Emotional Hamilton says maiden Ferrari win is ‘something I’ll never forget’

Having just overtaken Mercedes team mate George Russell, Kimi Antonelli was forced to retire in Barcelona.

Kimi Antonelli admits feeling "a bit empty" after a late mechanical issue denied the Mercedes driver from claiming a podium in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The 19-year-old was on course to finish second in Sunday's 66-lap race behind race winner Lewis Hamilton, Antonelli having overtaken Mercedes team mate George Russell in the closing stages at Turn 1.

But having just moved ahead of Russell, Antonelli's Mercedes came to a halt out on track, bringing the Italian's run of five Grand Prix victories to an end and registering his first retirement of the season.

‘It doesn’t feel right’: Simpson says Carlton coaching job is not for him

West Coast premiership coach Adam Simpson, a part-time coaching consultant at Carlton, has officially ruled himself out of contention to be the Blues’ next senior coach.

A week after Simpson refused to declare if he wanted to coach Carlton, indicating that the circumstances of Michael Voss’ departure meant it was too soon to put his hand up, he has put a line through his own name and said: “It doesn’t feel right.”

The 2018 premiership coach and veteran of more than 300 AFL matches as a player with North Melbourne said he had “a very brief” conversation about the role with Carlton’s hierarchy, but the talks didn’t advance far.

Former Waalitij Marawar (West Coast) Eagles coach Adam Simpson rules himself out of Carlton consideration

Former West Coast coach Adam Simpson says he isn’t interested in taking the coaching role at Carlton despite the club reaching out to him.

Michael Voss called time on his tenure at the club last week, after the Blues’ diabolical start to the season left them sitting 16th with only two wins, one of which came after the former coach left.

Simpson has been out of the coaching box since departing the Eagles, who are known as Waalitij Marawar for Sir Doug Nicholls round, at the end of 2024.

However, the premiership-winning coach said he won’t be entering the race for the role.

Blow for Carlton as premiership-winning AFL coach rules himself out of race for Blues job

One massive name has withdrawn from contention to be Carlton’s next head AFL coach after Adam Simpson ruled himself out on Wednesday night. The West Coast premiership winner had his name thrown in the ring when Michael Voss stepped down as Carlton coach earlier this month.

Along with John Longmire, Simon Goodwin, Nathan Buckley and Paul Roos, there’s plenty of experienced coaches who could potentially be available. But Simpson revealed on Wednesday night that he’s “politely declined” after being contacted by Carlton.

Simpson, who led the Eagles to the AFL flag in 2018, has been working as a part-time coaching consultant at the Blues. “I’m not going to put my hand up for any type of role with Carlton, from a coaching point of view,” Simpson said on AFL 360.

As a progressive economist, I wrote a paper in 2021 with a generally conservative colleague, Kevin Hassett, who now directs the National Economic Council in the Trump White House. We agreed then on the basic arithmetic of the American retirement crisis. We still do. That’s why people like him and people like me can all say: Trump’s executive order establishing TrumpIRAs, signed last month, is simply the right move for American workers.

The American retirement system is not broken for everyone. It is broken for the bottom half. A senior executive earning $500,000 contributes the maximum $23,000 to a 401(k) and receives a 6% employer match of $30,000. Because those contributions are deducted at the 37% rate, the IRS subsidizes another $8,510. In a single year, the tax code and the employer together deliver nearly $40,000 in retirement-building support for that executive. Meanwhile the restaurant worker earning $32,000 with no workplace plan gets zero.

56 Million Americans Don't Have a Workplace Retirement Plan. Trump's New Executive Order Targets That Gap

President Donald Trump wants you to save for retirement, so he's highlighting the incentives intended to get you into the saving habit.

Saving money isn't easy, particularly if your budget is tight. Not only does it require living below your means, but it also requires delayed gratification and thinking long-term. Most humans aren't great at any of those things. U.S. President Donald Trump wants to highlight a subtle policy shift meant to incentivize people to get into the savings habit. It could be a big deal.

According to a recent Presidential executive order, "Tens of millions of Americans lack access to employer-sponsored retirement plans." The number is pegged at roughly 56 million, according to the Pew Charitable Trust. The list includes independent contractors and those who are self-employed, among others.

Opinion | This Trump Proposal Could Result in Millions of Americans Losing Their Retirement Savings

Mr. Rattner, a contributing Opinion writer, served as counselor to the Treasury secretary in the Obama administration.

Pressed by his Wall Street supporters, President Trump is moving to liberalize the types of investments Americans can make with their individual retirement accounts. Instead of betting their retirement savings on plain vanilla stocks and bonds, account holders would be allowed to move their funds into sexy sectors like private equity, private credit and cryptocurrency — no matter their complexity, risk and illiquidity.

Supporters of the switch make the case that individuals should have the same access to private assets with potentially higher returns as institutions and the wealthy. But this argument rests on the false premise that most Americans are equipped to evaluate these complex, opaque investments. They are not. And expanding access to them risks doing more harm than good.

Iraq hold off Bolivia to claim final World Cup place

Iraq became the 48th and final team to qualify for the World Cup, after they defeated Bolivia 2-1 in an intercontinental playoff in Mexico on Tuesday to secure the nation’s first appearance at the finals tournament in 40 years.

Iraq, whose preparations for the playoff had been disrupted by the war in the Middle East, will play in Group I against Norway, France and Senegal during the summer tournament.

Goals from Ali Al-Hamadi and Aymen Hussein secured a famous win for Iraq, whose last appearance at the World Cup finals came at the 1986 tournament in Mexico.

The victory marked a triumph for Iraq’s Australian head coach, Graham Arnold, who had initially sought to have the playoff on Tuesday postponed because of disruption caused by the regional conflict triggered by US‑Israeli strikes on Iran.

Mohannad Ali Kadhim looked to the heavens and screamed for joy, while emotion overcame goalkeeper Ahmed Basil Al-Fadhli as he slumped, facedown, to the turf. Coach Graham Arnold was enveloped on the touchline, before being hoisted onto his players shoulders and, Iraq flag held aloft in his hand, presented to the euphoric fans in the stands.

Half a world away, the scenes coming out of Baghdad, out of Basra, Mosul, and Erbil as Iraqis celebrated in the early morning sun, were just as striking — videos posted social media showing fans gathered anywhere able to fit a screen large enough to host a crowd placed into raptures as Ali Ibrahim Al-Hamadi and Aymen Hussein netted in a 2-1, history making intercontinental playoff win over Bolivia.

West Indies Coach Praises Hetmyer Ahead of T20 Match Against Italy

ANI Photo | West Indies batting coach praises Hetmyer as Italy team anticipates Senate reception before T20 WC match

West Indies batting coach Floyd Reifer commended Shimron Hetmyer ahead of the team’s final ICC T20 World Cup group match against Italy, describing him as a “proper batsman” who has improved his training habits despite being assigned the finisher role.

West Indies, unbeaten in their campaign so far, seek a fourth consecutive victory in the encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Reifer highlighted Hetmyer’s versatility, stating, “First, let me say, Hetmyer came with the youth cricket in 2016 as one of our best young batters in the Caribbean. Hetmyer is a proper batsman. It is just unfortunate that he was put into roles as a finisher. But now, you guys are seeing the best of Hetmyer in terms of his batsmanship. So, he can bat at number three, score runs and still finish games.”

‘Pace bowlers to carry NZ’s campaign in T20 WC’

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner on Saturday said he would trust in the variety of his fast bowling unit to keep the opposition batters silent in the Power Play and at the death overs — the phases when the bowlers leak runs generally — during the T20 World Cup. The pace-heavy Kiwi attack consists of Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson and Jacob Duffy besides all-rounder James Neesham.

“I think when you come to India, you don,t see as much lateral movement off the pitch. So, I think swing and bounce is very important. So, Duffy, if he’s got the ball swinging, he’s a challenge for batters. We,ve got all our fast bowlers to give us different options,” Santner said during the pre-match press meet ahead of their match against Afghanistan.

Carey fireworks not enough as Marsh blitz powers Perth

Adelaide's finals hopes on thin ice after Alex Carey's blistering 71 wasn't enough to lift them to victory over Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers have overcome a powerhouse knock from Ashes hero Alex Carey to post a 32-run BBL victory over the Adelaide Strikers.

Opener Mitch Marsh scored 88 off 51 balls on Sunday night to lift the Scorchers to a formidable 4-232 at Adelaide Oval; the fourth time this season Perth have surpassed the 200 mark.

In reply, Adelaide threatened to pull off a remarkable victory on reaching 2-139 after 12 overs.

Carey (71 off 39) was shaping for a match-winning century at that point, fresh from plundering 323 runs in the Ashes at 46.14.
