Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has a new name: polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).

Women's health experts say the new name is more scientifically accurate and reflects that PMOS doesn't just affect fertility; it can lead to a number of metabolic and mental health conditions throughout life.

Women's health experts and advocates with lived experience say the new name will mean fewer misdiagnosises and better treatment.

After 14 years of research and 22,000 survey responses, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has officially been renamed polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).

PMOS, a common hormonal and metabolic disorder affecting 170 million women worldwide, can lead to infertility, metabolic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, and mental health issues.

No link between PCOS and higher rate of abnormal cysts: study

A new study has found women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) do not have a higher rate of abnormal ovarian cysts than the general population.

PCOS is a common hormonal condition which affects about one in eight women but can take up to 12 years to diagnose.

Researchers say their findings support a global push to change the name of PCOS to one that more accurately reflects the condition's health impacts.

Despite what the name suggests, women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) do not have a higher rate of abnormal ovarian cysts than women without the condition.

Want to see you name spelled out in giant letters? Let NASA help

If you've always wanted to see your name spelled out in giant letters, NASA can help you with that.

NASA offers a free interactive tool that allows users to type their name into a search bar and see it spelled out in natural formations on Earth as viewed from outer space, courtesy of data from NASA's Landsat satellites.

"With each new launch, Landsat’s decades-long data record becomes even more valuable. As the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s surface, Landsat offers a unique resource to scientists studying long-term changes. Researchers have used Landsat’s archive to study how cities have grown, coastlines have shifted, crop cycles have changed, and forests have transformed since the 1970s," NASA's website says.

NASA’s New Tool Lets You Write Your Name Across Earth With Satellite Images

It's the type of cute little tool that makes us love NASA even more.

We’ve all heard of something written in the stars. NASA being NASA, found a way to do it with our planet.

For Earth Day, the agency released a delightfully nerdy tool that lets you type in any name or word and see it spelled out in real satellite images using rivers, islands, glaciers, deserts, and coastlines that just happen to look like letters from orbit.

It’s a small, charming trick. But behind it is something much bigger: more than 50 years of Landsat imagery, a planetary archive that has watched forests shrink, cities spread, ice retreat, and landscapes change in slow motion.

Strikers name squad for Perth clash as Shamsi joins BBL|15 campaign

The Adelaide Strikers have confirmed a 13-man squad for their January 4 showdown with the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium, featuring a major new addition.

South African wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has signed with the Strikers for the remainder of BBL|15 and will travel to Perth with the squad.

He joins as an overseas replacement player, with Luke Wood and Jamie Overton unavailable for finals after being named in England’s T20 World Cup squad.

    The 35-year-old left-armer brings a wealth of experience from 70 T20Is and 55 ODIs, including career-best figures of 5/24, and is South Africa’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

Strikers turn to Proteas spinner as England duo earn call-up

A double call-up to England’s World T20 Cup squad has thrown an unexpected spanner in the Adelaide Strikers’ potential finals plans

England allrounders Jamie Overton and Luke Wood will be unavailable for a possible Adelaide Strikers BBL|15 finals campaign after being named in England's T20 World Cup squad.

The pair were selected in the 16-man squad just prior to the new year, and have also been picked for England's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka which commences on January 22.

With preparations for both the upcoming Sri Lankan tour and T20 World Cup overlapping with the KFC BBL|15 finals campaign, which runs from January 20-25, it means the Strikers would be without two of their most seasoned white-ball veterans in the hunt for a prospective second BBL title.

High Court directs CSA to let Shamsi complete ILT20 season

The Gauteng High Court has ruled against Cricket South Africa (CSA) and in favour of Tabraiz Shamsi in a landmark judgment which will be pored over with interest around the global game for its potential implications for freelance cricketers.

Shamsi, the left-arm wristspinner who has played 127 international matches across formats, withdrew from his contract with MI Cape Town in the SA20 earlier this year in order to take up offers in other T20 leagues overseas, specifically the ILT20 in the UAE, and the Big Bash League in Australia.
