Lactalis Australia pays $59,400 misleading labelling penalty

Lactalis Australia is a major dairy processor that produces a wide range of dairy products across brands including Pauls, Harvey Fresh, Oak, Vaalia and Ice Break. The company’s multinational parent group, Lactalis Group, also recently acquired Fonterra’s global Consumer business and associated brands.

The ACCC alleges that Lactalis’ Golden North ‘Country Fresh’ 2L milk and Ferguson Valley ‘WA Dairy Fresh’ 2L milk were labelled as fresh milk, when each contained substantial amounts of powdered reconstituted ingredients.

The Lactalis products were identified in an ACCC investigation of the milk processing industry, which included obtaining information and reviewing the products of several major dairy processors and retailers – finding that processors and retailers largely label their fresh milk products accurately.

Major fashion retailer shuts down website as it prepares to close final store

A major fashion retailer has shut down its website as its final brick-and-mortar store is set to close its doors this week.

High street retailer Glue has officially closed for good, with the website shut down and final store set to close its doors this week.

Glue’s closure was announced in February by parent company Accent Group, which said all final stores would be sold on or shut down this year.

As of today, Glue’s website now offers no products and instead shows a thank you message to previous shoppers.

“After many years of bringing you the styles you love, Glue Store has permanently closed – both in store and online.

Another major retailer gone as economic pain hits home

Major fashion retailer Glue Store, which posted an $8.4 million loss this year, announces it is shutting.

The closure follows the collapse of other major Australian retailers in recent days and coincides with a slowing economy.

An economist says the negative impacts from successive interest rate rises this year are yet to be fully felt.

"After many years of bringing you the styles you love, Glue Store has permanently closed — both in store and online," Glue said in a statement.

"We are so grateful for your loyalty and support over the years."

Glue's closure follows Barbeques Galore's announcement that it will shut down, and Lincraft's move to shut all its physical stores.

Emerging playmaker Tom Duffy is reportedly on the verge of signing a two-year extension with the Brisbane Broncos, keeping him at Red Hill until the end of 2028.

As revealed by CODE Sports, the 22-year-old has not formally signed the fresh contract, but his management and the Broncos are in the advanced stages of negotiations.

Duffy, who has played three games for the Broncos this season, has been handed the No. 6 jersey and will partner Adam Reynolds in the halves for this weekend’s Queensland derby against the Gold Coast Titans at Suncorp Stadium after coach Michael Maguire sensationally benched Ezra Mam.

Brisbane coach Michael Maguire has stuck to his guns and sensationally kept star playmaker Ezra Mam on the bench against South Sydney.

The 23-year-old has been listed at No.18 and Tom Duffy preferred for the second week in a row in the starting five-eighth role against the Rabbitohs at Homebush on Thursday night.

Mam, on the extended bench for Queensland for the opening State of Origin clash, was demoted to the bench by Maguire after the dire 30-26 loss to St George Illawarra in round 13.

Major wine retailer puts vineyards up for sale amid industry-wide squeeze

The wine industry has been in a state of transition after a worldwide oversupply of wine in recent years. (ABC News: Hamish Harty)

Australia's largest retail drinks network, Endeavour Group, is shifting away from production and selling key vineyards and a bottling facility.

The sale comes as industry pains reach Australia's premium wine regions, with rising costs and a supply .

Producers have limited options to pass on increasing costs, so shoppers are unlikely to see higher prices.

As Australia's wine industry continues through a period of major change, even established operations are facing mounting pressure.

Now, one of the country's largest retailers is stepping away from production.

Blow to SA wine: Mass closure of cellar doors, vineyards and wine bottling

The operations of award-winning vineyards and cellar doors – including Chapel Hill in McLaren Vale – are among numerous SA wine sites being shut down by the owner of Dan Murphy’s.

Wine and liquor giant Endeavour Group will sell the famed Chapel Hill’s vineyards and heritage cellar door as part of a business restructure impacting numerous wine sites across the state.

Announced this morning, the company that owns Dan Murphy’s and BWS is also selling off vineyards and cellar doors at Riddoch Coonawarra and Krondorf Barossa, and will close a McLaren Vale bottling facility later this year.

The company planned to slash its grape production by more than 80 per cent in a bid to reduce investments in its grape growing portfolio, it said in a statement.

Polygon faces major blow as Polymarket migration odds climb

Polymarket will cease operating its leading prediction market on the Polygon network before 2026 ends, according to traders placing bets on Predict.fun, who have placed the odds that the tandem sticking together past this year at just 26%. Bettors on the same market put the odds of a Polymarket migrating to its own chain at 67%, climbing from 55% earlier this month.

The curtains are about to drop on the days of Polygon hosting 100% of all of Polymarket’s activity based on recent betting action on the YZi Labs-backed prediction platform Predict.fun. Those odds pour fuel to the fire of earlier Cryptopolitan reports that have pointed out possibilities of Polygon losing its leading source of network activity and revenue generation.

Predict.fun has a new update: "Which blockchain will Polymarket migrate to in 2026?" The probability of the "new Polymarket chain" is currently reported at 67%

According to the CatcherPredict channel, the prediction market Predict.fun has launched the prediction event "Which blockchain will Polymarket migrate to in 2026?" with a total transaction volume reaching $1.701 million.

Among them, the probability of "new Polymarket chain" migration is currently reported at 67%; the probability of "not migrating in 2026" is currently reported at 26%; the probability for Arbitrum is currently reported at 2%; and the probabilities for Avalanche, Base, MegaETH, Monad, Solana, BNB Chain, and other chains are currently reported at 1%.

The settlement source for this event is the official announcement of the migration from Polymarket (press release, Shayne Coplan, or official X account), non-test transactions occurring on the new chain, and the underlying L1 not being Polygon. If the migration is not completed by December 31, 2026, at 23:59 (ET), the resolution will be "not migrating in 2026."

Ukraine has launched its second-biggest drone assault on Russia since war broke out in February 2022.

Air defences downed 347 Ukrainian drones across 20 Russian regions overnight, with further drone attacks also disrupting flights in Moscow.

The Kremlin has ordered mobile internet access in Moscow to be switched off for Victory Day commemorations on Saturday.

Ukraine has launched a major drone attack on numerous Russian regions as tensions mount between the two countries over ceasefire plans for Russia's upcoming Victory Day celebrations.

The assault came after Moscow disregarded Kyiv's proposal of a ceasefire that was meant to begin on Tuesday, local time, and launched a fresh round of attacks.

Russian air defences have shot down 347 Ukrainian drones, Russia's defence ministry says, in what appeared to be a major attack after Moscow spurned Kyiv's ceasefire earlier in the week and tension mounted over safety at Russia's upcoming Victory Day celebrations.

Incoming drones were destroyed over 20 Russian regions, including Moscow, according to the defence ministry, in Ukraine's second-biggest aerial attack since Russia's all-out invasion more than four years ago.

Ukrainian drone hits upmarket Moscow high-rise ahead of Victory Day celebrations

A Ukrainian drone hit an upmarket residential high-rise in Moscow in the early hours of Monday, causing visible damage to the façade of the building but no casualties.

It was the third night in a row the Russian capital came under attack from drones, days before Russia holds a scaled-back parade to mark the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany.

An unverified video circulating on social media showed firemen entering a heavily damaged flat covered in dust and rubble, with blown-out windows. Another showed drone debris strewn across the street below.

Two other drones were intercepted, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. Vnukovo and Domodedovo international airports suspended operations overnight.

    Major bank hikes mortgage rates

The bank was lifting all rates from one-year to five years by from six to 20 basis points. (Source: istock.com)

ASB is the latest bank to raise mortgage rates, citing uncertain global financial markets and increased wholesale rates.

The bank would lift all rates from one year to five years by six to 20 basis points.

"Global financial markets have been volatile, and ongoing geopolitical tensions have driven sustained increases in wholesale interest rates," the bank's executive general manager for personal banking Adam Boyd said.

"These rates underpin lending and deposit pricing in New Zealand and reflect broader trends across international markets as economies navigate the current outlook."

    Rate hike pressure builds

The rise and rise of wholesale money costs has brought another major bank home loan rate rise. This time it is ASB.

Its new rate card has been set near or at the upper end of the rates from the banks with the highest rates. (See the chart below).

Only ASB's fixed six month rate remains unchanged and matching most of their main rivals.

But all other, longer fixed rates put them 10 basis points (bps) to 40 bps higher than the lowest other main banks, which presently are BNZ and Westpac.

At the same time, ASB has raised its term deposit rates. But like other banks before them, not for any terms that savers prefer. Their one year term deposit (TD) rate is now up to 3.75% (+5 bps). ASB is the one main bank with a 5% TD rate offer – for a five year term.

Over 20-Hour Flights: Inside Qatar Airways' Brand-New Ultra-Long Route

In just under two months' time, Qatar Airways is set to resume its flights from its main hub at Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) to Auckland Airport (AKL) in New Zealand. This is a facility the carrier previously served daily, but it had to temporarily suspend these flights amid the outbreak of the conflict in nearby Iran. It is important to note, however, that the resumed route will operate with a stop en route.

Indeed, these flights will pause at Adelaide Airport (ADL) in Australia for an hour and a half in both directions on their way between Doha and Auckland. This will mean that the two-leg flights, as a whole, will have block times in the region of 20 hours. Let's dive into the data and examine this route resumption.

CGT like it’s 1999: Chalmers leans towards scrapping Howard-Costello tax discount

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them anytime.

A return to the original way of taxing capital gains on property under the Hawke and Keating governments is firming as a centrepiece of the May budget as Treasurer Jim Chalmers prepares the final shape of his fiscal blueprint.

This masthead can reveal that Chalmers is leaning towards a return to the pre-1999 system rather than reducing the current 50 per cent discount on capital gains, which critics claim contributed to a surge of property investor activity and pushed prices out of the reach of young home buyers.

The move would likely deliver a small increase in tax and dampen investor activity, which has accelerated to record levels in those parts of the property market dominated by first-time and low-income owner-occupiers.
