Former champion Wyndham Clark has seen his four-shot overnight lead halved as the first round of the US Open concluded early on Friday morning at Shinnecock Hills.

Clark, the 2024 victor and one of four previous winners occupying the top four places heading into round two, parred his remaining two holes after returning at 6.35am local time to sign for a six-under-par 64.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau came to Shinnecock Hills with points to prove, and through the majority of the first round of the 126th U.S. Open, all three are doing exactly that.

Play was halted at 7:05 a.m. local time when fog swallowed the course, with a two-hour suspension before resuming at 9:05 a.m. Officials had already slowed green speeds and modified hole locations ahead of expected wind gusts approaching 40 mph, and the delay pushed the schedule back with the first round spilling into Friday morning.

Dustin Johnson melts down at US Open, goes from contention to cut line

For a moment at the 2026 U.S. Open, Dustin Johnson appeared set to contend at a major for the first time in years. Then, in a matter of five holes, his second round Friday, June 19, turned into a disaster.

After pulling to within one shot of U.S. Open leader Wyndham Clark with a birdie at No. 10, Johnson completely melted down and went from contention to possibly needing a late push to just make the cut for the weekend.

The sequence began with a double bogey on the par 3 11th in which he hit his tee shot into a bunker and watched the ensuing bunker shot trickle back into the sand thanks to the tricky greens at Shinnecock Hills. Back-to-back bogeys followed as Johnson's round began to unravel.

Opposition leader Steven Miles has apologised after it was recommended he be found in contempt over deliberately misleading Queensland parliament.

Mr Miles was referred to an ethics committee last year after he alleged Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie deliberately misled parliament by failing to declare a conflict of interest during the state election.

Deputy opposition leader Cameron Dick and shadow industrial relations minister Grace Grace were also investigated but cleared by the committee.

Opposition leader Steven Miles has apologised after it was recommended he be found in contempt over deliberately misleading Queensland parliament.

Queensland minister denies wrongdoing over shares disclosure

Queensland Child Safety Minister Amanda Camm has updated her register of interests to disclose shares in family companies, insisting she believed her original declaration was correct.

In a tense parliamentary debate, Ms Camm dismissed the allegations as "gutter politics".

In a separate matter, Labor yesterday referred Ms Camm to the corruption watchdog over alleged undeclared conflicts of interest linked to her relationship with Olympics Minister Tim Mander.

Queensland's under-fire Child Safety Minister Amanda Camm has defended updating her parliamentary register of interests, labelling opposition attacks as "gutter politics".

The Philippine Senate was locked down with military personnel seen entering the building where a senator wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) had sought refuge.

Rounds of gunfire were heard but officials have not revealed who fired the shots. They said there were no casualties.

Senator Ronald Dela Rosa said earlier he believed his arrest was imminent and urged Filipinos to prevent it. He is safe and with security personnel, officials said.

He is accused by the ICC of killing dozens of people when he was police chief during former president Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs, in which thousands of alleged dealers were shot and killed. Duterte has been held at The Hague since March 2025.

The International Criminal Court is seeking his arrest on charges of crimes against humanity over the country's deadly 'war on drugs'.

The Philippines president has vowed to find the people responsible for firing gunshots in the senate, where a politician wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been hiding out to avoid arrest.

Chaos in Philippines as Duterte ally wanted by ICC takes refuge in senate to avoid arrest

Former police chief Ronald dela Rosa spends night at senate office after another Duterte ally offers protective custody

The unusual pursuit was captured on CCTV cameras inside the Philippine senate. Ronald dela Rosa, a longtime ally of the former president Rodrigo Duterte, raced along the hallways of the upper house complex, stumbling on the staircase, as he fled government agents.

“They want to forcibly bring me to The Hague, to surrender me there,” Dela Rosa said later on a Facebook livestream, pleading for public support.

He served as police chief under Duterte and is named as a co-perpetrator in a case at the international criminal court (ICC) accusing the former leader of crimes against humanity over his anti-drugs crackdowns, in which thousands of people were killed. The ICC confirmed on Monday night it had issued an arrest warrant for Dela Rosa.

The Assembly of Experts of Iran has settled on the son of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as its next supreme leader, his supporters claim, with the announcement delayed by a dispute over voting procedures.

If it is decided that the assembly does not have to meet in person to vote, its secretariat could simply declare that a consensus had been reached.

â€œThe name of Khamenei will continue,â€ said Hosseinali Eshkevari, a member of the council tasked with electing a new leader. â€œThe vote has been cast and will be announced soon.â€

Who is Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's new supreme leader?

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was killed in US-Israeli strikes, has been chosen as his successor.

Unlike his father, the 56-year-old has largely kept a low profile. He has never held government office, nor given public speeches or interviews, and only a limited number of photos and videos of him have ever been published.

But for years there have been rumours that he held considerable influence behind the scenes in Iran.

US diplomatic cables, which were published by WikiLeaks in the late 2000s, described him as "the power behind the robes" who was widely regarded as a "capable and forceful" figure within the regime, according to AP news agency.

Charismatic US civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, an eloquent Baptist minister raised in the segregated South who became a close associate of Martin Luther King Jr and twice ran for the Democratic presidential nomination, has died at age 84, his family said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Our father was a servant leader – not only to our family, but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world,” the Jackson family said.

Angus Taylor becomes Liberal leader

Angus Taylor is the leader of the federal Liberal Party after prevailing in a partyroom meeting in Canberra.

He replaces Sussan Ley, the first woman to hold the role, who was removed after just nine months.

Mr Taylor won by a comfortable margin with 34 votes to Ms Ley's 17, according to several Liberals present.

Jane Hume was chosen as deputy leader, the first senator to hold the role since 1990.

Four candidates nominated including incumbent Ted O'Brien, Dan Tehan and Melissa Price.

Ms Price was eliminated first with two votes, and then Mr Tehan in the second round with 11 votes.

Sussan Ley took this job with ambition and promise. But things soon unravelled

In the weeks after she was narrowly elected by her colleagues as the federal Liberal Party’s first female leader, Sussan Ley sounded full of the optimism that often comes with fresh starts.

She promised to be a new leader, with a new tone, new team and new agenda. She wanted to move her party to the so-called sensible centre. She would win back Australian women, young people, cities and multicultural communities. She was going to listen to her colleagues, and forge a cohesive and consultative party room process that catered to a range of views.

Those many promises made for a mighty assignment. Nine months later, they’re mostly unfulfilled.
