19-Hour Flights: Singapore Airlines' 11 New Ultra-Long Airbus A350 Routes Revealed [Map]

Singapore Airlines has long been one of the leading ultra-long-haul airlines in the world, and its Airbus A350 fleet has become pivotal to maintaining this reputation. The airline is the operator of the world's longest scheduled nonstop commercial service, a 19-hour-plus flight between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and New York JFK Airport (JFK) that it has flown since 2020 . It also operates several more extremely long routes out of its SIN hub.

Looking at data from aviation analytics company Cirium for July-December 2026, Singapore Airlines will be flying a total of 11 A350 routes with a block time of 14 hours or above, including a new route for 2026 that will take passengers all the way to Spain. This will be the airline's connection with Madrid, a city it is returning to after 22 years away.

VOLCANO WATCH: Giant Of Vulcanology Retires

(BIVN) – In this week’s Volcano Watch article, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory bids a hui hou to a “giant of vulcanology”, retired University of Hawaiʻi professor Bruce Houghton.

In 2025, Professor Bruce Houghton retired from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa after 25 years as the Gordon A. Macdonald Chair of Volcanology. He was only the second person to hold the position in the past half century. With his retirement, let’s reflect on a career that helped shape how scientists understand explosive eruptions, volcanic hazards, and how communities live with active volcanoes.

Born and educated in New Zealand, Houghton established himself as a leading volcanologist at the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) New Zealand before joining the University of Hawaiʻi in 2000. In Hawaii, he became not only a researcher and professor, but also the State Volcanologist.

There's a Volcano in Antarctica Spewing Crystals of Gold Into The Atmosphere

But one volcano deep in the farthest, frozen reaches of our planet marches to the beat of a slightly different drum.

On Ross Island in the Ross Sea, a deep bay in Antarctica, Mount Erebus fumes about 1,350 kilometers (840 miles) from the Geographic South Pole. The world's southernmost active volcano, it bubbles with a permanent lake of blazing lava.

And in the gas constantly pouring forth from this gate to the underworld, scientists found microscopic particles of crystalline, elemental gold.

According to a 1991 research paper, published in Geophysical Research Letters, Erebus belches out about 80 grams (2.8 ounces) of microscopic gold dust per day, scattering it as far as 1,000 kilometers away – maybe even farther.

A giant warm wave is crossing the Pacific, signaling an El Niño that could alter weather worldwide this year

This article has been reviewed according to Science X's

    and policies.
    Editors have highlighted
the following attributes while ensuring the content's credibility:

Waves of higher, warmer water move eastward across the Pacific Ocean a few months before an El Niño emerges. Several have shown up in 2026 satellite data.

Sea level data from a satellite launched by NASA and European partners shows that a swell of warm water hundreds of miles wide has arrived in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America, a sign that El Niño will likely emerge later in the year. Because water expands as it warms, a rise in elevation of an area of the ocean indicates increasing ocean temperatures.

4 ways the ‘super El Niño’ will impact you — beyond how hot it feels

The comments on this news article are just as terrifying as the wide reaching climate and societal implications of the topic at hand. There is racism, accusations of “made up” statistics, and even one celebrating the melting of ice and glaciers in Canada…. What is happening to lead these people down such a dangerous path of misunderstanding.

Now that the liberals have squeezed every penny they can out of taxpayers pockets, its time to start the fear campaigning! Lets make up some stats and scare people with he big bad climate change so we can get even MORE from them!
Once all the fearmongering cash dries up, then phase 3 is martial law (or sharia law, whichever comes first)…

The ‘doomsday’ glacier’s giant ice shelf is about to break away

The floating ice shelf of world’s widest glacier – Thwaites glacier in Antarctica – is detaching, with worrying implications for global sea-level rise

Antarctica’s most threatened glacier is about be further destabilised, as the floating ice shelf in front of Thwaites glacier is set to break away.

“Its final demise could happen suddenly, and to avoid being caught on the hop, we have already prepared an ‘obituary’ press release,” says Rob Larter at the British Antarctic Survey.

Antarctica’s Thwaites Ice Shelf is tearing apart as collapse nears

The floating ice shelf in front of Antarctica’s Thwaites glacier is on the verge of breaking away, with satellite images showing alarming signs that the Thwaites Eastern Ice Shelf will imminently detach. The shelf is already tearing apart around the point that has helped hold it in place.

Thwaites is the world’s widest glacier, about the size of Britain, and it already accounts for 4 per cent of all global sea-level rise. If it collapses, scientists expect a domino effect through the entire West Antarctic ice sheet, which could add 3.3 metres to sea levels.

The eastern shelf is not a small fringe of ice. It covers about 1,500 square kilometres and is roughly 350 metres thick, but by some measures the break-up is already under way. Huge fractures are opening around the pinning point and along the grounding line, the boundary where the glacier meets the ocean and starts to float.

'Doomsday’ ice shelf from glacier the size of Britain BREAKING apart

Scientists have taken the unusual step of drafting a press release in advance to announce the shelf's eventual collapse

Antarctica's Thwaites glacier, widely known as the "doomsday glacier," stands on the brink of a significant transformation as its eastern ice shelf prepares to detach.

Scientists at the British Antarctic Survey have taken the unusual step of drafting a press release in advance to announce the shelf's eventual collapse.

"Its final demise could happen suddenly, and to avoid being caught on the hop, we have already prepared an 'obituary' press release," says Rob Larter, of the British Antarctic Survey.

The glacier, roughly equivalent in size to Britain, currently contributes four per cent of global sea level rise.

Giant trees planted pre-WWII being removed after chemicals, disease, vandalism take toll

The removal of two giant sequoia trees that have been growing in a central Hobart park since 1937 is underway.

Hobart City Council says vandalism and fire, among other factors, led to the sequoias' decline

The works are expected to be completed by the end of the week, with two replacement young giant sequoias to be planted.

Works to remove two dead giant sequoias from a popular Hobart park are underway.

Hobart’s St David’s Park losing 88-year-old giant sequoias this week

Two giant sequoias that have stood in Hobart’s St David’s Park for almost nine decades are being cut down this week after efforts to save the dying trees failed.

The City of Hobart’s tree care team started removing the sequoias today, with the work expected to wrap up by Friday.

Both trees were planted in 1937 to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and have been part of the park’s landscape ever since.

The council said the trees have been in decline since autumn last year and haven’t responded to repeated treatment.

Hobart Begins Removal of Historic Giant Sequoias in St David’s Park

The removal of two giant sequoia trees that have been growing in St David’s Park since 1937 is underway in Hobart. According to ABC News, the Hobart City Council cited factors such as vandalism and fire as contributing to the trees’ decline.

The heritage-listed sequoias, planted to commemorate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, are being taken down due to their deteriorating condition. The largest tree stands at 32 metres high and 8.6 metres wide, while the second measures 30 metres high and 8.7 metres wide.

The council reported that despite repeated efforts to save the trees, they had not responded to treatment. The removal works are expected to take a week, with the council’s arboriculture team handling the process. After the trees are cut down, their stumps will be levelled, and remediation works will follow later in the year.

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Alyssa Healy will bid adieu to her international career, following the one-off Test against India at WACA. Her 16-year career for Australia included strong performances with the bat and contributions with the gloves behind the stumps.

Healy won six T20 World Cup titles, the most by any player, to go along with an ODI World Cup and a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Healy's career took a significant turn after the 2017 ODI World Cup, when the then head coach Matthew Mott promoted her to the opening slot. Until then, Healy scored only 495 runs and two fifties in 41 ODI innings. After the promotion, she scored 3282 runs from 73 innings, with eight hundreds and 17 fifties.

Australia have ensured they will at the very least retain the multi-format series trophy after taking an 8-4 lead over India with a clean sweep in the ODIs, but Healy has made her side's intention to finish with an outright win in the Test match at the WACA Ground clear.

Healy's final walk out for the toss will be in her Baggy Green and matching captain's blazer, and she has vowed to relish every moment of her last outing.
