BTS withdraw from Grammys, a month after Asian pop prize introduced
Korean pop group BTS have announced they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards.
The news came in a co-ordinated Instagram post, with all seven members of the band uploading an identical statement.
"We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year," a translation of the message read. "I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language."
The band were widely expected to be in competition for some of the Grammys' major categories, including album of the year, after their comeback record, Arirang, became one of the year's biggest-sellers.

K-pop superstars will not submit Arirang album or its songs for 2027 ceremony
BTS, the biggest pop act in east Asia, have withdrawn themselves from the 2027 Grammy awards, intimating that their decision is due to the addition of a new award for best Asian pop music performance.
Writing on Instagram, each of the South Korean group’s seven members said: “We have decided not to enter the Grammys this year. I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.”
The comments are a striking – if gently worded – rebuke of the Recording Academy’s new category announced last month.

BTS Won’t Submit for 2027 Grammy Awards Consideration
BTS will not submit its music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for Feb. 7, 2027, the group announced on Wednesday.
All seven members – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook – posted the same statement on their individual instagram accounts.
“We have decided not to submit for Grammy consideration this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank Army and everyone who has always stood by us.”
The announcement lands just over a month after the Recording Academy unveiled a new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category. “This category recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including but not limited to K-pop, J-pop and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Awards are presented to the performing artist(s),” the Academy’s description of the category reads.
