If asteroid YR4 hits our Moon, it'll cause a bright flash and meteors as debris hits Earth, say scientists

If asteroid 2024 YR4 does hit the Moon, it could produce a bright flash on the lunar surface that would be visible from Earth, and spray debris into our planet's atmosphere.

Such an impact may even produce meteors visible in our night sky, and generate an infrared glow visible hours after the event.

These are some of the results of a new study looking into what will happen if the large asteroid does hit our Moon in 2032.

Asteroid 2024 YR4 became one of the big talking points during the first half of 2025, when it was reported that there was a chance this large space rock could hit Earth in 2023.

If an Asteroid Hits The Moon in 2032, The Aftermath Might Reach Earth

There's a bright side to every situation. In 2032, the Moon itself might have a particularly bright side if it is blasted by a 60-meter-wide asteroid.

The chances of such an event are still relatively small (only around 4 percent), but non-negligible.

And scientists are starting to prepare both for the bad (massive risks to satellites and huge meteors raining down on a large portion of the planet) and the good (a once-in-a-lifetime chance to study the geology, seismology, and chemical makeup of our nearest neighbor).

MANCHESTER, England — Ruben Amorim has accused some Manchester United players of having a "feeling of entitlement" following incidents of apparent dissent from youngsters Chido Obi and Harry Amass.

Both Chido and Amass posted provocative images on social media after Amorim questioned the readiness of the club's academy graduates to play for the first team.

Asked specifically about the incidents involving Chido and Amass at his news conference on Friday, Amorim hit back.

Man Utd: Ruben Amorim criticises 'feeling of entitlement' at Premier League club

Manchester United will be without six senior first-team players for the trip to Aston Villa

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has condemned the "feeling of entitlement" at the club and said players should use criticism and difficult moments as fuel to prove him wrong.

This week Amorim was confronted with a 'Free Kobbie Mainoo' T-shirt, being worn by the midfielder's half-brother, in response to the England star's repeated absence from the starting line-up.

And youngsters Harry Amass and Chido Obi posted – then deleted – pictures on social media highlighting their achievements after Amorim suggested last week they were not doing well.

Netflix hits back at Diddy's criticism of 'shameful' documentary

Netflix has insisted its new documentary about Sean "Diddy" Combs, produced by rapper 50 Cent, is "not a hit piece or an act of retribution", following criticism from the jailed former hip-hop mogul.

A spokesman for Combs called the four-part documentary, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, "a shameful hit piece" that "relied on stolen footage".

It includes what Netflix described as "explosive" footage filmed in the days before his arrest, including a phone conversation with his lawyer. Combs was convicted of prostitution-related charges in July.

His spokesman said it was "fundamentally unfair, and illegal" to use his private recordings, but Netflix said the material was obtained legally.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning review – you can see why the musician is fighting to ban this horrific documentary

Netflix’s series feels like the point of no return for the rapper and mogul. It’s so thorough in its harrowing detail that it will surely block any chance he ever had of a return to stardom

If its subject gets his way, the new documentary series Sean Combs: The Reckoning might not be available on Netflix for long. On Monday, lawyers on behalf of Combs sent a cease and desist letter to the streamer, demanding that the series be withdrawn based on the inclusion of footage that they claim violates copyright, and involves discussions of “legal strategy that were not intended for public viewing”.
