    Joe Root became the first English batter to surpass 23,000 international runs during the first One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on September 22.

    The 35-year-old reached this milestone in his 394th international match, joining an elite group of eight batters worldwide. Root required only three runs to achieve the landmark but was dismissed for 44 runs off 52 deliveries, including five fours.

    Before this series, Root had amassed 14,278 runs in Test cricket and 7,826 in ODIs, which include 20 centuries. His overall performance has made him England’s leading run-scorer in both formats.

    The actor’s history-making Emmys win was a recognition of female performers who refuse to placate.

    The actor Jean Smart began her acceptance speech at the Emmys tonight with a request: “Just the men stay standing,” she said to the applauding crowd before her. “The girls get to sit down.”

    She had just won her fifth-straight award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on HBO Max’s Hacks, about the tender and testy friendship between an unfiltered comedy legend (played by Smart) and an apprehensive Gen Z comedy writer (Hannah Einbinder). As she clutched her statuette, Smart acknowledged the squeezing and taping and blister-inducing heels that had likely gone into her peers’ glamorous award-show getups.     Match Report: NSW Cup Round 25 vs Knights

    Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have defeated the Newcastle Knights 40-12 in Round 25 of the Knock On Effect NSW Cup at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.

    After a tightly contested first half, Manly took control after the break, scoring six unanswered tries to secure a convincing 40-12 victory.

    The impressive victory against the third-placed Knights, was the Sea Eagles’ first since the opening round of the season.

    Manly opened the scoring in the third minute when fullback Tex Hoy powered through two defenders to score against his former club. Hoy was unable to convert, leaving Manly ahead 4-0.

    The Knights hit back in the 13th minute when a series of offloads created space for back-rower Brodie Jones to crash over. Fullback Connor Votano converted to give Newcastle an 8-4 lead.

    ‘Wobbler’: Scott Pye makes light of Supercars showrun shunt

    Fan footage has emerged from the showcase event where the #888 car ploughed into a water-filled plastic barrier and drove away without significant damage.

    Although it was not initially clear who was behind the wheel, Will Brown’s co-driver Scott Pye has confirmed he was at the wheel.

    Pye was one of a handful of drivers tasked with driving the V8 for a series of demonstrations across Europe.

    Taking to his Apex Hunters United account, Pye made light of the moment that happened in front of thousands of spectators.

    James Courtney believes changes may not be a "silver bullet" for fellow Supercars champion Will Brown, who maintains he wants to be on the “same playing field" as his rivals.

    Last week, it emerged that Brown’s #888 Red Bull Ampol Ford had been running an undersized engine restrictor. Alongside a fix, Triple Eight has committed to moving Brown into its spare chassis for Ipswich.

    Brown, who is seventh in the championship, recently broke his silence on his Lucky Dogs podcast, admitting he is feeling relief, disappointment and anger over the situation.

    Brown — who failed to qualify inside the top 10 for the last six races — also claimed the incorrect part had cost him 0.15s per lap on average, and explained that he had to be inadvertently strategic with his racecraft.

    ‘Significant negative’: Supercars, top team trade accusations over costly 1mm mistake on star’s car

    Supercars has admitted to supplying Triple Eight with an undersized air restrictor that the team says hamstrung Will Brown’s performance this season, though the category has argued that the part was intended for demonstration events only.

    Reigning teams champion Triple Eight committed to stripping down Brown’s Ford Mustang and rebuilding the car with a new chassis for next weekend’s Ipswich Super 440 after another trying round in Perth, where the 2024 champion finished two of the three races outside the top 10.

    Team boss Jamie Whincup said it was only during this process that the team realised the car had been fitted with an unusually small airflow restrictor contrary to the size stipulated by the regulations.

    Who did Tigers get for Tarik Skubal? A look at the three prospects

    The Tigers will get three of the Los Angeles Dodgers' top 20 prospects in a blockbuster deal that went down late Saturday night, ahead of Monday's much-anticipated trade deadline, The News' Chris McCosky confirmed.

    The prospects come from one of the most highly regarded farm systems in the game.

    ▶ His story: He's having an absolutely monster season for the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate in Tulsa, Okla., with 23 home runs and 87 RBIs. He's slashing .293/.369/.530 for an OPS of .899. Hope has struck out 106 times and walked 45 times. He also has stolen 18 bases. Hope, who bats left-handed and is "built like a running back" at 5-foot-10 and 193 pounds, according to an MLB.com scouting report, was ranked the No. 63 prospect in the game, according to Baseball America, before the 2026 season. The Dodgers acquired him in a trade with the Cubs in January 2024. He's ranked No. 5 in the Dodgers' system, according to MLB Pipeline.
