TikTok has quietly launched a new micro drama app called PineDrama as the category picks up steam in the US

TikTok is making a fresh bet in one of the most promising new media categories: micro dramas.

The company has rolled out a new stand-alone app in the US and Brazil, called PineDrama, dedicated to micro drama series. Micro dramas — also called "verticals" and "mini dramas" — are serialized shows that users watch in roughly one-minute clips.

The most popular micro drama series often include romance or the supernatural, or both — think sordid love affairs with vampires or werewolves. PineDrama's shows are no exception, with one series, "Love at First Bite," garnering 18 million views. Its current top three trending shows each had over 100 million views, according to tallies displayed in the app.

TikTok's latest spinoff app feels a lot like Quibi, but with shorter and cornier content

In another attempt to reduce our attention spans to mush, TikTok has released the PineDrama app, which offers serialized drama series that are roughly a minute per episode. As first spotted by Business Insider, the app is designed exactly like TikTok, but instead of trendy dance videos, you can scroll through and watch "micro dramas."

For those new to the category, micro dramas are bite-sized TV shows shot in vertical video and available in minute-long episodes. Don't expect any nominations for Best Original Screenplay with series like The Officer Fell For Me or Married to my past life's nemesis, since they typically offer soap opera vibes with cliffhangers that keep users scrolling to the next episode. The app is designed to keep people on it with a Discover tab, a place to save favorites and the ability to react in real time alongside other viewers.

Fetty Wap has been released from prison early after spending the past three years behind bars.

The 34-year-old "Trap Queen" rapper is no longer in custody, having been transferred to community confinement on Jan. 7, a spokesperson for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed to USA TODAY. He has been incarcerated since August 2022 and was sentenced the following year to six years in prison.

His confinement is overseen by the BOP's Philadelphia Residential Reentry Management Office, spokesperson Emery Nelson said, noting, "Community confinement means the inmate is in either home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center (RRC, or halfway house)."

Former Invercargill and Waitematā mayor Sir Tim Shadbolt died early this morning.

Sir Tim, who was awarded the Knight Companion of New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2019 New Year's Honours List, served eight terms as Invercargill Mayor between 1993 and 1995, and again between 1998 – 2022, and two terms as Waitematā (Auckland) Mayor, between 1983 and 1989, making him one of the longest-serving mayors in New Zealand.

"Today we lost the cornerstone of our family and the man who has devoted himself to promoting the City of Invercargill for almost 30 years," the mayor's partner of many decades, Asha Dutt, said in a statement on behalf of the family.

Lilly, 46, posted on Instagram this week informing fans that she has been diagnosed with â€œbrain damageâ€.

The actor, who played Kate Austen in all six seasons of the series Lost, had been on holiday in Hawaii, where the much-loved show was primarily filmed between 2004 and 2010, when the incident occurred last summer.

The lights are dimming in Hawkins, Indiana, but for Joe Keery, they’re just beginning to shine somewhere new. As Stranger Things launches its fifth and final season in three parts starting November 26, 2025, the actor and musician behind Steve Harrington is stepping into a future that’s as unpredictable as it is promising. For nearly a decade, Keery has been a fixture in the pop culture landscape, evolving from a small-town Massachusetts kid to a Netflix icon, and now, to a chart-topping musician and sought-after actor with a fearless appetite for reinvention.

Joe Keery’s journey began far from Hollywood, attending River Valley Charter School and Newburyport High School before studying theater at DePaul University in Chicago. It was there, in the city’s vibrant indie scene, that he first cut his teeth in music with the psychedelic rock band Post Animal. But acting was always in the cards. His symptoms started maybe a year prior. When we would have a meal with the kids, he’d say things like, “Something’s wrong with my hand.” He was struggling to use his chopsticks, dropping his food. That was when he started seeing doctors. He was initially diagnosed with a few other things, but he had this sinking feeling that it was something more serious. And I was like, “No, it’s not. Rebecca Gayheart on her 'very complicated' relationship with Eric Dane: 'I am always going to want the best for him'

Less than one year after her estranged husband, Eric Dane, went public with his ALS diagnosis, Rebecca Gayheart spoke to New York Magazine’s The Cut about caring for her ex despite their “complicated relationship.”

In the essay published Monday, the actress said she wept with Dane, from whom she had lived apart for years, when they learned of his diagnosis. “I didn’t know all the details like I do now, but I knew enough about ALS to know that there wasn’t a cure,” Gayheart said of the progressive neurodegenerative disease.

The former couple has two daughters — Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14. Though Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018 after separating from Dane a year earlier, she dismissed the filing in March 2025, less than one month before Dane went public with his ALS diagnosis.
