Liberal frontbencher Tim Wilson also called on the government to focus more on fraud and corruption issues in the NDIS, as the Coalition and Labor negotiate on changes to the disability scheme.

The government’s bill is being examined by a parliamentary committee, with a report due this coming Friday. Labor may seek to bring that bill back on for debate and vote in the second week of this coming parliamentary sitting.

Wilson accused the government of “an ongoing tolerance” to fraud in the system. The NDIS minister, Jenny McAllister, was on News24 this morning also, and we’ll get you some of her contributions shortly.

A verbal agreement has been struck between Australia's two major political parties to cut billions of dollars in funding to the disabled community.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with Opposition Leader Angus Taylor on Monday at Parliament House to discuss laws making significant changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

"I expect those changes will pass in this sitting fortnight, which will be important to make sure that it's sustainable going forward," the prime minister told a caucus meeting.

Labor rejects call for more NDIS oversight, nears Coalition deal

Labor has rejected calls to appoint an independent umpire to oversee a shake-up of the National Disability Insurance Scheme as it closes in on a deal with the Coalition to push through its cuts to the program without major amendments in the next fortnight.

Martin Laverty, one of the scheme’s architects who now runs a major disability provider, said on Monday the program needed a steward to keep the government in check in the same way an inspector-general monitors Australia’s aged care system.

Orioles Open To Moving Righty Bullpen Arm

The Orioles completed a seven-run comeback to take two of three from the Tigers on Wednesday. They’re off today and will play a three-game set against the Phillies this weekend as the lead-up to the deadline. Baltimore sits three games under .500 at 53-56 but find themselves in the muddled AL Wild Card picture. They’re 2.5 games back of the final playoff spot (currently held by Cleveland) with three teams to surpass.

President of baseball operations Mike Elias said in late June the O’s were hoping to play well enough to buy. They’ve gone 14-12 since Elias’ comments, rebounding from a four-game losing streak to close last month with a 14-8 showing in July. They haven’t made up any ground in the Wild Card picture since then, however, as the Red Sox vaulted past them for one of those spots with their 15-game win streak.

Three Trades That Make Too Much Sense for the Orioles

The Orioles are becoming the hottest team in MLB in the trade rumor department as a true seller, like we told you would be the case all along.

Once again, baseball operations failure Mike Elias tried to sell tickets by gaslighting you about his product and his intentions with it back in June, like he did throughout 2025 before selling en masse . You can’t get two names down The Athletic’s list of top 60 trade options and not find another prominent Oriole – their first-overall pick catcher, their first-overall pick “shortstop,” a kid selected fifth overall who can’t hit all just among the "young core," and the entire back-end of their bullpen and their Opening Day starter, too.

Fox puts for the lead … but the ball dribbles off to the right. Not so straight after all. He walks off with par, shaking his head. Par for Burns, who now has to birdie the last in the hope of forcing a play-off. Fox just needs par on 18 … or birdie for the Claret Jug! What an Open! This is going right down to the wire!

Ryan Fox is forced to whip his ball out of the bunker while standing on the fairway, leaning in. He catches plenty of the ball and advances it up the hole. Good core strength, sir. He then wedges to ten feet, and will have a straight uphill putt for birdie and the outright lead. In the meantime, Sam Burns, having pulled his second to the left, can’t wedge close and he’ll have to make to do with par. He wears the look of a man who knows his race is run.

British Open 2026 tee times, pairings, featured groups for Saturday's Round 3 at Royal Birkdale

British Open 2026 tee times, pairings, featured groups for Saturday's Round 3 at Royal Birkdale originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The second round of the British Open was quite chaotic as golfers fought to stick around for the weekend.

Lucas Herbert was the star of the day, shooting a 62 to skyrocket up the leaderboard and take a two-shot lead into Saturday. Herbert had a chance to shoot even lower, but he will certainly take the lead after 36 holes.

Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau appeared to end his round right behind Herbert, but he was assessed a two-stroke penalty for illegally improving his lie on a the fifth hole. That saga lasted a few hours, with DeChambeau pleading his case to rules officials, but the two-time U.S. Open champion is officially three-shots back at -5.

There's groans from the crowd, though, when Kim Si-woo rolls his putt just wide of the hole at the 17th and has to tap in for par.

Kim needs an eagle on the last – the toughest hole on the course.

His bid to become the first Asian winner of the Claret Jug looks to be over.

Sam Burns looks frustrated as his second shot goes left of the green.

Scheffler is knee deep in rough. It’s all he can do to hack out … and the ball flies off straight left, across the fairway and up a hillock on the other side. But Scottie’s not one to panic, and bumps his chip down into the front of the green, using the camber to bring his ball around to four feet. He’ll have a good chance to save his par.

Trouble for Scottie Scheffler as well. Having split the fairway at the par-five 17th, he carves his second towards a hillock on the right with very thick rough atop it. He’ll be praying for a get-out-of-jail lie.

Dodgers, Yankees open second half in potential postseason preview

NEW YORK – Even as Cody Bellinger savored one of the most memorable evenings of his career, having been named the Most Valuable Player of this year’s All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park, the Yankees slugger practically heard a clock ticking.

“Enjoy today, then it’s time to get ready for the Dodgers,” Bellinger said in Philadelphia.

No one on either side needs a reminder about what happened the last time the Dodgers and Yankees met in the Bronx. This will be their first time squaring off at Yankee Stadium since the final game of the 2024 World Series; the clubs met at Dodger Stadium last year, with Los Angeles winning two of three.

Where to watch Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers: TV channel, start time, streaming for July 17

It's the home stretch of the 2026 MLB season with teams jockeying for playoff position in hopes for lengthy postseason runs.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani continues his quest for an NL MVP three-peat, but sluggers Juan Soto and James Wood are also compiling impressive campaigns.

The Dodgers once again look like the team to beat in the National League, having already amassed a double-digit games lead in the NL West. Meanwhile, the American League features astonishing parity; just one-third of the league had a winning record coming out of the All-Star Break, and no team had a division lead greater than three games.

The European Swing comes to a climax this week as the DP World Tour arrives in Germany. Here are your five things to know about the BMW International Open.

After five counting events in as many countries, the European Swing – the fourth and penultimate of the five Global Swings – draws to a close in Germany. At the end of the event, the player who is top of the Swing standings will earn exemption into each of the Back 9 events from August onwards and a $US200,000 bonus. With victories in the Netherlands and then last week in Italy over back-to-back starts, Eugenio Chacarra has control at the top of the standings. With 3,500 Race to Dubai Ranking points on offer, 585 of those for the winner this week, Japan's Kota Kaneko is the only player who can deny the Spaniard the Swing title. But the task is a tough one for Kaneko, who needs to win to stand a chance.

2026 U.S. Open money: Here’s how much every player made at Shinnecock

Wyndham Clark's win earned him a big trophy — and a fat check.

After hitting pause on its steady uptick last year, the U.S. Open purse has upped the ante once again, offering its largest payout ever: $22.5 million, matching the Masters as the largest of the major championship purses.

This eye-watering sum has grown rapidly over the last several years. In 2021, the U.S. Open purse was set at $12.5 million. It increased significantly to $17.5 million in 2022, then jumped to $20 million in 2023 and $21.5 million in 2024, where it remained for last year’s edition.

How does this mega purse compare to the rest of the PGA Tour season? The eight PGA Tour Signature Event purses that take place ahead of the FedEx Cup playoffs offer purses of $20 million each. The Players Championship remains the richest purse in golf at a total of $25 million.

2026 U.S. Open prize money, purse: Payouts, breakdown for Wyndham Clark, field from record $22.5 million pool

There was plenty on the line at the 2026 U.S. Open on Sunday. Becoming a national champion is one of the most prestigious titles in golf, and winning a U.S. Open at a difficult course like Shinnecock Hills Golf Club only adds to that accomplishment. On top of the chance for players to etch their names in history at one of the country's most iconic courses, the winner of the 126th playing of the U.S. Open will take home an increased share of the record $22.5 million purse.

The $4.5 million going to Wyndham Clark for conquering the course is a $200,000 raise from what J.J. Spaun brought home from Oakmont last year. Overall, the USGA increased its pool by $1 million, with the remaining $800,000 divided among everyone else who made the cut.

Former champion Wyndham Clark has seen his four-shot overnight lead halved as the first round of the US Open concluded early on Friday morning at Shinnecock Hills.

Clark, the 2024 victor and one of four previous winners occupying the top four places heading into round two, parred his remaining two holes after returning at 6.35am local time to sign for a six-under-par 64.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau came to Shinnecock Hills with points to prove, and through the majority of the first round of the 126th U.S. Open, all three are doing exactly that.

Play was halted at 7:05 a.m. local time when fog swallowed the course, with a two-hour suspension before resuming at 9:05 a.m. Officials had already slowed green speeds and modified hole locations ahead of expected wind gusts approaching 40 mph, and the delay pushed the schedule back with the first round spilling into Friday morning.

Dustin Johnson melts down at US Open, goes from contention to cut line

For a moment at the 2026 U.S. Open, Dustin Johnson appeared set to contend at a major for the first time in years. Then, in a matter of five holes, his second round Friday, June 19, turned into a disaster.

After pulling to within one shot of U.S. Open leader Wyndham Clark with a birdie at No. 10, Johnson completely melted down and went from contention to possibly needing a late push to just make the cut for the weekend.

The sequence began with a double bogey on the par 3 11th in which he hit his tee shot into a bunker and watched the ensuing bunker shot trickle back into the sand thanks to the tricky greens at Shinnecock Hills. Back-to-back bogeys followed as Johnson's round began to unravel.
