Package deal: St Kilda moves in on Jake Stringer

You've used all of your gift articles. 3 more will become available on the 1st of every month.

Jake Stringer is expected to do a medical at St Kilda on Monday as the club moves towards signing the goalkicker as a delisted free agent.

The 32-year-old kicked 48 goals for the Giants in 2026 from 93 shots at goal but was delisted at the end of the season as the club looked to reset for its next generation to emerge.

Known to commentators as “The Package”, Stringer would add much needed firepower to the Saints, who finished 11th in 2026 without the services of injured spearhead Max King and with Liam Ryan their leading goalkicker with 33 goals.

AFL 2026: Jake Stringer likely to leave GWS Giants for St Kilda

St Kilda have emerged as the club Jake Stringer is likely to join for the 2027 season, with conversations between both parties escalating rapidly in the last 72 hours.

Stringer kicked 48 goals at GWS in 2026 but was not offered a new contract and struggled to find another AFL home throughout the trade period.

He met with new Bombers coach Mark McVeigh at Friction Cafe in Essendon last Sunday. Stringer is married to McVeigh’s cousin.

The Stringer camp was hopeful of an opportunity to return to Tullamarine after the coffee catch-up, however, the Bombers later claimed it was a broad meeting rather than a contract pitch.

Jameis Winston on J.J. McCarthy: I have to play well regardless of who else is here

Jameis Winston will be starting at quarterback for the Giants against the Cardinals on Sunday, but the team’s move to add J.J. McCarthy in a trade this week has led to questions about how long he’ll remain in that role.

Winston struggled when he came in after Jaxson Dart’s injury in Week 2, but avoided turnovers while going 14-of-22 for 118 yards in the Giants’ 12-7 win over the Titans last Sunday. In his weekly press conference, Winston said he doesn’t feel any more challenged to play well because of McCarthy’s arrival.

“I mean, I have to play well regardless,” Winston said, via a transcript from the team. “It doesn’t matter who’s in the building. When you’re the quarterback for the New York Football Giants, you have to give your team a chance to win, and that’s just the business that we’re in.”

‘Dumba**’: NFL coach’s big Aussie admission as MVP bounces back; Giants rocked by QB blow

The Los Angeles Rams bounced back from their season-opening flop in Australia to score a stylish 28-6 victory over the New York Giants on Monday.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford returned to form with 327 passing yards and four touchdowns for Los Angeles as the Giants never recovered after suffering an early injury to signal-caller Jaxson Dart.

The Rams had been trounced 27-7 by San Francisco in Melbourne last week, when the team’s decision to travel to Australia on the eve of the game backfired.

The Los Angeles Rams' dismal NFL season opener in Australia and their proliferating injury woes were nothing Davante Adams and Matthew Stafford couldn't overcome back home with a vintage performance against the Giants.

And after New York lost Jaxson Dart on the opening drive, they didn't stand a chance.

Adams made eight catches for 195 yards and hauled in two of Stafford's four touchdown passes, and the Rams welcomed Aaron Donald back to the NFL with a 28-6 victory on Monday night (Tuesday AEST).

Rams vs. Giants preview: Aaron Donald makes return for Los Angeles on 'MNF'

In the final game of Week 2, the Los Angeles Rams host the New York Giants on "Monday Night Football."

The Rams were embarrassed in their season opener by the division rival San Francisco 49ers, falling 27-7 in Australia. The Rams, who led the NFL in both yards and points last season, managed just 290 yards of total offense against San Francisco and turned the ball over twice. Meanwhile, the defense allowed 5.9 yards per play and was repeatedly gashed on the ground. Worse yet, the Rams saw Myles Garrett head to injured reserve after he ended up having knee surgery. L.A. gets Aaron Donald back on Monday night, but the so-called super team looks like anything but so far. And it may not have Puka Nacua on Monday night, either.

Giants vs. Rams: Three must-know storylines for Monday's Week 2 prime-time game

The Rams ended Week 1 as the only NFC West team without a win, and the Giants seamlessly transitioned into the John Harbaugh era by enforcing their will on the Cowboys in the Sunday night opener — just as everyone expected!

Los Angeles’ stumble out of the starting blocks was the more surprising of the two results, and it sets up a pivotal early-season game between two NFC clubs.

While the Rams look to get into the win column, Big Blue has an opportunity to make a huge statement. It would be one thing to open the season by taking down an opponent in a divisional matchup, games which often end up being tossups, but following that up by traveling cross country to defeat the preseason Super Bowl favorites would put the league on notice regarding New York’s emergence as a surprise contender.

Giants vs. Rams predictions, odds, time: Week 2 'Monday Night Football' picks, NFL best bets by proven model

The New York Giants will look to continue their strong start to the season when they take on the Los Angeles Rams on 'Monday Night Football.' New York is coming off a 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, while Los Angeles dropped a 27-7 decision to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Aaron Donald is set to make his return to the Rams after sitting out the opener, though Los Angeles is without Myles Garrett, who went on the IR this week with a knee injury. Puka Nacua (hip) is questionable for L.A, while his backup, Jordan Whittington (quad is doubtful). Claim the latest Polymarket promo code CBSSPORTS to get a $50 bonus after $10 in trades:

Trade Bell: Giants forward attracting Essendon interest

The Trade Bell has sounded with all the latest trade news.

SEN’s Tom Morris has given an update on a number of players as of Saturday the 19th of September.

“One of the players that was waiting on (Toby Greene’s) decision was Jake Riccardi.

“The Giants had pulled back their offer for him, waiting on Greene to see what he was going to do.

“Now that he has made his decision they have circled back with a three-year deal, but he has looked elsewhere in the meantime.

“There is no guarantee that he is going to sign that three-year deal. He might want more money in Victoria – and I think there would be more money in Victoria.

Greater Western Sydney key forward’s likely trade landing spot revealed

Greater Western Sydney key forward Jake Riccardi is likely to nominate Essendon as the club he wants to play for in 2027 and beyond.

The 26-year-old is originally from Victoria and was an Essendon fan growing up.

Riccardi is out of contract at the end of the season and while the Giants have offered a two-three year deal for him to stay, Nine is reporting that he wants to leave.

The motivations for his departure consist of his desire for more opportunities as a primary key forward, while it is almost certain that he would land a more lucrative contract at the Bombers than the Giants.

Giants stay in wildcard frame with win over Power

Greater Western Sydney holds on to get a crucial win over Port Adelaide and keep its slim finals hopes alive

GREATER Western Sydney's finals flame is still flickering after a gutsy 12-point away win against Port Adelaide.

The Giants, with Stephen Coniglio and Jake Stringer booting three goals each, triumphed 10.15 (75) to 9.9 (63) at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

GWS sits in 12th spot only one win outside the top 10 with home games against Gold Coast, West Coast, and an away encounter against Adelaide, to come.

The Giants broke the 15th-placed Power with a stretch of six consecutive goals either side of half-time en route to a ninth victory of the season.

Fallen Giants keeps wildcard dream alive with ‘kamikaze’ win over depleted rival

GWS’s volatile 2026 season has continued on Saturday night, but this time for the better — defeating Port Adelaide by two goals in enemy territory to keep their wildcard hopes alive.

Momentum swung wildly throughout the first half after a slow start from both sides, but ultimately the Giants came up trumps to win 10.15 (75) over the Power’s 9.9 (63).

More specifically, an unanswered six-goal run from the visitors proved the difference across the second and third quarter, which was highlighted by their willingness to move the ball by hand at every opportunity.

Tom Green insists the Giants will still be capable of winning a premiership even if Toby Greene opts to leave.

Jordan Lewis said on Fox Footy earlier this week that the Giants would struggle as a club post the Toby era.

“A lot has been made about the Gold Coast Suns and the culture and what that is doing. But, the talk around Toby Greene leaving the Giants, I think that destroys the club,” Lewis said on Monday night.
