A Florida man who had been missing since Valentine’s Day was found over a week later trapped in mud up to his shoulders, authorities said.
Andrew Giddens, 36, had reportedly gone several days without food or water by then, and officials ultimately rescued him in dramatic fashion to end his nightmarish ordeal.
Deputy Derrick Holmes of the sheriff’s office in Florida’s Putnam county spotted Giddens’ abandoned car on 23 February relatively close to a sand plant belonging to Vulcan Materials Company, the agency wrote in a Facebook post.

MELROSE, Fla. (WCJB) – Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies say a two-week search for a missing man has ended after he was found stuck in mud, but alert.
Deputies told TV20 that 36-year-old Andrew Giddens was located at the Vulcan Sand Plant. Giddens’ vehicle was found abandoned on Monday by a deputy who knew Giddens from a prior Vulcan property trespassing incident.
He had been missing since speaking with his father on Valentine’s Day. Friends and family said he was depressed due to a recent breakup.
Vulcan employees on the lookout for Gidden found him, shoulder-deep in mud, near a borrow pit. He was able to talk to the employee, but they couldn’t reach him.

JACKSONVILLE, Flo. – A missing man was brought to safety in a harrowing rescue after being found shoulders deep in quick sand in Florida.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, it all started when a man was reported missing from Jacksonville. His last known contact was with his father on Feb. 14, and authorities later found his car abandoned on Feb. 23.
Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office contacted the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and requested a welfare check at his home after a search by plane yielded no findings.
