As millions of Gen Zers face unemployment, McDonald's CEO dishes out some tough love career advice for navigating the market: ‘You've got to make things happen for yourself’

For Gen Z, building a career can feel less like climbing a ladder and more like chasing a moving target—as a cooling job market and rising competition blur once guaranteed paths to success. But McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski offers no sympathy.

Instead, the 57-year-old executive is offering some blunt advice for aspiring young professionals: whether the market is hot or cold, no one is going to give you a handout. Your career is yours to build, and the onus is on you to make it happen.

“Remember, nobody cares about your career as much as you do,” Kempczinski said in a recent Instagram video. “You’ve got to own it, you’ve got to make things happen for yourself.”

McDonald’s CEO Warns That His Career Advice May ‘Hurt Your Feelings’

The executive shared some straightforward career guidance with his more than 50,000 Instagram followers.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski recently shared a piece of “tough love” career advice that he openly admits may “hurt your feelings.”

In a recent video posted to Instagram, titled “Tough Love with the McDonald’s CEO,” Kempczinski urged professionals to stop waiting for someone else to manage their careers and instead take full ownership of their paths.

Kempczinski’s central point is blunt: “Nobody cares about your career as much as you do.” You shouldn’t believe that your boss, mentor or company is charting your next move or guaranteeing your next opportunity, even if they are supportive.

Nepal estimates millions in damages from September protests

Kathmandu (AFP) – Nepal on Thursday estimated that the country suffered losses of about $586 million in September's deadly anti-corruption protests that ousted the government.

The youth-led demonstrations, initially triggered by anger over a brief government ban on social media, were fuelled by deeper frustration over economic hardship and corruption.

After a police crackdown killed young protestors, the riots spread and on the second day more than 2,500 structures were torched, looted or damaged.

The committee formed to assess the damage caused during the protest submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday, the prime minister's secretariat said in a statement.

Millions of disgruntled concertgoers likely to sue Ticketmaster

LOS ANGELES (CN) — Millions of people who bought concert tickets through Ticketmaster are inching closer to proceeding as a class on claims that Live Nation Entertainment and its Ticketmaster subsidiary used their monopoly power to inflate ticket prices.

U.S. District Judge George Wu took the consumer’s motion for class certification under submission at a hearing Thursday in Los Angeles federal court.

Although the judge’s tentative decision wasn’t made publicly available, the tenor of the arguments before him indicated that he was likely to grant the motion.

To be able to proceed as a class will give the plaintiffs more leverage to try to negotiate a significant settlement because Live Nation could potentially face billions of dollars in damages if the case goes before a jury. Under federal antitrust law, plaintiffs are entitled to treble their actual damages if they prevail.

Millions of customers of Ticketmaster may soon advance with an antitrust class action lawsuit against the ticketing powerhouse and its parent company, Live Nation. Recently, U.S. District Judge George Wu concluded a hearing on the motion for class certification, taking it under advisement.

The consumer lawsuit, initiated in January 2022, seeks monetary compensation on behalf of a vast number of ticket buyers, both original and resale. The plaintiffs argue that Live Nation and Ticketmaster have established a dominant position within the ticketing market, which has led to inflated prices for consumers. The court previously acknowledged that the allegations of monopolistic practices hold merit, with the plaintiffs specifically asserting that Ticketmaster commands approximately 60% of a particular submarket within the industry.

Judge signals he’ll let Ticketmaster customers proceed as class in Live Nation antitrust lawsuit

A federal judge in California signaled he’s likely to allow millions of Ticketmaster customers to proceed as a class in an antitrust lawsuit accusing Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary of using monopoly power to boost ticket prices.

US District Judge George Wu took the motion for class certification under submission on Thursday (December 4) following a hearing.

Plaintiffs led by Skot Heckman, a Ticketmaster customer, sued the ticketing giant in January 2022 for allegedly engaging in secondary ticketing market manipulation, anti-competitive practices and consumer harm.

In the 2022 lawsuit, which you can read here, Live Nation and Ticketmaster were accused of secretly providing primary tickets to brokers through “ticket banks,” while publicly claiming to fight scalpers.
