Already sidelined with a back injury, which ruled him out of the series-opener, Bennett stated that he is still at least one month away from returning to the field.
“His back is no worse, it’s just taken a little longer to rehab, that’s all,” Bennett told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Latrell out of frame for Origin II but Daley backs Moses to reclaim Blues No.6
Injured centre Latrell Mitchell is out of the selection frame for the second State of Origin clash in Melbourne, but NSW coach Laurie Daley has confirmed Mitchell Moses is likely to reclaim the No.6 jersey if he proves his fitness for Parramatta next Monday.
South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett said on Sunday strike centre Mitchell would not feature for the Rabbitohs when they take on Manly on Thursday, and is unlikely to return from a back injury until round 17 against Parramatta – after the second Origin game on June 18 at the MCG.
Mitchell was the form centre in the NRL before he injured his back against the Knights and missed a game against Cronulla, before returning for Magic Round. But he broke down again and then ruled himself out of contention for the Blues for Origin I.

Latrell Mitchell set for five-week layoff as Souths star officially ruled out of State of Origin 2
South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett has revealed they’re not expecting Latrell Mitchell back until Round 17 at the earliest, officially ruling him out of State of Origin 2. Mitchell suffered a back injury in Round 9 against Newcastle, but returned in Round 11 after a week off.
However he aggravated the bulging disk issue against the Dolphins and was forced to miss Origin 1 for NSW. Souths were initially hopeful he’d be back in Round 14 next week, which would have put him in line to be available for Origin 2.
But Bennett revealed on Sunday that Mitchell’s progress isn’t coming along like they would have expected. The Rabbitohs coach said Mitchell is now targeting a Round 17 return against Parramatta, which is the final round before teams are picked for Origin 3.
