‘Forever in the mountain’: Melbourne hiker, 28, found dead on US trail

William Standish lived for hiking. His passion took him all over the world – Sweden, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Canada and the US, to mention a few.

At just 28 years old, the young Melburnian dreamed of moving to South America to live and work. First, though, he wanted to complete a gruelling walk – one that he first attempted but was forced to abandon two years ago.

It was on this trail – the Continental Divide Trail from Canada to Mexico – that he was reported missing. His family hadn’t heard from him in days, and when a rescue crew went out to look for him, they confirmed the worst.

Kit Connor and Joe Locke: 'Making a film like Heartstopper will forever be important'

Heartstopper has been described as "a lifeline for many" young LGBTQ+ viewers and something that has "changed countless lives" through its heartwarming depiction of the secondary school romance between Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring.

Based on Alice Oseman's book series, the Netflix adaptation is now coming to an end in the form of a film, to complete three TV series that have pulled some of the streamer's highest viewing figures to date.

Heartstopper Forever follows the young male couple as they prepare for a huge relationship test – going long distance as Nick heads off to university and Charlie stays behind to finish his school exams.

Heartstopper Forever review – sanitized sex scenes won’t let the Netflix lovebirds grow up

The film-length finale to the teen LGBTQ+ show has poignant moments but feels like fan service by numbers

If it were up to Kit Connor, Heartstopper would have ended quite differently. “If I’d had my way, I would have had Nick and Charlie cheating on each other and doing all those stupid things,” he recently told the Guardian. “Because young people do that and don’t necessarily need to be villainized for it.”

Midway through Heartstopper Forever, the film-length finale of Netflix’s series, I started to see his point. The central star-crossed lovebirds of Alice Oceman’s megahit are now 18 and 17, and like most teenagers they have sex, get drunk and fight with their annoying siblings. Unlike most people their age, they don’t vape, don’t use sex apps and they definitely don’t cheat.

‘Gone forever’: political anger after NSW Aboriginal heritage site bulldozed for power lines

Indigenous community members have described their shock and anger after an Aboriginal rock shelter was “damaged beyond recovery” by contractors building transmission lines for a New South Wales renewable energy zone.

The heritage site was destroyed by bulldozers in March during the construction of access tracks for the Central-West Orana renewable energy zone, a transmission line project located about 300km north-west of Sydney.

The network company Acerez, engaged by the state government to design, build and operate the infrastructure project, discovered the damage in May while undertaking due diligence checks.

'No excuse' for renewable company destroying Wiradjuri rock shelter

Members of the Wiradjuri community say it is "inexcusable" that renewable energy company ACEREZ destroyed an "Aboriginal rock shelter" near Mudgee despite knowing about it.

They are calling for compensation and for the company to be held to account.

The Commonwealth Department of Environment is assessing two applications made by a Wiradjuri traditional owner to protect the area, while two investigations into the shelter's destruction continue.

Members of the Wiradjuri community say a renewable energy company must be held to account for the "inexcusable" destruction of an Aboriginal rock shelter it promised to protect.
