bill rises. Prices will rise 1.5 per cent in South Australia.
