Netflix’s Best New Movie Grabs A 91% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score

Netflix has a new #1 movie in its top 10 list, a romantic comedy that seems to have pleased both critics and audiences alike, far from a sure thing in that genre.

The film is Voicemails for Isabelle, which I thought was going to be based on a book from 2010 or so when people still left voicemails, but that’s not the case. Rather, Voicemails for Isabelle is written and directed by Leah McKendrick as an entirely original production. With so many adaptations of romantic novels hitting the screens, this is certainly unusual. And apparently welcome.

Voicemails for Isabelle stars Not Okay’s Zoey Deutch and Love, Simon’s Nick Robinson (McKendrick, also an actress, has a role as well). Deutch’s Jill leaves voicemails for her dead sister as a way of coping with the loss, but when the number is reassigned, connects with Robinson’s Austin who begins receiving the messages instead. Romance follows, naturally.

'Oasis' Review: Netflix Resort Drama More 'Elite' Than 'White Lotus'

If I were to tell you the new Netflix series “Oasis” begins with a flash-forward to a shocking crime at a luxury resort, your eyes might glaze over faster than I could say “The White Lotus.” The obvious comparison isn’t wrong, per se; “Oasis” even includes frequent B-roll of waves crashing on the beach, the same visual device “White Lotus” creator Mike White uses to suggest the turmoil beneath the hotel’s glittering surface. But “Oasis” hails from Spain, the same country that supplied the streaming service with eight seasons of the deliciously trashy teen soap “Elite” before that series concluded in 2024. In truth, “Oasis” plays out more like the latter show than a prestigious, high-minded exploration of class dynamics and extreme wealth. The characters are thin and the plot often ludicrous, but the sight of beautiful people making bad decisions is soothing enough to override one’s critical faculties.

Thereâs a fine line between romantic comedy and creepy thriller, and while redefining the genreâs lovelorn leads as often incredibly oddball stalkers is nothing new (see the Sleepless in Seattle trailer recut as a horror movie 20 years ago), an online deluge of memes and thinkpieces have elevated post-movie bar jokes to commonly accepted theory. Some film-makers have slowly tried to catch up and capitalise â last yearâs dark comedy I Love You Forever showed how epic acts of romance can be rooted in manipulation while a great deal of what makes current box office record-breaker Obsession so effective is its horror movie perversion of the day-to-day realities of all-consuming true love.

After giving us a far more adventurous wardrobe during the Nouvelle Vague press tour, the actress took a decidedly minimalist route for this occasion, wearing a Valentino Pre-Fall 2026 gown in the house’s signature red.

There is something refreshing about the simplicity here. That said, I wasn’t entirely convinced by the fit through the bust. The neckline appears slightly strained, which isn’t a major issue, but it was the first thing I noticed.

Still, this felt like a great choice for a premiere. The bold Valentino red ensured the look had presence, while the pared-back styling kept the focus firmly on her.

Netflix has cancelled popular game show The Circle after seven seasons – but the show won’t be disappearing from screens.

The latest season of the reality series, in which contestants can catfish their way to a cash prize, arrived on the streaming service on October 2024, and viewers have been left wondering about the show’s fate due to the lengthy absence.

Popular Netflix TV Show Moves to Hulu After 7 Seasons

A popular Netflix TV show that ran for seven seasons has now moved to Hulu. According to reports, Hulu acquired the show after Netflix declined to renew the reality competition series following the conclusion of its seventh season in October 2024.

The Circle is the Netflix TV show making the move to Hulu. The move comes after a Walt Disney Television representative shared their plan to make a “concentrated” push into the serialized competition space in April.

The social experiment format was one of the streamer’s first hits in the reality competition space and even spawned versions in France and Brazil. It was originally premiered on Channel 4 in the UK, running for three seasons before a US version was launched by Netflix in 2020. Six additional seasons followed before Netflix ultimately chose not to renew the series.

A Netflix show + Survivor and Big Brother winners are back, but in new homes

Some fun news about moves around the reality TV ecosystem today: A Netflix show is coming back on Hulu, and two CBS winners are heading to an NBC reality TV show.

First up: Hulu has been trying to establish itself as a reality TV destination like Peacock (with its universe of Bravo shows) and Netflix (with its universe of trad wife dating series and competitions).

However, Hulu has only really broken out with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, besides its round two versions of other shows (The Kardashians and Vanderpump Villa). Hulu’s original competition Got to Get Out was super-fun, but has yet to be renewed.

Netflix's Devil May Cry has been greenlit for a third season, which will be the last season

If you enjoyed the recent second season of Devil May Cry on Netflix, we have some good news to share. The streaming giant has officially greenlit an additional season for the show, a third outing that will also be the final chapter of the wider story.

In a letter penned by showrunner Adi Shankar, it's mentioned this was always the plan, to deliver a "movie trilogy disguised as a television series." Shankar also notes that the three seasons will make up "The Force Edge Saga", and that it's ultimately a play on Dante's Divine Comedy, as the first season is being regarded as Inferno, the second as Purgatorio, and the third is being known as Paradiso.

Almost 35 years after Rachel Nickell was brutally murdered, her story is being shared on screen. The infamous 1992 tragedy which took place in broad daylight—with Nickell's infant son as the only witness—is at the center of a wave of TV retellings, including two Netflix projects. As announced in March 2025, Netflix adapted the crime story into the dramatized series The Witness, and are accompanying the series’ June 4 premiere with a documentary, The Murder of Rachel Nickell. (Prime Video will also be releasing a two-part docuseries on Nickell later this year, titled The Wimbledon Killer.)

If there's one thing we've learned from Australian survival thrillers, it's that it's never a good idea to venture out solo into the wilderness — and if you do, you definitely want to avoid asking the locals for directions.

A cat-and-mouse survival game plays out in the Netflix trailer above for Apex, which sees Charlize Theron being hunted through the mountains by an impressively creepy Taron Egerton.

From the looks of things we can expect beautiful scenery, rock climbing and kayak-based action sequences, and plenty of shots of Egerton grinning while wielding a crossbow.

The first Apex trailer does look thrilling, but Taron Egerton hunting a woman for sport is pure horror

The first trailer for Netflix's upcoming movie Apex arrived Wednesday, and it looks intense — a riff on the endlessly adapted short story The Most Dangerous Game, where a predatory, amoral person hunts human prey through the wilds for sport. Charlize Theron is the prey here, a thrill-seeker named Sasha who's heading for a challenging whitewater rafting site when a stranger (Taron Egerton, from the Kingsman movies) steals her gear, offers her a head start, and starts hunting her down.

"Hunting humans for sport" horror stories go way back, and this trailer echoes a few classics — in coding Egerton's character as a redneck who knows the forests and Sasha as an outsider who doesn't know the danger she's in, Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur (who helmed the Idris Elba creature-feature Beast) and screenwriter Jeremy Robbins (the Purge TV series) seem to be tapping into John Boorman's survival classic Deliverance. But the chase itself, across a raging river, down a waterfall, and through close-up physical confrontations where Sasha fights her opponent's physical strength, feel more like recent Predator movies, or the recent Predator-like alien-invasion movie War Machine, with a more human adversary.
