Lakers vs. Mavericks prediction, odds, line: Proven model reveals 2026 NBA picks for Thursday, February 12

A Western Conference showdown on Thursday's NBA schedule has the Dallas Mavericks visiting the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavs have lost eight in a row in addition to losing No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg (foot) to injury through the All-Star break. The Lakers have dropped back-to-back outings, which followed a three-game winning streak. Los Angeles has won each of the last four meetings, including the two this season.

Tipoff is at 10 p.m. ET from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The latest Mavericks vs. Lakers odds list L.A. as the 6.5-point favorite, with the over/under at 236.5. L.A. is at -259 on the money line (risk $259 to win $100), with Dallas priced at +210.

Luka Dončić, Deandre Ayton remain out in final contest before All-Star break

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Lakers superstar Luka Dončić and starting center Deandre Ayton remain sidelined on Thursday for the Lakers' final game against the Mavericks before the All-Star break.

Dončić has missed the last three games after going to the locker room with a hamstring strain in the second quarter last Thursday against the Sixers. Ayton will miss his second consecutive game (eighth game this season) due to right knee soreness.

Deandre Ayton (right knee soreness) has been downgraded to OUT against the Mavs tonight, per the #Lakers. https://t.co/LhexffGFwn

After the Lakers' 119-115 fourth-quarter win over the Sixers, coach JJ Redick said Dončić told the staff he couldn't finish the game.

New Luka Doncic Injury Update Puts Lakers Star At Major Risk

Injured superstar guard Luka Doncic will miss his 12th game of the 2025-26 season on Thursday night, when his Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks in the final game before the NBA All-Star break.

As a result, Doncic can now afford to miss only five more games the rest of the season to maintain eligibility for All-NBA honors and awards like MVP. The Slovenian would have to appear in at least 23 of the Lakers’ remaining 28 games after the All-Star break to remain in contention for the Michael Jordan Trophy.

Doncic missed out on an All-NBA honor last year as he appeared in only a combined 50 games for the Mavericks and Lakers due to a calf injury. Prior to that, he received five consecutive All-NBA First Team selections, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to achieve the feat. In 2024, he also became just the fourth player ever to make five All-NBA First Teams within their first six years in the league.

Lakers Announce Bronny James News Amid Roster Shakeup

Over the past few days, the Los Angeles Lakers have experienced a notable roster shuffle, driven by a mix of deliberate decisions and unavoidable circumstances.

At the trade deadline, Los Angeles added Luke Kennard to address its long-standing need for perimeter shooting.

With an open roster spot still available, the expectation was that the Lakers would turn to the buyout market, where names such as Lonzo Ball, Cam Thomas, and Haywood Highsmith were widely viewed as logical fits.

Instead, general manager Rob Pelinka took an unexpected route. Rather than chasing a veteran addition, the Lakers promoted from within, signing G League standout Kobe Bufkin to a two-year contract.

Lakers 125-109 Nets (4 Feb, 2026) Game Recap

NEW YORK — — LeBron James scored 25 points, Luka Doncic had 24 and the Los Angeles Lakers rolled to a 125-109 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night in Austin Reaves' first game since Christmas.

Reaves had 15 points in 21 minutes after missing the last 19 games with a strained left calf. He entered late in the first quarter with the Lakers already well in control and helped them continue to pour it on during their 20-for-25 shooting start to the game.

Jake LaRavia scored 18 points for the Lakers, who finished 5-3 on their road trip and play next against Philadelphia at home Thursday night, a few hours after the NBA's trade deadline has passed.

Austin Reaves returns for Lakers' 125-109 rout of Nets after missing 19 games

Austin Reaves returned to the Los Angeles Lakers in Tuesday's 125-109 rout of the Brooklyn Nets after missing the team's past 19 games with a calf injury. Head coach JJ Redick announced his availability shortly before tip-off.

Reaves, sidelined with a Grade 2 left calf strain, hadn't played for the Lakers since Christmas Day. The fifth-year guard came off the bench and Redick told reporters he would play under a minutes restriction. He finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals on 3-of-9 shooting (including 1-for-5 on 3-pointers) from the floor and made 8 of his 10 free throws in 21 minutes.

“We’ve missed him in every facet,” said Redick, via ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Both as an on-ball player, off-ball player, a connector, leadership on the court, competitive spirit — competitive spirit, defensively."

Sources: Lakers get shooting help, trade for Hawks' Luke Kennard

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired guard Luke Kennard from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for guard Gabe Vincent and a 2032 second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday.

Kennard is shooting a career-best 49.7% from 3-point range this season, giving the Lakers a sharpshooter on the wings for Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and LeBron James.

The Hawks land a veteran guard, create an $11 million trade exception and pick up a draft asset.

Kennard, 29, is a career 44.2% shooter from 3-point range. He's averaging 7.9 points in 46 games this season, his ninth in the NBA.

Lakers Acquire $11 Million Sharpshooter Just Hours Before NBA Trade Deadline

The NBA trade deadline is set for Thursday afternoon, and while everyone is waiting to see what the Milwaukee Bucks will do with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, several other notable moves have already taken place across the league.

Getting in on the action just hours before the deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Hawks, trading Gabe Vincent and a second-round pick in exchange for sharpshooter Luke Kennard, who is on a one-year, $11 million deal with Atlanta.

The Lakers were in desperate need of shooting, ranking in the bottom half of the league in team three-point percentage, and Kennard brings that skill to the roster — something Vincent had struggled to provide during his time in L.A.

JJ Redick Provides Update On Rui Hachimura’s Return Timeline

The Los Angeles Lakers may finally be getting closer to some relief as they navigate one of the more frustrating injury stretches of their season. With rotation continuity hard to come by, any positive update has taken on added importance for a team trying to stay afloat in a crowded Western Conference race.

According to Dave McMenamin, head coach JJ Redick said the target is to have Rui Hachimura back early next week as he works his way back from right calf soreness. He will miss tonight’s game, with Jake LaRavia starting in his place.

Redick also confirmed that Hachimura will miss Friday and Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies, but the organization remains encouraged by how his recovery has progressed and does not believe the issue to be serious.

SALT LAKE CITY — After posting a stat line reached by only one other player in NBA history in the Los Angeles Lakers' 143-135 win over the Utah Jazz on Thursday, Luka Doncic hardly sounded impressed with himself.

"I think, honestly, I could do so much more," Doncic said after totaling 45 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and only 1 turnover. "But I think that one turnover is the best stat-wise on this stat sheet. We had seven turnovers, which is impressive for us and we won the game."

The Lakers defeated the Jazz, 143-135. The Lakers improve to 19-7 on the season, as the Jaz fall to 10-16.

Lakers player grades: Lakers survive shootout with Jazz

The key point of emphasis lately for the Los Angeles Lakers has been defense, especially perimeter defense. It is something they have struggled with plenty, and they had an opportunity to improve in that area when they visited the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Early on, the Lakers' defensive woes seemed to be about as strong as ever. They trailed by nine at the end of the first quarter and gave up 41 points on 70% shooting in the period. They started to claw their way back into the game in the second quarter, but they were still down 78-73 at halftime after allowing Keyonte George to score 18 first-half points.

The dynamic landscape of current events often brings forth significant discussions. Monitoring these developments provides crucial insights.
