Golden State Valkyries v Atlanta Dream: WNBA finals 2026 Game 6 – live

Natalie Nakase calls a time out as Atlanta stretch their lead to 22 points. The Dream’s ball movement has been excellent in this first half, with Angel Reese and her five assists leading the way.

Rhyne Howard is up to three three-pointers, and the Valkyries cannot buy a basket. The Dream have now hit more threes than they made in all of Game 4 (four) and Game 5 (six). Karl Smesko, mic’d up for USA Network during the break, tells his Atlanta team he wants them to keep playing at a “100-point pace”.

It looks like it’s 9.30am for the Valkyries. Their defense is out of sorts. The Dream, on the other hand, may have just played their best quarter of the entire series. They scored more points there than in the entire first half (22) of Game 5.

Embarrassing scenario highlights shocking reality for women’s sports

In less than 24 hours the sports world could see a new WNBA champion crowned, yet incompetence from the league’s organisers has overshadowed the finale.

The Golden State Valkyries deserve to win the competition in a sold-out arena, but if they do so on Friday (AEDT), their celebrations could be cut short on the main court and their fans will be forced to take time off work or school to attend or watch the clincher.

The WNBA was reportedly made aware that could be the case almost two months ago – thanks to a message issued by the owners of the Atlanta Dream.

TWO huge grudge matches, finals revisited in 2027 Gather Round fixture

The AFL confirms the nine-game schedule of games for Gather Round 2027

NEW BULLDOG Zak Butters will face his old side – and Port Adelaide's supporters – in a Gather Round grudge match at Adelaide Oval in April, while there will also be three 2026 finals re-matches when the AFL competition returns to South Australia next year.

The AFL has confirmed the fixture for Gather Round 2027, with Port's game against the Western Bulldogs – and Butters – in primetime on the Sunday night the highlight of the schedule after his big-money free agency move.

And it is not the only grudge match on the Gather Round agenda, with Rowan Marshall's Geelong to face St Kilda on the Sunday afternoon at Barossa Park following his headline-grabbing trade to the Cats earlier this month.

    2027 Gather Round opponent confirmed

Collingwood's 2027 Gather Round opponent has been confirmed ahead of the full season fixture landing.

Collingwood will take on Sydney in their 2027 Gather Round clash, taking to the Friday night stage for the third straight year.

In a rematch of the two sides' 2025 fixture in the city of churches, the Pies and Swans will do battle on the Adelaide Oval in one of the prime matchups of the weekend.

The Pies won that 2025 game by 31 points, with Ned Long and Nick Daicos starring that night. This year it was Fremantle who the black and white faced up against on the Friday in Adelaide, losing a wet and wild game by six points.

Cricket boundaries, Mexican waves and first-time fans: Why Eden Park fails the Warriors

In more than 15 years of covering the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium, I’ve never seen a Mexican wave in the crowd during a match.

Yet just after halftime on Sunday at Eden Park, with the game against the Knights delicately poised at 6-6, many of the 48,000 fans in
attendance were on their feet to create the ripple effect. That was an instant – and telling difference – when assessing the experience last weekend, as the Warriors returned to the Auckland venue for the first time since 2014.

AFL finals: where the Hawthorn v Brisbane preliminary final will be won and lost | Martin Pegan

The Hawks meet the modern-day Lions in a final for the first time as they aim to end the back-to-back premiers’ bid for a rare three-peat

Hawthorn are well placed to make the leap into a first grand final since 2015 after building steadily across three finals campaigns and putting on a dominant qualifying final display. A victory over Brisbane at this stage could even be the first step in a changing of the guard. But the Lions surely won’t give up their crown without a fight, as they aim to become just the third VFL/AFL side in nearly seven decades – after an earlier version from each of these clubs – to claim a premiership three-peat.

‘One man’ stands between Hawks and GF as premiers return to favourite timeslot: AFL Finals LIVE

A grand final showdown with Fremantle awaits the winner of Saturday’s blockbuster preliminary final between Hawthorn and Brisbane. Live updates below!

The Lions are playing in their fourth consecutive 5:15pm prelim, having saluted in their past three, while the Hawks are back in the final four after falling to Geelong last year.

    Shane Crawford’s big Prelim declaration

Hawthorn great Shane Crawford thinks his old club is finally ready to play in their first AFL Grand Final since 2015.

The Hawks face the Brisbane Lions in a huge MCG Preliminary Final on Saturday twilight, with the winner set to face the victor of Friday’s other Prelim at the SCG between Fremantle and Sydney in this year’s decider.

Hawthorn booked their spot in the Prelim with an upset Qualifying Final victory over the minor premier Dockers in Perth, and that performance has filled Crawford with enough confidence to declare his club ‘ready’.

While the Hawks are coming up against a formidable opponent in the Lions, who are still well and truly in the hunt for a three-peat, Crawford is tipping the MCG factor and rested legs of the Hawks to get over the line come Saturday.

Sydney forward Tom Papley has hurt his knee after this collision with a Fremantle player.

He looks in serious pain and he’s come to the bench.

“He does not look good at all,” Jack Riewoldt tells Fox Footy.

David King believes it should have been a free kick to Papley for contact below the knees.

Collingwood champion Dane Swan can’t believe what he’s seen from Freo so far, including their poor loss to Hawthorn a fortnight ago.

On the flip side, Fremantle is potentially an hour away from blowing their best ever chance to win a premiership.

The AFL is reportedly bracing itself for the possibility of a lot of awkwardness on Brownlow Medal night as Sydney Swans star Isaac Heeney is among the favorites for the award.

With Heeney being stood down after the alleged incidents a few weeks ago, the league now faces a real delicate situation on one of the biggest nights on the football calendar.

Heeney had a superb season in 2026, and many have him as one of the favorites to win the Brownlow, but what happens if he does in fact win it?
