Breaking: Man reportedly fires gun in vicinity of WA town

WA police are responding to reports of a man with a firearm in the vicinity of Mullewa, a town 450 kilometres north of Perth.

In a statement just after 6pm, police said significant resources were being deployed to the area.

They have urged anyone in the vicinity to follow the instructions of police.

According to the 2021 ABS census, Mullewa has a population of just over 350 people.

The small rural community is located in WA's mid-west region and is about 100 km inland from the coastal city of Geraldton.

WA Police are responding to reports of a gunman near the Mid West town of Mullewa.

Significant resources have been deployed to the area after reports of a man armed with a firearm about 6pm on Wednesday.

Anyone in the vicinity is ordered to follow instructions from police.

Up to four St John WA appliances are on standby at a command centre at Mullewa Police Station.

Authorities were also called to an incident in Nunierra — about 72km north of Mullewa — about 5.35pm and attended to a woman, aged in her 40s, with non-life threatening injuries.

Mullewa Railway Hotel owner Dimitri Christoforou said he was still serving guests at the pub, but was considering locking the front doors because he was “concerned”.

Members of the public have been urged to follow the directions of police as they respond to reports a man is armed with a gun in Western Australia’s Mid-West region.

“Significant” police resources are being sent to an area near Mullewa, 450 kilometres north of Perth, on Wednesday evening.

“WA Police are currently responding to reports of a man armed with a firearm,” authorities said.

“Anyone in the vicinity is urged to follow the instructions of police.”

Motion/Spectre Powerboats Man Jay Pilini Dies

An influential figure in the high-performance marine world, Motion and Spectre catamaran-brand founder Jay Pilin has died. A longtime Southwest Florida resident, Pilini was 64 years old when he passed away on Christmas Eve.

Ryan Beckley, the owner of the Kinetic Animation graphics shop in Bradenton Fla., who got to know Pilini during the years through their shared involvement in the offshore racing and high-performance pleasure-boating worlds.

“Jay was a long-time part of the Southwest Florida powerboating scene and a good dude,” Beckley said “He founded Motion in the 1980s and Spectre in the mid-to-late 1990s, then later founded Pilini Powerboats, which also built center consoles, in the early 2000s. The 25 Motion cats he built were great in offshore racing’s S and C classes, and his 35 Motions were great in the triple-outboard Pro Stock, Modified and C and D classes, Later, his Spectre cats ran well in the S and P classes. And his 30-, 32- and 36-footers were awesome all-around pleasure boats.”

A man has died after he was stabbed late on Christmas Eve, with residents of Perth suburb Aubin Grove reporting banging sounds shortly before police and ambulance officers arrived.

Police say the man was found with stab wounds about 10:40pm on Wednesday near Talisker Gate.

He was taken to a Perth hospital but died soon after.

Forensic officers were combing the car park of a shopping complex on the street where the man is understood to have been found.

A man has died after being discovered with stab wounds on a street in Perth’s southern suburbs overnight.

The incident occurred on Talisker Gate in Aubin Grove around 10.40pm on Wednesday.

A WA Police spokeswoman said homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

“He was conveyed to hospital but sadly died a short time later,” she said.

“Inquiries are underway, and investigators are urging anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, or who has any information, CCTV, mobile phone, or dash-cam footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or report online via www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

Man charged with assault and forcible confinement

A 22-year-old Belconnen man has been charged with multiple offences after he allegedly bound and assaulted a man in a Reid unit.

ACT Policing was called to a unit complex on Ainslie Avenue in Reid at about 9.05am yesterday (Tuesday, 23 December 2025) after nearby workers heard a man calling for help.

Officers were directed to the unit where the calls were coming from, and the door was answered by a man and a woman, with calls for assistance heard from a second man.

The man and woman allegedly fled the scene by jumping of a first-floor balcony. The man, a 22-year-old from Belconnen, was arrested a short distance away. The woman was unable to be located.

The Running Man Worldwide Box Office – Nears The Global Total Of Meg Ryan & Russell Crowe’s Early 2000s Action Thriller

The dystopian action thriller The Running Man, the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, is now in its third week in theaters. With a current global haul of $60.5 million, the Edgar Wright-directed feature has yet to enter 2025’s top 50 highest-grossing titles (as per Box Office Mojo). To reach that milestone, it must surpass the worldwide total of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2025 re-release), which stands at $61.8 million – a target it’s expected to hit in the coming days.

After crossing the $60 million mark, the Glen Powell-led film is also closing in on the global earnings of another 2025 dystopian thriller based on a Stephen King novel, The Long Walk, which has accumulated $63.1 million worldwide. This means The Running Man needs around $2.6 million more to overtake it. Before reaching that benchmark, the film is also on track to surpass the global total of an early-2000s action thriller starring Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe. We’re talking about the 2000 film Proof of Life. Here’s how much more The Running Man needs to earn to outperform that title at the worldwide box office.

Looks like I missed Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man, already out of most theaters and dropping precipitously at the box office (I don’t care about the money, just who’s seeing what and when; I had no idea Zootopia was popular enough to dethrone Wicked in its second weekend. And I think about this.) The Running Man was already a hit in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, directed by Paul Michael Glaser from one of Stephen King’s Richard Bachman novels. It’s a good premise: in a dystopian future similar to Death Race 2000, the most popular program on television is trained assassins (“stalkers”) hunting down the accused and the convicted (“runners”). You take the world of John Carpenter’s They Live, push it up 100 years, and you get something like The Running Man. You can see it in most of Paul Verhoeven’s work, just on the tip of the horizon. Hey, I’d buy that for a dollar.

Stephen King give high praise to the upcoming film

Stephen King, the original author of The Running Man, has given high praise to the upcoming film adaptation.

The Running Man follows the story of Ben Richards (played by Glen Powell), an unemployed family man who enters a global survival program where he must endure 30 days of being hunted by brutal pursuers in exchange for a massive cash prize. Attention is now focused on the special points of praise that Stephen King, author of the original novel, personally shared.

After watching the film, King remarked, “It’s fantastic. It feels like a modern-day Die Hard—a thrilling ride!” raising expectations for the new adaptation. And prime suspect is the sweet-natured, thoughtful junior priest Father Jud Duplenticy, amusingly played by Josh OâConnor, who was upset by the Monsignorâs heartless attitudes and was caught on video threatening to cut him out of the church like a cancer. Atheist Blanc faces off with the young priest, a worldview culture-clash which leads to an extraordinary encounter with the Resurrection itself.

Wake Up Dead Man review: Benoit Blanc's third Knives Out mystery is engrossing, and very funny

Agatha Christie wrote dozens of Hercule Poirot mysteries. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote over 60 Sherlock Holmes adventures. Rian Johnson, meanwhile, is on only his third Benoit Blanc whodunnit. But give it time. On the strength of Wake Up Dead Man, it feels like he and Daniel Craig’s Blanc could be solving murders for years to come.

Completing an unofficial trilogy, the filmmaker and star have pulled off one of the most consistent and rewarding cinematic triptychs in recent memory, each entry arriving at a singular mood, while maintaining, at its centre, its loquacious recurring hero, the “mere passive obser-vuh of the truth”.
