    Man's body found in search for missing swimmer at North Wollongong

    A body has been found during a search for a missing swimmer at North Wollongong.

    NSW Police have not formally identified the body but believe it to be that of a 32-year-old man.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

    The body of a man has been pulled from the waters at North Wollongong.

    Emergency services were called to the waters off the Continental Pool at 11am on Sunday after a call about a missing swimmer.

    The call came after people at the beach had found the swimmer's belongings on the shore.

    Surf lifesaving teams hit the water on jet-skis and IRBs searching for the man.

    Water Police and the Lifesaver rescue helicopter were also involved in the search.

    Drowning at Wollongong on Sunday

    A report will be prepared for the Coroner, after a man’s body was located near Wollongong

    Emergency services were called to Cliff Road, North Wollongong, at about 10.40am on Sunday 9 August 2026, after reports the belongings of a swimmer who had not returned from the water had been located.

    A search of nearby water, by multiple crews located the body of the missing swimmer.

    He is yet to be formally identified; however, he’s believed to be aged in his early 30’s.

    A crime scene has been set up up in southern New South Wales after a body was found in a suitcase.

    Police say they were called to Wolgon Road at Oallen, about 60 kilometres south-east of Goulburn, just before 1pm.

    Officers attached to the Hume police district attended and located a body in a suitcase.

    The body is yet to be identified but police say it is believed to be female.

    A crime scene has been established and the suitcase has been seized to undergo forensic examination, as detectives start their investigation.

    Modelling scout linked to Epstein found dead in Paris

    A modelling scout linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead at his home.

    Daniel Siad, 69, was discovered on Monday in Colombes, a north-west suburb of Paris, the Nanterre prosecutor's office confirmed to the BBC.

    An investigation to determine the cause of death was opened on Monday evening, the office said, adding that a post-mortem examination would be carried out.

    Siad's name appeared thousands of times in the Epstein files released by the US government. He denied knowing of the threat Epstein had posed.

    His lawyer stressed that Siad, who had been the subject of several complaints in France including allegations of rape, had "never been prosecuted".

    Model scout for Jeffrey Epstein found dead at his home near Paris

    Daniel Siad faced allegations of rape and trafficking in France and appeared in more than 1,000 documents in Epstein files

    A modelling scout who recruited women for Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead at his home near Paris, French officials have said.

    Daniel Siad, 69, was under investigation by the prosecutors specialising in human trafficking in France, accused of rape and other charges. His name appeared in more than 1,000 documents in the US Department of Justice Epstein files that were declassified earlier this year.

    Siad was one of several French men accused of aiding Epstein to traffic and abuse women. He had not yet been questioned by investigators, but had denied the allegations, saying he wanted to give his version of events.

    First atmosphere found on Earth-like planet in habitable zone of distant star

    Researchers have found the first atmosphere surrounding an Earth-like, rocky planet orbiting within the habitable zone of a distant star.

    The researchers say that their discovery provides the strongest evidence yet that worlds with conditions similar to Earth could exist beyond our solar system.

    The gas detected in the atmosphere is helium, which would not be able to support life, but other gasses may also be present.

    The lead author, Dr Collin Cherubim of Harvard University, described the discovery as "a big deal".

    "This is the first time anyone has found an atmosphere on a rocky planet in the habitable zone of another star."

    The search for life outside our solar system has taken another twist as researchers revealed they have discovered an atmosphere around an Earth-like planet 49 light years away that could have liquid water on its surface.

    Atmospheres have previously been found around gas giant exoplanets as well as “sub-Neptunes”. There have also been signs of such envelopes around rocky exoplanets that sit outside their star’s habitable zone – a region in which liquid water could exist on the planet’s surface, and hence potentially support life.

    July 15, 2026, Mountain View, CA — On July 16, 2024 a daytime meteor shook New York City with a sonic boom as it passed just south of the Statue of Liberty. Now, an international team of researchers reports in the journal Science Advances that a short time later, a more than two-pound meteorite crashed through the roof of a house in the town of Hillsborough, New Jersey.

    "A forensic study of the fragments revealed that they contained preserved bits from near the surface of a small primitive asteroid where it experienced concentrated salty fluids—a process not previously known from this type of proto planet world," said lead author and meteor astronomer Peter Jenniskens of the SETI Institute and NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley.

    A meteorite weighing more than 2 pounds (1 kilogram) that crashed through the roof of a New Jersey home two years ago could shed light on ancient water in the solar system.

    Observers across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania reported seeing a fireball streaking across the sky during the daytime on July 16, 2024. As the object whizzed by just south of the Statue of Liberty, it caused a sonic boom felt by New York City and New Jersey residents.

    The spectacle came from a space rock, estimated to be the size of a heavy airline bag, that zipped through Earth's atmosphere at a speed of 32,000 miles per hour (14.4 kilometers per second).

    Meteorite that crashed into New Jersey home contains "alien world chemistry," scientists say

    A meteorite that crashed into a New Jersey home held prebiotic molecules and other "building blocks of life," astronomers said in a newly published paper. 

    The meteorite struck the home in July 2024. The homeowner preserved the fragments in glass jars using disposable gloves and aluminum foil, allowing an international team of experts to study them in detail, the researchers said in a paper published Wednesday in the journal ScienceAdvances.  

    When scientists examined the preserved fragments, they were able to determine the meteorite was made of a rare, primitive material called CM1/2 carbonaceous chondrite. This is only the second observed fall of such a meteorite, making it "one of the most scientifically valuable meteorites ever recovered," according to a news release from the SETI Institute, a nonprofit research organization based in California.

    Police say the drugs with a street value of $816 million were found hidden in an elaborate bunker system at a Londonderry property.

    A number of people have been charged over the alleged drug importation scheme and remain before the courts.

    A record 2.7 tonnes of cocaine worth an estimated street value of $816 million has been seized at a semi-rural property in Greater Western Sydney.

    Police make Australia’s biggest cocaine bust

    In the biggest cocaine seizure in Australian history, police have seized 2.7 tonnes of drugs and arrested eight people.

    The Australian Federal Police on Monday released details of a raid last Friday in western Sydney that led to the discovery of the drugs allegedly hidden in containers in a secret bunker.

    Archaeologists believe they have discovered an earlier, much simpler version of Stonehenge about 3 miles (5km) away from the prehistoric monument.

    All that remains of the older structure is two holes in the ground, but the team says they held wooden posts that lined up with the Sun on the summer and winter solstices – the longest and shortest days of the year – in the same way as Stonehenge.

    The site has been dated to about 5,000 years old, which predates Stonehenge by 500 years.

    A truck loaded with Skims clothing meant for a routine delivery was instead used as part of a multimillion-dollar cocaine smuggling attempt that authorities in the United Kingdom say was uncovered at a port inspection.

    A Polish truck driver has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison after being convicted of smuggling cocaine concealed within a shipment of Skims underwear and clothing, according to the U.K.’s National Crime Agency.

    The case came to light after Border Force officers stopped the vehicle at the Port of Harwich in Essex on Sept. 5, 2025. The truck had arrived on a ferry from Hook of Holland in the Netherlands and was carrying 28 pallets of Skims products, the clothing brand founded by business mogul Kim Kardashian.

    A British court sentenced a truck driver to prison for smuggling $9.4 million worth of cocaine in a shipment of underwear and clothing from Skims, Kim Kardashian's shapewear brand, authorities said Monday.

    The National Crime Agency said Jakub Jan Konkel, 40, was driving a truck carrying 28 pallets of Skims clothing from the Netherlands when he was stopped by border officials at a port in Essex in September.

    The agency said Konkel had stopped on the way to collect 90 kilograms (198 pounds) of cocaine, and that the truck had been specially adapted so that he could hide the drugs, wrapped in 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) packages, in a compartment of the truck's back doors.

    Kim Kardashian's SKIMS Line Unknowingly Played a Role in $9.5 Million Drug Bust

    A truck containing Kim Kardashian's SKIMS brand was used to conceal 90kg, or nearly 200 pounds, of cocaine during an attempted smuggling operation in England, which was ultimately busted.

    A delivery driver in the United Kingdom was arrested and charged for smuggling more than £7 million (approximately $9.5 million) worth of cocaine in a truck carrying Kim Kardashian's clothing brand, the National Crime Agency confirmed in a May 18 press release.

    Jakub Jan Konkel was stopped by Border Force officers in Essex in September while arriving on a ferry from the Netherlands. After 28 pallets of SKIMS products were x-rayed, authorities said the load was "entirely legitimate and neither the exporter nor importer were connected to the smuggled load."

    Portrait of a Young Girl, by Dutch artist Toon Kelder, is believed to have hung for decades in the home of Hendrik Seyffardt's family, Arthur Brand said. He added later it had been handed over to his team.

    The painting belonged to Jacques Goudstikker, who died fleeing the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, leaving a collection of more than 1,000 paintings.

    The case was brought to Brand's attention by a man who told him he was a descendant of Seyffardt "disgusted" to learn his family had kept the artwork for years.

    An artwork looted by the Nazis from the renowned Goudstikker collection has resurfaced in the home of descendants of a notorious Dutch SS collaborator, according to an art detective.

    Portrait of a Young Girl, by the Dutch artist Toon Kelder, is believed to have hung for decades in the home of Hendrik Seyffardt’s family, Arthur Brand said, describing it as “the most bizarre case of my entire career”.

    A body found next to an abandoned ute 50km north-west of Lake Cargelligo is believed to be a gunman suspected of killing his pregnant former partner in remote New South Wales.
    A large-scale manhunt for 37-year-old Julian Ingram has been under way since January when he allegedly shot Sophie Quinn, her new boyfriend and her aunt in Lake Cargelligo, about 450km west of Sydney.
    Ingram was last seen driving a Ford Ranger ute with council signage from the town on 22 January.

    The police said in a statement a short time ago that a man’s body, understood to be Ingram, was discovered beside an abandoned ute 50km north-west of Lake Cargelligo.

    Australian passengers who were on board the hantavirus-hit cruise ship will be ordered to quarantine in Perth for at least three weeks, in what the federal government has declared a "precautionary approach" to keep the community safe.

    Five Australians and one New Zealander will be transported to Western Australia on a government plane in the coming days and will be "immediately transferred" to a quarantine facility.

    Federal Health Minister Mark Butler said "national quarantine arrangements" would be enacted to allow the federal government to take control off the states for quarantine and return arrangements.

    Hantavirus outbreak: Rescue flight on way to collect Australians from virus cruise ship MV Hondius

    London/Tenerife: An Australian flight will arrive in the Canary Islands on Monday to rescue passengers from the cruise ship hit by a deadly hantavirus outbreak, after furious complaints that nations were not sending aircraft quickly enough to collect those on board.

    The MV Hondius arrived at the port of Granadilla in Tenerife early on Sunday morning (Sunday afternoon AEST) amid huge concern on the islands about the spread of the disease that killed three people who had been on board.
