Exclusive: Beach Ball Guy Breaks Silence — “It Went Dark. I Was Scared.”

But nobody expected one of the most talked-about moments of the festival to be Manson tearing into a single fan over a beach ball.

In fan-shot clips that ripped around the internet, Manson pauses the set, locks onto one guy in the crowd and unloads: mocking him for “your big f***ing ball”, calling him a douchebag and hinting she could get crew – or the crowd – to “mess him up”. At first it played like sharp stage banter. Then it turned dark.

The man on the other end of it isn’t a pest trying to ruin everyone’s night. He’s Ben O’Brien, known to his mates as “Gig Pig” – a lifer who’s built his adult life around festivals and has been a fan of Garbage for nearly 30 years.

Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson had sharp words for disrespectful behaviour at Good Things Festival, calling out a festivalgoer who repeatedly threw beach balls during the band’s Melbourne set on Dec. 5.

“Big guy with your big f–kin’ beach ball,” Manson said from the stage. “What a f–kin’ douchebag… You’re a f–kin’ middle-aged man in a f–kin’ ridiculous hat, and you’re a f–kin’ f–kface. I want, literally, to ask people to f–kin’ punch you in the f–kin’ face. But you know what? I’m a lady, so I won’t.”

Shirley Manson has come under fire after she raged at a fan in the crowd during her set in Melbourne on Friday at the Good Things Festival.

The Garbage frontwoman, 59, was seen unleashing onstage after an apparent incident with a beach ball, calling out one particular male fan in the crowd.

A video the Scottish musician shared to her Instagram page showed her saying: 'Big man with your big f***ing beach ball. Oh I'm so scared of you, so thrilled by you.'

'What a f***ing douche bag,' she finished addressing the man in the audience before signalling for her band to start playing once more.

Following her recent appointment as global brand ambassador for the Roman house, Johnson is among a cast that includes Marisa Berenson, Tate McRae, Dev Hynes, Anne Imhof and Devon Teuscher.

Dakota Johnson is seen busy on the phone as she fronts her first advertising campaign for Valentino, which will be released Thursday.

There’s a good chance Johnson is talking to creative director Alessandro Michele, who wanted his longtime friend and supporter since his Gucci era to follow him to Valentino. The Roman house named the Hollywood actress a global brand ambassador last month.

“Nothing brings me more joy than collaborating with people I love, admire and respect,” Johnson told WWD. “I am so grateful and happy to join the Valentino family. Alessandro is one of the most inspiring people I know, and I’m honored to be with him again.”

This month, the maison presents its Cruise 2026 campaign, titled “Nocturne,” directed by American photographer Renell Medrano under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele. Global stars Dev Hynes, Anne Imhof, Dakota Johnson, Tate McRae and Devon Teuscher star in the cinematic effort from Valentino Garavani.
