Family of seven's home left uninhabitable as insurer worsens damage

A family of seven are living in an overcrowded caravan and shed after insurance provider Suncorp exacerbated damage to their home.
What started as a leaking toilet has turned into a mould disaster after proper remediation was delayed for months.
The Balzan family's five children, including a one-year-old girl, have not slept in their bedrooms since October and have no indication of when the rectifications will start.
"Ten months into this claim and we're still living like this, and we have uncertainty because we've never been told of when or how long this claim would take," said the father, John Balzan.
Suncorp delays leave Queensland family displaced
According to ABC News, the Balzan family of seven has been living in a caravan and shed after a toilet leak at their Wurdong Heights home in rural Queensland developed into a mould disaster during delays in their Suncorp insurance claim.
The leak in September last year spread sewage water through multiple rooms. The family notified Suncorp immediately and the insurer estimated remediation would be completed by the end of October. But repair work did not properly begin for months, while mould grew through the home and its contents. The family’s five children, including a one-year-old daughter, have not slept in their bedrooms since October last year.
