Rana, Arshdeep shine as India rally to limit Ireland to 182 in T20I series opener

Ireland scripted history by registering their first-ever win over India, handing the visitors a 34-run defeat in the first T20I in Belfast after posting a competitive 182 batting first.

Immaculate Ireland bowlers gnawed on Indian batters' impatience on a rather pacy pitch with exemplary lengths, etching a historic 34-run victory in the first T20I match in Belfast on Friday.

It was Ireland's first-ever victory over reigning T20 world champions India in any format, and the hosts have now taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Chasing 183 on a pitch that had enough assistance for quick bowlers was not improbable but needed a different, pragmatic approach after power play.

ST KILDA and the Western Bulldogs close the round on Sunday in a match with potentials finals implications.

St Kilda snapped a three-match losing streak in games all against top-four contenders when beating GWS in a tight tussle for the second time this year.

The Saints are still to claim the big scalp this year that would go a long way to proving their finals credentials but are well placed for the run home with all of their remaining games to be played in their home state.

Western Bulldogs slipped out of the top six when their run of three thrilling victories on the trot was abruptly ended when they failed to turn up at home against Adelaide and were blown away in the opening term.

The Saints (6-8, 102.4%) have one more shot at adding to their win tally before their mid-season bye, and will be boosted by the return of gun small forward Jack Higgins from a nagging knee injury.

International students face a double financial blow

Jolie Cao says she works two casual jobs to help fund her life in Australia. (ABC News: Sally Brooks)

When Jolie Cao chose to do her undergraduate university degree in Australia, she knew it would be expensive.

So she saved up for her move to Melbourne in 2024, and now works two casual jobs while studying full-time at RMIT University.

Even though her parents in Vietnam help cover some of the costs, including paying tuition fees for her Bachelor of Design (Digital Media) degree, she has been facing growing cost-of-living pressures this year.

The weakening of the Vietnamese dong against the Australian dollar over the past five months, combined with rising inflation here, means she is looking to take on more shifts to make ends meet.

International students again in the spotlight as One Nation announces new policy

International students who drop out of their courses would be barred from appealing to the Australian Review Tribunal and required to leave Australia before applying for further study under a new policy announced by One Nation.

The proposal, announced by One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson, is aimed at what the party describes as widespread abuse of student visas through course-hopping, bridging visas and protection visa applications.

In a media release issued this week, Hanson argued that some international students had “no intention to study” and were instead using the visa system to remain in Australia for work and economic opportunities.

Live: Leaders Fremantle face North in Bunbury ahead of vital Q-Clash

The Kangaroos head west to face the Dockers in Bunbury before the Suns try to put another dent in the Lions' flag hopes in the Q-Clash.

Fremantle are looking to add to a club-record winning streak of 11 games as they take on North at Docklands.

Later, the spotlight will be on back-to-back premiers Brisbane, as they head down the highway to meet the Suns at Carrara.

Tonight the focus switches to Perth, where West Coast will play Port Adelaide.

I'm running out of ways to say the Dockers are playing well at Bunbury.

They have so many ways to score. The turnover is the main one, but then they just scored one from a forward 50 stoppage, where Mason Cox just casually flicked it down into the path of Hayden Young, who completed a set move by snapping from the top of the square.

Roos eye Bunbury upset against red-hot Dockers. LIVE from 12.15pm AWST

NORTH Melbourne begins its WA sojourn with a 'home' game against Fremantle at Hands Oval in Bunbury.

The Roos might still be riding the high from their second-biggest comeback victory in club history when they stunned Gold Coast before heading into a bye.

The Kangaroos need to draw on all that momentum as they head to their home away from home to host the red-hot Dockers, but a strong performance would help lay the foundations for a long stretch of more winnable games to come.

Fremantle rubber-stamped its status as the team to beat at the halfway mark of the season as it outclassed and outpaced the two-time reigning premiers while playing on Brisbane's home deck.

North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson has challenged his players to become road warriors as the club attempts to become a "fair dinkum" premiership challenger.

The Kangaroos have turned Marvel Stadium into somewhat of a fortress this year, winning five of their six games at the venue.

But it's been a different story on the road, with North nursing a 0-5 record away from Marvel this season.

Motorists face wait to find out fix for Great Western Highway

Motorists severely disrupted by the closure of a critical motorway over the Blue Mountains will have to wait up to six weeks to find out the engineering fix and how long it will take to complete.

A stretch of the Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass has been closed indefinitely since March 9 after engineers found serious cracking and ground movement in a stone causeway built by convicts nearly 200 years ago. The road defects and bulging of sandstone walls risked the causeway collapsing.

After more than 20 companies were briefed late last month, two consortia led by contractors Seymour Whyte and Gamuda have been shortlisted to develop solutions for the closed section of the highway by the end of June.

Cracking has appeared on the Victoria Pass detour route as Transport for NSW (TfNSW) works to keep traffic flowing between the Central West and Sydney.

According to a TfNSW spokesperson, wet weather caused minor pavement cracking on the Bells Line of Road at Mount Tomah but did not require immediate action.

"Safety is our first priority. A slope risk assessment was undertaken and, at the time of detection, it was determined the road was safe and did not require immediate intervention," the spokesperson said.

Israeli Defence Forces volunteer to face court over alleged western Sydney assault

Jihad El Cheikh was sitting with his wife sipping his coffee at the food court in Stocklands Merrylands when he was allegedly slapped in the back of the head by an Israeli Defence Force volunteer.

El Cheikh had spotted a man in a pro-Israel shirt in the food court and, after trading some words on the conflict in Palestine, was allegedly slapped and shoved before a crowd intervened.

Since then, El Cheikh, who lives in Merrylands, says he and his family no longer feel safe as Arab-Australians, as Muslims and as supporters of Palestine.

“This kind of happened in our backyard, and we don’t feel safe. We feel that something like this could happen at any time.”

The 44-year-old pop star has been released on bail and will be arraigned on Monday local time.

Britney Spears charged in California with driving under influence

Prosecutors in California have filed a criminal charge against Britney Spears over her arrest last month for allegedly driving under the influence.

The pop star is facing one misdemeanour count of driving under the influence of any alcohol and drug. She was arrested on 4 March on a southern California highway after driving her BMW "erratically at a high rate of speed", authorities said.

Spears, 44, reportedly checked herself into a rehabilitation treatment facility afterwards. Her representatives have called the incident "completely inexcusable".

Her court arraignment is scheduled for next Monday morning, though she is not required to attend in person as it is a minor charge.

Yankees Face Promotion Dilemma Regarding Prospect Spencer Jones

The New York Yankees are considering the promotion of top prospect Spencer Jones to the major league roster following a strong start to the 2026 season for the American League leaders. Despite the team's six-game winning streak as of April 24, 2026, analysts remain divided on whether the 24-year-old outfielder is ready for the big leagues.

Jones, a 6-foot-7 left-handed hitter, has struggled with high strikeout numbers in Triple-A this season, recording 35 strikeouts in 94 plate appearances. While he maintains a .231 batting average with five home runs and 24 RBI, his 37.2 percent strikeout rate has become a primary concern for the organization's front office.

MLB.com writer Jason Catania suggested that the Yankees should integrate the former first-round pick into the lineup immediately to test his elite power against major league pitching. He proposed a specialized role for the prospect to maximize his effectiveness against specific pitching matchups.

New York Yankees Get Bold Spencer Jones Prediction Before Astros Series

The New York Yankees are off to the best start in the American League. New York just swept the Boston Red Sox in a three-game set, has won six in a row, and is set to take on the Houston Astros in a weekend series, which should be exciting.

Given the recent success, that gives the Yankees some added luxury with roster moves and player updates. One thing that’s on every Yankees fan’s mind is when will top prospect Spencer Jones get his shot in MLB?

Yankees Urged to Make Questionable Spencer Jones Decision

New York Yankees prospect Spencer Jones lit it up in Spring Training, smashing towering home runs and posting a 1.526 OPS that had Yankees fans salivating.

Many wanted New York to promote Jones to the big leagues to begin the season, but with Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge taking up the three starting outfield spots, that was never going to happen.

Plus, it seemed like the Yankees still wanted the strikeout-prone Jones to get some more seasoning in Triple-A.

Thus far in 2026, Jones is slashing .231/.351/.500 with five homers and 24 RBI over 94 plate appearances. The power is still clearly there, as is Jones' ability to take walks. But he has also fanned 35 times, good for a whopping 37.2 percent strikeout rate.

Europe could face fuel shortage by April as Iran throttles supplies, says Shell boss | Energy industry

Wael Sawan warns of pressure on diesel and petrol if strait of Hormuz does not reopen to oil and gas shipping

Europe could face a shortage of energy and fuel as soon as next month without a reopening of the strait of Hormuz, Shell’s chief executive has said.

The boss of Europe’s biggest oil company said it was working with governments to help them address the oil and gas supply crisis, which has already led to energy rationing in Asian countries.

Oil prices dipped back to about $100 a barrel on Wednesday from highs of about $114 at the start of the week, on the back of reports that the White House had sent a 15-point peace plan to Iran’s leaders.

Shell Warns of European Energy Shortages by April 2026 | Supply Crisis – News and Statistics

We use cookies to improve your experience and for marketing. Read our cookie policy or manage cookies.

The chief executive of Shell has warned that Europe could experience energy shortages before the end of April. He indicated that jet fuel supply has already tightened, with a potential diesel squeeze and tighter gasoline supply to follow as the continent approaches its peak summer demand period.

The executive explained that supply pressures initially affected South Asia before moving to Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and increasingly into Europe. He emphasized that energy security is a fundamental component of national security. Europe's current difficulty stems from a lack of preparedness for global developments, leaving the region in a reactive position rather than building long-term resilience.
