Pogacar holds off French teen to claim third straight Liège-Bastogne-Liège title

‘It means a lot to win again one of the biggest races’

The world champion, Tadej Pogacar, pulled ahead of the 19-year-old French debutant Paul Seixas in the final climb to secure his third straight Liège-Bastogne-Liège title on Sunday, his fourth overall victory in the race.

Pogacar finished the 259.5km race in five hours, 50 minutes and 28 seconds to win the 13th Monument title of his career and his third of the year after the Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo.

“It means a lot to win again one of the biggest races of the year, of cycling … there’s a lot of pressure on me to deliver, I’m really happy that we succeeded,” said Pogacar, who is now one Liège title short of Belgium’s Eddy Merckx, who won the race a record five times between 1969 and 1975.

Comedy duo will take the stage together in the West End for the first time in 17 years in Cinderella alongside Julian Clary

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders are to return to the stage together for the first time in 17 years to play the Ugly Sisters in the London Palladium pantomime.

“It won’t be pretty,” the popular duo predicted in an announcement on Tuesday. “We have wished to play the Ugly Sisters for so many years, it feels this is the fulfilment of a dream – a dream our hearts made.”

The pair began performing together almost 50 years ago after meeting as students at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. They collaborated on a hugely successful sketch comedy series for the BBC and toured together in 1990 and 2000. Their last tour, French and Saunders: Still Alive!, was in 2008-09 and they teamed up again for a podcast, Titting About, in 2020.

‘He worked on his speech in French for months’: César awards boss rejects Jim Carrey clone conspiracy theories

Gregory Caulier has attempted to quash rumours that Mask actor was replaced by a heavily made-up impersonator for his appearance picking up an honorary award in Paris

The organiser of the César awards has sought to debunk reports that a lookalike stood in for Jim Carrey at last week’s ceremony.

In a statement sent to Variety on Monday, Gregory Caulier, general delegate of the Césars, said the controversy was a “non-issue” and testified to Carrey’s investment in the event, which had been in the planning since last summer.

“From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” wrote Caulier. “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”

César Awards Say Jim Carrey ‘Worked on His Speech in French for Months’ Amid Clone Conspiracy Theory: His ‘Visit Had Been Planned Since the Summer’ (EXCLUSIVE)

If anything, the swirling impersonation rumors surrounding Jim Carrey’s honorary appearance at the César Awards in Paris may be a testament to the enduring cult status of his wild performances in films like “The Truman Show” and “The Mask.”

Despite the fact that Carrey attended the Feb. 26 ceremony surrounded by his family and made a deeply personal, teary-eyed speech, clone conspiracy theories gained momentum after drag artist Alexis Stone posted on Instagram suggesting he had impersonated Carrey at the event, sharing images of prosthetics and a wig resembling the actor’s look that night.

But Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, says the actor’s rare appearance at the ceremony — where he received the honorary Cesar, succeeding Julia Roberts — was authentic and “a historic moment.”

Brigitte Bardot, the doe-eyed beauty whose sensuality brought French cinema to the mainstream, has died aged 91.

Arriving on screen in the 1950s, Bardot swiftly rose to fame as an era-defining "sex kitten".

She starred in films such as And God Created Woman, Contempt and Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin Féminin.

Discovered by a magazine editor as a teenager, Bardot also proved a designer's darling.

With her bouffant hair and thick eyeliner, few epitomised French chic like Bardot, who became a muse for the likes of Dior, Balmain and Pierre Cardin.

The name Brigitte Bardot immediately conjures a sort of fetishised notion of femininity, as the actress who burst onto the scene in the mid-1950s teetered on the cusp of girlhood and womanhood, modernity and pre-modernity, emancipated and coquettish.

Bardot, born in Paris in 1932, died in St Tropez, where she had had a home since 1958, on Sunday. She was 91.

Simone de Beauvoir wrote of the then-actress, and later animal rights campaigner, in her 1959 essay Brigitte Bardot and the Lolita Syndrome, that “she is temperamental, changeable and unpredictable, and though she retains the limpidity of childhood, she has also preserved its mystery. A strange little creature, all in all.”

Mary Fowler has revealed she experienced racism from a teammate during her time with French club Montpellier.

Fowler said she and Dutch teammate Ashleigh Weerden were given bananas instead of flowers at a presentation for departing players in 2022.

The 22-year old also lived with depression and self-harm and considered retirement during her two-year stint with the club.

Matildas star Mary Fowler has outlined the racism she experienced while playing for French club Montpellier, in her new memoir Bloom.

Fowler joined the French club in 2020 as a 17-year-old and left for Manchester City two years later, and in her book details how she and her friend Ashleigh Weerden were treated after their final home game for the club.
