England v Sri Lanka: third and deciding men’s one-day cricket international – live

And so we reach the end of a long, hot summer. England won every series they played in except one, the three-Test tussle with New Zealand, which went so badly wrong that Ben Stokes resigned as the Test captain and Brendon McCullum was sacked as the Test coach.

Joe Root went from being a great ex-captain, reeling off hundreds, to an unexpected Test captain again, winning every game but unable to reach three figures. Stephen Fleming was appointed Test coach but didn’t actually start, flying over just to say hello and make the right noises.

Jofra Archer went from being kept in cotton wool to playing almost every game and once again bowling so fast that it was thrilling to watch. Ollie Robinson returned and took so many wickets so cheaply that, as Andy Bull memorably said, he could have been wearing a top hat. Throw in Josh Tongue’s ability to blow away the tail and Gus Atkinson’s steep bounce, and England just may have another fab four to rival the one from 2005.

Sri ‌Lanka have pulled off a dramatic 16-run win over England in the second one-day international at Headingley to level the ‌three-match series despite a heroic effort from injured Jos Buttler.

England scored 9-305 in reply to Sri Lanka's 6-321, which included a century ‌from captain Kusal Mendis in a high-scoring clash on Thursday during which Buttler had looked to be taking England to a comfortable triumph before damaging his hamstring.

Sri Lanka review for LBW against Banton! Time for the legspin of Sachindu Colombage, who had a fine debut at Chester-le-Street but took some hammer in Leeds. Sri Lanka plead unsuccessfully for LBW when Banton is hit on the pad by a big legbreak, then go for a review. This is really close.

24th over: England 104-2 (Banton 67, Brook 16) Brook uses the extra pace (ish) of Liyanage to leather a drive behind square for four. Sri Lanka consider an LBW review when Brook makes a mess of an attempted lap; I think he inside edged it onto the pad.

England beat Sri Lanka by 89 runs: first men’s one-day cricket international – as it happened

Will Jacks starred with bat and ball as England proved too strong for Sri Lanka on a tricky Durham pitch

Harry Brook had called on his England players to continue the “high octane” cricket witnessed during their clean sweep in the Twenty20s but this latest victory over Sri Lanka in the first one-day international was more of a slow-burn affair.

Gone was the neck-arching carnage of the previous week and in its place, on a tired end-of-season surface, England were bowled out for 265 in 48.1 overs. Brook top-scored with 67 under a warm September sun, before his bowlers rolled the tourists for 176 to take a 1-0 lead into Thursday’s second match at Headingley.

Will Jacks has starred as England continued their white-ball stranglehold over Sri Lanka this year by battling to an 89-run win in the series-opening ODI at Chester-le-Street.

Last week's 3-0 T20 series clean sweep placed low expectations on these three ODIs but Sri Lanka are one spot above England in the 50-over world rankings and restricted their opponents to 265.

18th over: Sri Lanka 76-2 (Kusal Mendis 25, P Rathnayeke 8) Big Overs, known more commonly as Jamie Overton, replaces Josh Tongue. An extremely heavy ball surprises Kusal Mendis, who flaps it into the leg side for a single. Rathnayeke clips nicely past midwicket for a couple.

“Mark Wood: what a legend,” writes Rory Young. “If he could have stayed fit more he’d probably be our best genuine fast bowler of the modern era – and that’s from a Jofra fan!”

India seize control of Colombo Test after Jurel ton

India are eyeing a series sweep after Sri Lanka lost two quick wickets before the close of day two

Dhruv ‌Jurel's unbeaten 115 has powered India to a commanding first innings 9-503 declared on day two of ‌the second and final Test against Sri Lanka.

Rain and bad light meant India could ‌bowl only three overs, which proved enough to prise out Lahiru Udara and nightwatcher Prabath Jayasuriya to leave Sri Lanka 2-8 at the close of play in Colombo on Monday, still 495 runs behind.

India took control after a resilient lower-order batting display led by No.7 Jurel's second Test hundred, an innings studded with nine fours and ‌two sixes.

India vs Sri Lanka live score, 2nd Test Day 1: IND (239/3) Padikkal leads India's charge in final session

Hello and welcome to India Today's live coverage of Sri Lanka vs India, 2nd Test Day 1 in Colombo.

A superb hundred from young Devdutt Padikkal. What a series this is turning out to be for him!

A really patient knock for the batter, once again a mature one in this series. In the absence of Sai Sudarshan, Padikkal has really stepped up for the Indian team.

What do we think? The new permanent No.3 of the Test team?

SL vs IND Live Score: India (260/3 in 71 overs). Ravindra Jadeja (30*), Devdutt Padikkal (101*).

There is a slightly worrying development with Rishabh Pant. He has now been seen without his pads as the India medical team continues to assess his left forearm after that blow from Lahiru Kumara.

Sri Lanka Women will seek to wrap up the three-match T20I series 3-0 when they face Pakistan Women in the third and final T20I clash of the series on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka managed to maintain their form throughout their tour after winning the previous ODI series 2-1 against their opponents.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will be aiming to avoid defeat and end the tour on a high while salvaging some pride.

The Sporting News has all you need to know about the Sri Lanka Women vs. Pakistan Women 3rd T20I, including date, time, and how and where to watch it.

    A debutant’s 46 and Athapaththu’s 15-ball 40 hand Sri Lanka the series in Dambulla

Sanjana Kavindi made 46 from 24 balls in her first international innings and won the match award as Sri Lanka chased 176 with 14 balls to spare. They lead Pakistan 2-0 with a match left.

Sanjana Kavindi walked out to bat in Dambulla on Sunday with Sri Lanka 55 for 2, a target of 176 in front of her and no international innings behind her. She made 46 from 24 balls, won the match award on debut, and by the time she was caught and bowled the game had effectively been decided. Sri Lanka won by six wickets with 14 balls to spare and lead the three-match series 2-0.

Muneeba Ali chose to bat and then made the decision look right. She and Shawaal Zulfiqar put on 90 inside 10 overs, the powerplay went for 68 without a wicket falling, and Pakistan’s fifty arrived in 23 balls. For half the innings this was a total heading somewhere north of 190.

ICC women’s T20I team rankings: Updated table ahead of Sri Lanka vs Pakistan series

The three-T20I series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan commences on July 31. Here’s the updated ICC women’s T20I team rankings ahead of the series.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan were both knocked out of the group stage in the T20 World Cup that concluded earlier this month. Sri Lanka stunned New Zealand and also registered wins over Ireland and Scotland, but losses to the West Indies and England meant they couldn’t make it to the semifinals.

Sri Lanka have shuffled their squad for the series against Pakistan while also keeping their core intact. They have called up U19 players Sanjana Kavindi and Chamudi Praboda while 19-year-old pacer Rashmika Sewwandi has also been recalled. The rest of their squad remains largely the same and they will hope to end their 11-year winless run against Pakistan in a bilateral T20I series.

Sri Lanka claim maiden T20I series win over West Indies

Sri Lanka Women rounded off their first-ever T20I series victory against West Indies with an emphatic nine-wicket win in Grenada on Tuesday, March 3. One-nil down, the hosts had an opportunity to level the series at best, after the first game fell prey to rain, but suffered from yet another poor batting display.

It was Sri Lanka’s first bilateral series win against West Indies in seven attempts. Perera was adjudged the Player of the Match, while Chamari Athapaththu bagged the Player of the Series award.

Brief Scores: West Indies 119/5 in 20 overs (Chinelle Henry 32*, Deandra Dottin 28, Inoka Ranaweera 2-16, Sugandika Kumari 2-32) lost to Sri Lanka 121/1 in 17.4 overs (Hasini Perera 52*, Imesha Dulani 34*, Afy Fletcher 1-14) by nine wickets.

West Indies 218 for 4 (Matthews 100, Taylor 38, Henry 32*, Madara 2-33) beat Sri Lanka 217 for 7 (Samarawickrama 70, Dilhari 45*, Matthews 2-33, Ramharack 2-39) by six wickets

Hayley Matthews' tenth ODI century led West Indies to a six-wicket victory in the final match of the series against Sri Lanka and gave them their first points in the new Women's Championship cycle.

Sri Lanka had already secured the series but couldn't clinch a whitewash as Matthews dominated: she started the match by removing opposite number Chamari Athapaththu in the first over of the contest and then compiled an 118-ball hundred, which took West Indies most of the way in their chase.
