The Block 2027 Sunbury homes plans revealed

The Block 2027 will transform three heritage buildings at Jacksons Hill in Sunbury into five competition homes and a separate All Stars renovation.

The Block’s 2027 plans are already facing headwinds after the discovery of repeated instances of water damage and sub-floor issues at the ex-mental asylum bought earlier this month.

New planning documents have revealed the show is intending to respond by adding a pool to each of the six homes to be built into the Sunbury Mental Hospital at Jacksons Hill that sat vacant for 15 years.

The files lodged with Heritage Victoria last week have also revealed the contestants won’t be getting a level playing field, with a 97sq m gap bigger than many apartments between the biggest and smallest homes.

Casting opens nationwide for The Block 2027 contestants

RENOVATION enthusiasts across Australia are being given the chance to swap their tools at home for one of television’s biggest building challenges, with casting officially open for The Block 2027.

Nine is searching nationwide for teams of two to compete in the 23rd season of the long-running renovation reality series, with filming expected to begin in February next year.

The call has gone out for enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking Australians willing to put their renovation skills – and relationships – to the ultimate test.

Successful applicants will need to clear their calendars, with contestants required to be available for approximately 12 weeks of filming.

I was in the room, and Scott said the show was going “full Bridgerton” as contestants would be asked to convert three buildings, previously used as an asylum, into five luxury homes.

Continued high migration and recent tax reforms could fuel a boom in prices across the bottom end of the housing market, one of the country’s top property investors has claimed.

Home prices in much of the country are currently falling, but Nathan Birch, a 41-year-old who owns just shy of 400 homes, said a different dynamic was playing out in the country’s cheapest areas.

The founder of investment group B.Invested said competition in this market was heating up because of rampant demand from recent overseas arrivals who had recently got permanent residency.

WA news LIVE: ABS data reveals WA leading the nation for rising home values

Western Australia recorded the strongest property value rise in the nation for the March quarter, according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The mean price for residential properties rose 7.2 per cent in WA and 2.5 per cent nationally, with the next strongest growth seen in Queensland, where values rose 4.6 per cent.

Victoria was the only state or territory where values fell over the quarter, recording a decline of 0.3 per cent.

“Growth in dwelling values moderated this quarter, following a strong rise in late 2025,” said Dr Mish Tan, the ABS’ head of finance statistics.

“Despite this, the value of Australia’s dwelling stock is 11.9 per cent higher than a year ago, with increases in residential property prices continuing to drive growth.

The outage spanned almost 300km along the south coast, with residents in an area from Walpole in the west, Bremer Bay in the east and Kendenup in the north all affected.

Power was lost to the large swathes of the region at 8.51am, with approximately 25,529 customers losing power.

Western Power after the Great Southern outage: restoration complete as probe continues

western power crews restored electricity to more than 25, 000 customers after a widespread outage hit the Great Southern region, an event that cut supply along almost 300 kilometres of the south coast and left communities without power during morning hours.

Power was lost across a broad corridor at 8: 51am, affecting approximately 25, 529 customers across an area stretching from Walpole in the west to Bremer Bay in the east and reaching north to Kendenup. By 9: 51am, crews had restored supply to roughly 13, 505 customers. At 10: 00am, more than 12, 020 residents remained without power as restoration work continued.

Crews ultimately restored power to the remaining homes and businesses in Albany, Denmark and surrounding areas. A spokesperson for the network operator said the outage stemmed from a fault on the busbar caused by trees affecting network infrastructure. The busbar, the spokesperson noted, is a metallic strip that conducts and distributes power from one place to another.
